Chapter 998: There’s no need to be so close

Seeing the Alliance’s Yulin Army, Yan Xinzhen was truly shocked!

Although the armor style and color scheme were slightly different, the postures of these warriors were all too familiar to him!

How should he face these so-called “Yulin Army”? How did Gu Hang do it? What was his mood? What should he say?…

Countless questions swirled in his mind.

But the unfolding situation didn’t give him any chance to react.

Gu Jing, protected by forty Yulin Army soldiers, charged straight towards the Rotten Throne!

After the massive sacrifices, the number of Nurgle demons and plague walkers on the battlefield had been greatly reduced, sparsely scattered, and unable to pose any resistance.

And between the position Gu Jing chose to launch his attack and the Rotten Throne, there was no Great Demon anywhere!

This was the opportunity he had seized: the space created by Qi Bodu’s sacrifice of low-level demon legions to strengthen the Great Unclean Ones!

The forty Yulin Army soldiers advanced with unstoppable force!

Although Yan Xinzhen had other enemies to contend with, he couldn’t help but be drawn to the familiar figures of the forty.

He discovered that these—the Yulin Army, let’s call them that—performed even more flawlessly in terms of combat performance, regardless of other aspects.

The weakest of these forty men had reached the level of a standard-bearer within the Imperial Guards; a little over ten had reached the level of a company commander; and the best three or four were well within the rank of tribunes.

A Yulin Army of this caliber was already incredibly formidable, and even Yan Xinzhen would have struggled to assemble such a force within his own Imperial Guards. He would have to withdraw one-third of the tribunes from each company, and one-tenth of the company commanders from the entire Imperial Guards… While

this might not seem like a large number, remember that every tribune and company commander had their own responsibilities. While withdrawing them would be simple, it would limit the functions of a significant portion of the Imperial Guards.

The forces he had brought with him to participate in this decisive battle were no match for the suddenly teleported Yu Lin army!

It was only natural that they could penetrate the Nurgle army’s defenses, thinned by the sacrifices.

Would this be enough to deliver Gu Jing to the behemoth atop the rotting throne?

Sure.

But would they be enough to slay the abominable monstrosity transformed from the former Imperial Chancellor?

It seemed unlikely.

Even though Zibodu had previously been less personally involved in the battle, his bulk, vaster than that of a typical Great Unclean One, and the wielding of unholy power around him, made it clear he was a formidable opponent.

More crucially, Zibodu was not only powerful, but also possessed the hallmark of all Nurgle daemons: difficulty in killing.

They might not possess the cunning tactics of Tzeentch daemons, the cunning and deceptive tactics of Slaanesh daemons, or the ferocious offensive power of Khorne daemons… but Nurgle daemons shared one defining characteristic: their exceptionally tenacious vitality!

These Great Unclean Ones exemplify this to a remarkable degree. Their vitality is incredibly tenacious. Otherwise, the battle would have ended long ago—winner or loser.

Qi Bodu, the Demon Prince, is even more powerful, having received even greater blessings from the evil gods, making him even more difficult to slay.

Killing him requires more than a simple assault or decapitation.

Furthermore, if they’re not killed instantly, they’ll quickly recover, prolonging the battle.

The forty Yu Lin soldiers are certainly formidable, but Qi Bodu’s understanding of their strength suggests they lack the power to take out a Demon Prince in a single assault.

Gu Jing, of course, is a formidable psychic.

Unfortunately, even with the combat power of a Son of God, he lacks the power to instantly kill a Nurgle Demon Prince. Even

a serious injury wouldn’t be enough.

If Qi Bodu isn’t swiftly slain, the unholy energy of Nurgle within him will rapidly heal his wounds. Furthermore, the surrounding Great Unclean Ones will quickly rush back to defend themselves, rescuing the Demon Prince who sustains them.

By then, Gu Jing and the forty Yulin soldiers he summoned would most likely die under the siege.

Even if others wanted to rescue them, it would be difficult.

But Yan Xinzhen didn’t believe Gu Jing was seeking death.

He believed Gu Jing must have a backup plan.

He was anticipating something.

Not just victory in this battle, but also a way to verify something.

Some of what he wanted to verify were things he’d thought about himself, and some were things Robert had told him.

But whatever it was, he had to see it with his own eyes.

And his expectations were not in vain.

Qi Bodu felt threatened.

But he wasn’t afraid.

He believed these humans were reckless. In their rush for success and victory, they had targeted an entity they couldn’t handle.

And he would teach them a profound lesson.

Especially since Qi Bodu recognized the figure protected by those strange, silver-white armored warriors.

The face, so remarkably similar to the one he hated, filled him with excitement.

Although he couldn’t kill Gu Hang, killing his son would be a profound relief.

With a simple wave of his hand, a giant plague scythe appeared from thin air. The three Yulin soldiers closest to the attack had already reacted and tried to dodge, but the scythe was too large, sweeping across too wide an area. They could only attempt to block, but the result was their weapons being sent flying, and their armor and bodies being carried into the air.

After landing, a deep scar remained on their armor—the fact that it hadn’t been directly severed by the scythe was a testament to the exceptional strength of the Yulin soldiers’ finely crafted power armor.

But alas, it couldn’t save its owner’s life.

The fallen Imperial Guard soldier was already silent.

But it was too late. Gu Jing calculated that his current position was sufficient.

As Qi Bodu’s scythe swung a second time, heading directly for him, Gu Jing suddenly stretched out his arms.

A corner of the warp in the other direction ripped open, and a figure appeared in front of him.

Qi Bodu thought he was dazzled.

What was he seeing?

He was actually seeing Gu Hang!

That was too…

“There’s no need to get so close,” Gu Hang chuckled, and a myriad of thunder and lightning erupted before him.

The massive sickle disintegrated, and then the expression on Qi Bodu’s portly, only vaguely recognizable face froze.

But before his expression could change, his massive, seemingly invincible body was electrocuted into a puff of gray smoke.
