Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 1026
Chapter 1017, The Evil God’s Key
Gu Hang had already figured out the key he’d snatched from the Disaster Fleet.
“It involves a terrifying ‘weapon,’ as I’d describe it.”
“It’s hard for me to say exactly what this weapon is or how it would work. But I’m certain that if it were in our enemy’s hands, the Empire would face catastrophic destruction. This isn’t just alarmist talk; it’s a reality.”
“And more than that. This weapon holds profound significance for a Chaos God.”
“That’s the Evil God known as the ‘Creator,’ named Bassol. He’s the inventor, engineer, scientist, and craftsman. Perhaps the beings of the real universe, striving to understand and enslave nature at all costs, ultimately exploiting it endlessly through technology… this might be the source of his power. Countless wars, the endless arms race, gave birth to him. It was these desires that fueled his growth, transforming him into the embodiment of ambition to wage war using technology and machinery.”
Gu Hang briefly introduced the Evil God Bassol.
Leon was a bit unfamiliar with his name, but he didn’t ask, patiently listening.
“That ‘weapon’ is locked away in an unreachable dimension. Only by obtaining the ‘key’ can it be found. And this so-called key, you may be familiar with, as at least two were once held by the First Legion—the Angels of Death.” As
soon as he heard this, Leon knew what Gu Hang was referring to.
A geocentric device located on Knight Star, the homeworld of the Angels of Death.
Many thoughts raced through his mind, but Leon remained expressionless and silent.
He didn’t need to ask.
After becoming Primarch, Martins faced a Scourge Fleet in his first battle, snatching a fragment of the key from them.
This fragment had been in Gu Hang’s possession for some time. Despite various events that had delayed his attention, he had always maintained a keen interest in studying it, inviting many Mechanicus sages to participate, including the Archsage of Mars, Cawl.
After decades of research, Gu Hang had a deep understanding of the fragment and everything it represented.
Through Warp Divination, he even glimpsed the moment of the Knight Star’s explosion.
According to historical records, that was the battle in which the Lionheart disappeared, a civil war among the Angels of Death.
The Earth’s core device on Knight Star shattered into countless pieces in the explosion, and the fragments were scattered across the universe;
the largest piece was found in the Death Angels’ lair, the Stone Monastery.
The so-called Stone Monastery was actually the largest piece of planetary debris left after the Knight Star’s explosion. The Death Angels captured it, hollowed it out, and transformed it into their “home planet,” a space fortress. They also installed various planetary engines, allowing it to move through space, even navigate the Warp, and warp through astral tunnels.
“Basthol has been searching for the key fragments for many years. The Disaster Fleets that keep appearing throughout the universe and bringing severe disasters to the Empire are the product of his cooperation with the Chaos Warmaster, Alchadon.”
“A piece of the key fragment fell into my hands. I have to say that Basthol does possess the most extraordinary technical capabilities even in the entire warp, and can turn the impossible into reality. I really can’t figure out how to reassemble and reforge this key fragment. But Basthol can, and we can’t let him get all the fragments.”
“Unfortunately, when we discovered this problem, it was too late. Although our expeditionary force has paid great attention to blocking Chaos’ Disaster Fleets in various parts of the universe, and we have also figured out how to find other fragments based on the key fragments we already have. However, our progress is still far behind Basthol.”
“What’s worse is that we may need to collect all the fragments, and then go through a long period of research before we may be able to – just may be able to – reforge the key. However, Bassol should not need to do that. As long as he gets the largest and most indispensable pieces, he will be able to complete the rest and complete the reforging. This means that even if some scraps or small fragments fall into our hands, we will not be able to stop him.”
“He only has the last indispensable fragment left to get. I believe you know which one it is.”
“The Angels of Death have always been active in the southern border of the empire, fighting fiercely with all kinds of enemies of mankind. They have more abundant means and technologies than ordinary chapters. To a certain extent, they can even communicate with many sub-groups across star fields in the environment of the Cataclysm, and even cooperate in combat.”
“After the establishment of the new empire, the Imperial Center also contacted the Angels of Death. The leader of the chapter, the Supreme Grand Master – Organgelon, recognized the regent and the new prime minister, and also recognized the political reforms on Holy Terra. The Angels of Death even accepted a group of new recruits from the Primaris Space Marines trained by the Imperial Center.”
Having said this, Gu Hang did not expand on the story.
There’s actually some preliminary information here, but Leon already knew it all.
While he was learning about the history of his slumber and the current state of the Empire, a considerable amount of his attention was naturally focused on his genetic offspring.
While we’re not going into the history, the current state of the Death Angels is worth discussing.
They’re arguably one of the most successful forces in the Empire, aside from the Alliance and the Infinite Sector.
At the time of the Cataclysm, the Death Angels, piloting the Monolith Monastery through space, were roughly located at the southwestern tip of the Empire’s southern border, belonging to the Dark Side of the Empire. After discovering the dramatic environmental changes and losing contact with the Imperial Center, the Death Angels immediately began suppressing the Empire’s territory. When necessary, they utilize their unique technology to contact their own descendants and call them into action.
To date, the Death Angels and their descendants control over over four star regions, encompassing one-third of the worlds of the Absolute Night Realm, located west of the Empire’s southern border.
If the Angels of Death and their successors had focused on managing their territory and expanding it, and hadn’t been as unlucky as the Blood Angels and encountered powerful enemies, their controlled area would likely have been even larger than it is now.
But unfortunately, they are unwilling to do so.
