Chapter 519: I Go to Menghe as Head of State

Gu Hang became busy, Fisher had no choice but to accept the treatment of accompanying Alliance officials on tours.

To be honest, he was still a little dissatisfied.

Mr. Gu held the highest position and was busy, so he couldn’t personally lead him on a tour. He could barely understand.

But even so, at least they should have arranged for a few higher-level figures to come, right?

For example, the Alliance Prime Minister, Ms. Ossena?

Or the rumored third-in-command, Chief Justice Lambert?

At the very least, someone like the Minister of Production should be sent.

But why did the person who came was Neil Laois?

In terms of status, Laois was not inferior.

She was the Chief of Government of the Dragon Eagle Star Region. According to the general political tradition of the Empire, she was the second-in-command of the Dragon Eagle Star Region government, second only to the Head of State, Gu Hang.

But… who doesn’t know that the Dragon Eagle Star Region government is now just a decoration?

After taking control of the star region, Mr. Gu seemed to have no intention of reusing the original structure of the star region government, and would continue to rule hundreds of worlds through the framework of the Alliance.

In this way, Laois, the nominal Minister of Government, was in reality little more than a stamp.

The Alliance government’s resolutions, policies, and personnel appointments had already been issued; they only came to her to complete the formalities.

Well, it was a bit of a formality, at least.

But as time went on, this formality was becoming less and less necessary.

In the past, people valued a formal appointment from the Star Region Government; now, more and more people believed that positions within the Alliance held more practical value.

There was nothing to be done.

Even outsiders like Fisher felt the same way.

Minister of Government? The second-in-command of the Star Region Government?

Just a mascot.

Having a mascot accompany him through actual business operations was what Fisher disliked.

He felt the Alliance didn’t value him enough.

Otherwise, why would they send a marginal figure to accompany him?

His unhappiness was clearly expressed on his face, and in his attitude towards Laois.

Laois had lived for centuries; how could she not sense his feelings?

However, she made no special statement.

Just as it had been before, it would remain the same. He continued to lead the Granya Shipbuilding Group’s men around Winged Star.

And the longer they toured, the quieter they grew.

The discontent that had threatened to overflow from Chairman Fisher’s face quietly subsided.

The reason was simple: the conditions on Winged Star and Angry Owl Star far exceeded their expectations.

When Fisher saw the magnificent Pegasus Palace, he wasn’t impressed.

They knew the Alliance was wealthy, the Dragon Eagle Star Region was developed, and the Pegasus Star Region was a prime area. On a world as important as Winged Star, the Pegasus Palace, now home to a key Alliance government agency, would maintain a harmonious harmony between humanity and nature, imbued with a sense of understated luxury. Wasn’t that perfectly natural?

While there was still a sense of shock, a bit of a naiveté, this shock felt somewhat predictable.

It was as it should be.

However, after leaving Pegasus Palace, they boarded a hovercraft and began to wander around Wing Star, visiting the starship factories scattered across its surface. They were struck by scenes they had never imagined.

The first thing that astonished them was the infrastructure.

Wing Star’s infrastructure was incredibly advanced!

Roads, cities, and a wealth of amenities for both residents and production.

Some engineers within the shipbuilding group, like an occupational ailment, began to wonder how much this vast and excellent infrastructure would benefit society as a whole.

The managers among them noticed the exceptionally high standard of living of the people of Wing Star, far superior to those of their own Grangar. On the one hand, they wondered how much this would cost the Alliance. On the other hand, they also wondered what the educational level, personal abilities, and personal qualities of the people of Wing Star would be like with such high living standards. And how would this high standard of living, in turn, benefit a highly skilled industry like shipbuilding?

With these thoughts in mind, they toured the numerous factories on Wing Star.

Whether it was the engineering or the changes in management, they witnessed it all, reflecting on it, some profound, some superficial.

Then, all of this followed them up into the sky, where they saw the massive Alliance shipyards, transforming into awe-inspiring material.

As shipbuilders themselves, they could naturally see the vast disparity between the two sides.

Grangar could produce one cruiser every four years, but with a four-year construction cycle, Wing Star could produce four cruiser-sized ships!

They were also taken to see the highly classified shipyard for the Holy Grail-class battlecruisers.

Construction was already underway on two ships, one of which was nearing completion!

Fisher’s body trembled at the sight of the massive, sleek Holy Grail-class vessels!

The Alliance had promised to bring Moon-class construction technology to Grangar, helping them to upgrade their existing shipbuilding system and build a new cruiser shipyard.

This was already a significant investment and assistance.

But he still remembered Gu Hang’s words, saying that if “conditions were ripe,” a shipyard for the construction of the Grail-class cruiser could be arranged in Granya.

Fisher had been excited at the time, but his excitement wasn’t as strong as it was now, now that he had actually seen the real thing.

He and his engineers gazed at the nearly completed Grail-class battlecruiser, their eyes blazing with anticipation, their anticipation instantly transforming into a vast and intense desire!

Their only thought was: they must somehow bring the construction of the Grail-class cruiser to Granya!

This was their only chance to reach new heights and break through the ceiling they hadn’t broken for decades, even centuries!

At this point, they no longer doubted whether their decision to abandon the region government and the rebels in the Menghe star field, and to fully align themselves with Gu Hang and the Alliance, had been the right one.

It had been the right choice!

They were eager to invest their entire fortune in the various starship factories on Winged Planet and learn how they built ships. They also eagerly awaited the swift arrival of the Alliance’s promised investment, aid, and especially technology and personnel. With their return to Grangar, they would rapidly implement the necessary improvements throughout Grangar…

Consequently, Fisher would no longer be scornful of Laois.

