Final remarks

I’ve finished the book

, and after a couple of days of rest, I’m back to chat with you all.

Honestly, I didn’t expect this book to be this long.

The original idea for this book, as I mentioned in my launch note, was that I enjoy Total War, Hearts of Iron, Stellaris, and Warhammer 40,000; I enjoy the military confrontations of World War I and World War II; and I have a bit of experience with farming novels. So, I blended all of these things together, and this book came into being.

In that sense, I wrote this book quite capriciously, a product of my personal interests.

Thankfully, it turned out okay, at least better than I initially expected. I thought no one would read it.

If you call it a Warhammer fanfiction, I’ve deliberately toned down a lot of the original setting to avoid fanfiction. Unlike the most popular Warhammer fanfiction, which focuses on the most compelling stories between the Primarchs, I’m not fanfiction.

But if you call it non-fanfiction, the overall flavor, structure, and, crucially, the Space Marines and the Imperium of Man settings, I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration, which has attracted readers who don’t read fanfiction.

It’s a bit of a mixed bag.

I’m quite satisfied with the current success (around 5,000 subscriptions).

Precisely because the book stemmed from a personal interest, I didn’t initially plan to write so much. The original plan was to finish the Ironclad Wars, with Gu Hang becoming a powerful local figure with his own warband, a small empire, and then the Cataclysm, leaving the imperial center powerless. But

when the time came, I thought I’d be pissed off if I ended it that way, and since there wasn’t a complete lack of material after the Cataclysm, I reworked the outline and continued.

On second thought, though, this wasn’t necessarily the best choice, because as I wrote, it felt off. The book’s structure was already complete, and while I thought I’d come up with a lot of new ideas later on, there wasn’t much freshness, and writing was a bit of a struggle.

The Alliance grew in size, and the Expedition expanded. The seemingly grand Star Sea Expedition felt empty. Every battle felt like a rehash of the Ironclad Wars…

I considered switching perspectives and focusing more on micro-level people and events, but that pace felt too slow. Returning to the main plotline, however, felt too grandiose, more like a war report or a government work report.

It felt awkward.

But at this point, the book needed to be completed.

Even a poor ending was better than an aborted or unfinished one.

Besides, this ending isn’t bad at all; it essentially fulfilled all the previous ideas. The Empire was unified after the catastrophe, Gu Hang’s alliance merged with the Empire, and he was crowned co-emperor.

Looking back, I’m quite satisfied with the overall result.

At 3.46 million words, it depicts Gu Hang’s journey from a powerless planetary governor to conquering the vast universe and ultimately leading the human empire to its revival!

The entire book at least fulfilled my original creative vision.

More importantly, I hope it meets everyone’s expectations, too.

That’s all for the story of the planets. Now, let’s talk about my future plans.

I’ve been updating continuously for two and a half years. I’ve had occasional leave, and sometimes people have accused me of being too short, but I’ve persevered and maintained a daily update. My work isn’t exactly easy. I boast all the time that I’m considered a key member of the company, and I often work overtime and travel. Luckily, I usually get a nap in the afternoon, so I can be more spontaneous and stay up late at night to finish the updates.

But doing this for too long has completely messed up my biological clock. My physicals used to be fine, but over the past two years, with my age, combined with staying up late and sitting for long periods of time without exercise, all my indicators have been distorted.

My blood lipids and serum uric acid levels are high, I’ve developed fatty liver, a liver cyst, and kidney stones…

They’re probably not serious issues, but now that I’m freed from the need to update, I need to take some time to properly recuperate.

At the very least, I’ll adjust my sleep schedule and strive to get seven or eight hours of sleep every night! I’ll

spend more time with my family, play those games I missed, and finish the novels I’ve been saving.

All in all, I’m generally planning a break of three to six months.

But rest assured, I won’t be playing around. During this break, my main priority will be preparing for the new book.

I’ll be writing the setting, the outline, and thinking of several openings and storylines, striving to make it even more complete than what I’ve prepared for this book!

Speaking of the new book, I have some vague ideas I’d like to share.

First, it’ll be a farming story. I have some experience writing about this type of farming, so I’m not planning to abandon my strengths.

But it won’t be about farming like a power or a regime, but more like managing an organization, an institution.

Maybe an academy? A knightly order? A mercenary group? A church?… I haven’t decided on the specifics yet, but from this, I can roughly tell that the new book’s world setting will be fantasy.

There will be elements of Dungeon & Dragons, Warcraft, Warhammer, Harry Potter, Victorian steampunk, and medieval religion… But honestly, fantasy writing is all about these things. 😀 There will be

military and war elements, but the main theme will probably be about the upgrading of individual power.

I’ve written a lot about the setting, but it’s more conceptual, and a lot of things are still being decided and sourced. But judging by the current prototype of the setting, it’s already quite complex and feels very interesting, and I’m quite confident.

Combining all of the above, the label for the entire work can probably be: a novel about farming, managing, and organizing power in a fantasy setting, with the unique setting of individual strength upgrades and power systems as its selling points, combined with a complex worldview!

After writing “Planet”, I summarized many of the things I was satisfied with, and also learned a lot of lessons from the things I was not satisfied with. I hope, and I have confidence, that the next book will be better than this one!

So, everyone, see you in the next book!
