Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 1021
Chapter 1012: Coexisting with Eternity
Utilizing the three major methods of talent enlightenment in the [Hero] interface, functional building exchange in the [Building] interface, and troop training in the [Training] interface, Gu Hang must devote considerable attention each month to transforming the billions of Grace Points earned through war and territorial gains into tangible political, economic, and military strength for the Alliance. He
presides over the Storm God Kingdom, maintaining the Thunder Torch Tower and using it to suppress the Alliance and the entire New Empire, normalizing interstellar travel and communication, and mitigating the influence of Chaos corruption.
As Prime Minister of the New Empire and leader of the Alliance, he handles broad and strategic government decisions. And
he manages the expenditure of Grace Points in the system interface.
These are Gu Hang’s three main tasks. It ‘s
truly routine, so routine that he can’t let go of any of them, and they now occupy the vast majority of his time.
His free time, the time he can manage, is shrinking, to almost nothing.
Gu Hang certainly doesn’t relish this situation. Although he was a bit of a workaholic, he was so obsessed with it that he found it quite enjoyable to work all the time.
But it wasn’t too painful.
On the one hand, he was used to it, numb to it. Inertia pushed him to keep doing it, and he could endure it.
On the other hand, there was a contrast.
Although both were imprisoned, his was clearly not as severe as the Emperor’s.
At least, Gu Hang could roam freely in the real universe, as long as he was willing to pay the price. The Emperor, on the other hand, couldn’t return to the mortal realm.
Even without the price to pay, Gu Hang at least enjoyed considerable freedom on Angry Owl Star. The veil of reality was thinner here, and since it was the birthplace of the Storm Kingdom, Gu Hang’s stay on Angry Owl Star was basically the same as staying in the Storm Kingdom.
On this world, he could at least still live a somewhat normal life. His wife, Ye Lishia, had largely stepped down from all frontline combat command. She remained a key member of the Dark Side Expedition’s military committee, but she primarily handled administrative duties.
While still busy, it was much better than Gu Hang’s.
At least, they could still enjoy a married life, unlike in the early years, when they were separated for long periods.
Although Gu Hang’s free time was limited, even a little bit of it was a significant improvement in his state of mind.
Life continued like this, watching the Empire’s territory being reclaimed bit by bit through the Dark Side Crusade and the Indomitus Crusade. The citizens of the Empire, throughout the universe, were not completely out of danger, but at least they were generally living better during the Cataclysm, even better than during the Old Empire. Humanity as a whole had survived a major crisis and had the opportunity to rise again…
all of these things were within sight.
While there might still be a long way to go, and a long time to go, there were no obstacles in sight, and Gu Hang had a long enough life to witness that moment unfold.
Then, he could finally say that he had lived up to his mission in this universe.
Of course, obstacles were not entirely absent.
The greatest dangers came from the four evil gods and the Warp itself.
The Warp has brought psychic energy, faster-than-light travel, and the ability to instantly communicate across star regions and even cosmic realms. Technologies based on the Warp’s exploitation are the core of a cosmic empire.
However, the Warp, a fickle and turbulent sea known as the Ocean of Souls, is constantly shifting and surging. The risks it presents are inherent, a “natural disaster” that humanity cannot fully avoid by any means currently employed.
And those four evil gods born from the Warp… Sadly, as Gu Hang grows stronger, he realizes that they are eternal and immortal.
The four evil gods represent aspects of the will of all living beings and souls in this universe. Unless the entire universe annihilates and the Warp, the ocean of souls, collapses, the four gods remain indestructible.
Their immortality, however, does not mean they are invincible.
On the contrary, the Alliance has defeated them numerous times in the past.
And not just the Alliance; throughout the Imperium’s ten-thousand-year history, they have triumphed numerous times.
While the gods’ immortality allows them to rebound countless times, a single defeat for the Human Empire is a traumatic one. A major loss, such as the previous Battle of Terra, could spell total ruin.
But at least until now, humanity has persevered.
Gu Hang believes it will continue to persevere in the future.
Furthermore, will the Warp always be this dangerous?
It’s not certain.
Gu Hang believes the Warp surges intensify in cycles, albeit with exceedingly long durations. According to numerous historical records, at least ten thousand years ago, when the Imperium was first established, the Warp was not as dangerous as it is today.
The outbreak of the Imperial Civil War was a major upheaval; but since then, the surge of the Warp has only grown more ferocious and dangerous.
After ten thousand years of growing strength, the Warp surge reached its peak with the fall of Cadia and the emergence of the Scarlet Scar.
According to Eldar history, this wave of Warp strengthening occurred before the founding of the Human Empire and with the fall of the Eldar Empire, marked by the birth of Slaanesh.
But before that, during the Eldar Empire’s heyday, including humanity’s so-called “Golden Age,” the Warp was far less dangerous than it is today.
Gu Hang sensed that as the Scarlet Scar gradually healed, this wave of Warp turmoil would gradually subside.
Perhaps the Warp will never return to its former tranquility; in who knows how many decades, another catastrophe, as strong as the Scarlet Scar, or even greater, could strike…
But the Imperium has already weathered two such waves, and Gu Hang will lead humanity through the crises of the future.
Humanity is learning, and will continue to learn, how to coexist with the perilous Warp and the cruel Four Gods. Just as Gu Hang was contemplating the future of his entire race, a message, delivered to his desk with the highest priority, was from the Dark Side Expedition—the Angel Expeditionary Force. They suspected they had discovered traces of a Son of God.
Gu Hang immediately paid close attention to the matter and requested to be reported on the latest news. (End of this chapter)