Although Laois wasn’t a core member of the Alliance, he was their most accessible, perhaps even their only, contactable figure who could establish a connection with the Alliance.

Laois wasn’t in a hurry. She took Fisher and the others to inspect Wrathful Owl.

The situation there was no worse than Winged Planet’s shipyards!

More importantly, Wrathful Owl had been a ruin just over twenty years ago. Now, less than thirty years later, its shipbuilding industry had surpassed Winged Planet’s in development!

They were then led to Baishuo Planet to see a shipyard they could actually invest in and the Alliance technicians already waiting there.

The situation on Baishuo was less striking. The planet’s shipbuilding industry was even weaker than Grangar’s.

However, this also allowed them to better understand how the Alliance, having taken over Baishuo, a place with even weaker shipbuilding infrastructure than their own, had transformed it, and the extent of the resulting improvements.

After this inspection, Fisher and his team gained greater confidence in the future transformation and investment in Grangar.

With their survey of Baishuo complete, their journey to the Dragon Eagle Star Region concluded.

On their return journey, the Alliance technical team responsible for the transformation and upgrades on Baishuo would accompany them directly to Grangar in the Menghe Star Region to fulfill Gu Hang’s promise.

Meanwhile, someone else also joined them on their journey:

Ms. Neil Laois, who had been accompanying them on their tours and acting as their “tour guide.”

At first, Fisher thought Laois was merely there to see them off.

But then, something began to seem off. “

Aren’t you taking them too far?”

And why had he been constantly asking about Grangar and the situation in the Menghe Star Region?

Although there had been some initial friction, given that everyone had become relatively friendly during the latter half of the Dragon Eagle Journey, Fisher didn’t mince words and posed the question directly to Laois:

“What are you going there for?”

Laois smiled and said, “I’m going to the Menghe Star Region to serve as its head of state.”

Fisher was stunned.

…

The fact that Neil Laois had been appointed head of state in the Menghe Star Region was undoubtedly due to Gu Shang’s encouragement. Given

the current situation in the Menghe Star Region, he clearly needed someone of his own to serve as its administrative chief and, for the greater good of the Empire, to maintain control of the entire region.

This would facilitate his efforts to cleanse the 80% of the region he controlled, eliminating any remaining opposition or pro-Iron forces, ensuring that the human and material resources on these planets were truly utilized for his own benefit.

Meanwhile, with the Alliance’s forces engaged in a large-scale standoff with the Princess’s rebels in the northern part of the Menghe Sector, the Alliance continuously deployed troop reserves and supplies along the confrontation line, transforming these previously insignificant planets into fortified strongholds.

These matters required a strong, reliable, and self-reliant government to handle them.

Unfortunately, during the previous sweeping operation, with the assistance of High Inquisitor Martini, the Menghe Sector’s original governmental structure had been nearly destroyed.

Rebuilding it was urgently needed.

However, the selection process was complex, as the person taking over the position of Sector Head was a complex one. Gu Hang couldn’t choose solely based on ability and loyalty. For example, he couldn’t place Ossena in that position.

On the one hand, Alliance headquarters desperately needed Ossena and couldn’t do without the Prime Minister. On the other hand, while Gu Hang had no doubts about Ossena’s ability and loyalty, her career had been primarily within the Alliance. Unlike Yan Fangxu, who commanded military commanders and also held the title of General of the Astra Militarum, she wasn’t a general in the Astra Militarum. On the Imperial side, Ossena’s record was merely as a Planetary Governor—acting Governor of Facherus II—a position that wouldn’t have allowed her to be directly promoted to the position of Sector Head.

On the other hand, Laois didn’t have that problem.

She had sufficient experience, having already risen to the position of Chief of Administration in the Dragonhawk Sector. A further promotion to Sector Head seemed perfectly acceptable.

She also had connections within the Cosmic Government, and during the previous confrontation with the Fury, she had sided with the right side.

All these factors combined made her promotion to the position of Head of Menghe seem inevitable.

She was also incredibly motivated. She

had thought her political career was over.

Unexpectedly, the longed-for position of Head of State had been realized in this way. She excitedly took up   her

new post, accompanied by a team of Alliance officials.   Gu Hang simply issued instructions and left these matters alone.   As the supreme leader of the Alliance, now a formidable force, his workload was naturally intense.   His busyness wasn’t about the sheer number of matters he had to handle.   With the Alliance’s size and the structure it had built, anything could continue to function without Gu Hang.   But that didn’t mean the Alliance didn’t need him.   On the contrary, Gu Hang could handle everything. Of   course, he couldn’t do that. He had to identify the issues most in need of his attention and address them appropriately within the Alliance’s vast swath of affairs. He   had to continuously optimize and reform the Alliance’s system, provide guidance on the development of key regions, and monitor and direct the battles on the front lines…   As the helmsman, he needed to control the Alliance’s direction.   He wasn’t just guiding the way; he also had to ensure the Alliance stayed on track.   He was certainly very busy.   Furthermore, Gu Hang had a major matter to attend to.   After returning to the Tianma Sector for just a few days, after meeting with a few necessary contacts, he set off for Yunluo.   Along the way, he met with numerous regional leaders and Alliance governors, inspecting their work.   But that was all incidental.   This also included his inspection of the Yunluo economic center after arriving in the Yunluo Star Region.   He didn’t stay in Yunluo for many days before setting off again, heading for his final destination: Jindi Star in the Steel Fire Dragon Star Region.   He wanted to personally visit the Mingyang Sect and meet the main sages,   especially Sage Wu Jiarong.   (End of this chapter)
