Starting from the Planetary Governor - Chapter 1004
Chapter 995, Charge towards corruption!
Gu Hang swallowed all his complaints.
Fine.
Old Deng still gets things done.
If someone comes to his lair to cause trouble, he’ll go back and cause trouble.
All tactics are exchanged, right?
However, looking at it now, it’s hard to say whether this exchange is… okay or not.
In comparison, Nurgle’s Garden seems to have been burned quite clean, and the Imperial capital, Holy Terra, although also severely damaged, looks like it can still be saved – as long as the war can be won.
And what is the guarantee of winning the war?
Gu Hang just thought about it and rolled his eyes speechlessly.
If it’s not himself who can make this guarantee, who else can it be?
However, he hesitated at this thought.
Speaking of who is more profitable in the exchange, just looking at it compared to Nurgle, it should be more profitable at the moment.
However, humanity’s enemies are not limited to Nurgle.
Excluding Tzeentch, who has already been declared out, there are still two remaining.
Even though Slaanesh’s investment in Holy Terra seemed modest, its impact less pronounced than the other three, there was still a brutal tyrant.
His throne of brass remained untouched.
But Gu Hang soon gave up on the lingering thought.
The current situation was already excellent, and he could now proceed with even bolder moves. Even if he angered the tyrant, he would only have to deal with one other person—Nurgle wouldn’t have the time to bother him anyway.
Furthermore, Gu Hang had a vague sense that some great beings, despite being eliminated, still felt a sense of reluctance. Although he hadn’t gained much, the game was still fun, especially seeing his mortal enemy—Nurgle—suffer a far greater loss than himself.
He didn’t mind at all. Adding fuel to the already raging chaos, only to intensify it, was exactly what he loved.
Nurgle would suffer more losses later.
And Old Deng might have other tricks up his sleeve.
There was no need to hesitate!
Of course, he wouldn’t actually tear open the veil between the Warp and reality and fight in person.
That would be too costly, and would leave him vulnerable at a crucial moment, leading to serious problems.
And it wasn’t necessary.
In the real universe, nothing could be resolved without Gu Hang’s real body.
Just like the final act of the Battle of Comoros, all he needed was a way to destroy his avatar.
The only problem was that Gu Hang had already prepared for this in Comoros. He had already prepared the psychic crown used to destroy his avatar, ready to be used at the critical moment, summoning his avatar and ending the battle.
But now, Gu Hang hadn’t made any such preparations.
However, he had another plan:
his own son.
…
After receiving his father’s news, Gu Jing immediately communicated with Robert.
Weeks ago, he had accompanied Robert from the heavens to the ground, arriving at the Terra Imperial Palace. When the coalition forces advanced outward from the inner ring of the Imperial Palace, launching the all-out decisive battle, he joined the main force.
After being assaulted by the Knights of the Bronze Bull, he was also caught up in the chaos unleashed by these terrifying Knights of Khorne.
He also knew that the Alliance still had a small but incredibly elite force ready to launch a flanking attack.
According to the original plan, the two armies were to converge at the Cauldron of Corruption, attacking from both sides and jointly slaying the ascended demon, Qibodu.
But it looked as if the main force engaged head-on would have difficulty reaching their target as planned.
Gu Jing was already anxious,
and now, finally receiving news from his father, his heart was lifted!
He demanded that Robert immediately organize a force to escort him directly to the Cauldron of Corruption.
He fully understood the current chaotic situation on the battlefield. The arrival of the Knights of the Bronze Bull had significantly impacted communication between the human forces. Moreover, most of the troops were caught up in fierce fighting, facing either Nurgle’s daemon forces or Khorne’s Chaos forces. It was difficult for them to receive news, and even if they did, it wouldn’t be easy to evacuate.
But understanding was understanding, and the mission was the mission.
He hoped that Robert could spare as many men as he could right now.
It was meaningless to engage in a brutal melee with the troops of Nurgle and Khorne here. The victory or failure of the battle here would have little impact on the overall situation.
Gu Jing did not put all his hopes on others.
He had already contacted the three nearest Alliance army regiments, all of which were armored regiments. He used his own psychic power to rescue them and also gathered them around him.
He gave the troops thirty minutes to prepare.
When the time was up, no matter whether Robert had found enough forces for him or not, he could not wait any longer.
And Robert was still very reliable.
At the 27th minute, a troop that looked quite embarrassed and covered in blood came out of the ruins not far away.
Their number was not large, but their quality was still quite high.
The Infinity Legion’s main force, along with Space Marines from various branch regiments, totaled over three hundred. Over a hundred Custodians, plus a mortal force totaling approximately three thousand, provided a relatively ample supply of armor, including tanks and Titans.
More importantly, there was Robert himself, and a slightly smaller, golden-armored Custodian beside him—Marshal Yan Xinzhen himself.
Seeing these two, Gu Jing finally felt relieved.
“I’ve completely handed over the battle here to Nero,” Robert said. “Marshal Yan Xinzhen and I will go with you.”
Yan Xinzhen also spoke up, “You said that Gu Hang’s power would aid us in this process? Once we get closer, we’ll have a way to kill that damned traitor? I hope you’re not lying.”
“Of course I’m not lying.” Gu Jing let a rare smile break through his face.
He trusted his father.
Even putting aside Gu Hang’s power, the combined strength of Robert, Yan Xinzhen, and himself alone, a combined force of three, would already be a strong chance of reaching the vicinity of Qi Bodu’s corrupted throne.
Without further ado, seizing the final two minutes, Gu Jing briefly explained the assault plan to the two men and immediately ordered the entire army to attack!
Navigating the chaotic battlefield was certainly not easy.
Despite their vast numbers, across a battlefield nearly a thousand kilometers wide and over seven hundred kilometers deep, the Nurgle army was incredibly dense, forming one dense defensive line after another. However, as the Knights of the Brazen Bull surged through the countless Warp fissures leading to Khorne’s Realm, these Nurgle forces also fell within Khorne’s range.
Just as the human forces were disorganized and scattered across the vast battlefield, engaging the Chaos forces at every turn, many of the Nurgle forces’ defenses were also riddled with holes.
Despite this, however, penetrating them proved difficult.
The enemy’s density was immense. Even with the chaotic situation, a wave of Nurgle zombies could soon appear before their eyes—a veritable tide, often numbering tens of thousands!
Relying solely on the forces at hand, it was possible to defeat these hordes, but time was inevitably lost.
Detours were equally time-consuming.
Fortunately, Robert had contacted more than just the forces he had brought with him.
Several artillery regiments were able to provide assistance from a distance, following orders.
Beyond this artillery, there was a more direct and powerful source of support: bombardments from orbit!
As the main battle began, the Allied fleet had already arrived above the battlefield.
The bombardment of Qibodu’s location had never ceased. Countless heavy macro-cannons and missiles rained down on the Cauldron of Corruption.
Aside from the Extermination Territory weapons, which were clearly unusable on Holy Terra, all other heavy artillery, such as L- and X-type, was deployed without restraint, rumbling down upon the Cauldron of Corruption.
Killing Qibodu through orbital bombardment would, of course, be the ultimate goal.
Even if it meant completely destroying that entire hive city and causing significant damage to Holy Terra’s future ecosystem and climate, it was worth the effort.
Unfortunately, the bombardment of the Cauldron of Corruption was remarkably ineffective. The various macro-cannons and missiles that descended seemed to sink into the sea, leaving no trace of their impact. From orbit, the area was constantly shrouded in a yellow-green cloud, making it impossible to discern what was happening below, not even the faintest glint of an explosion.
Furthermore, it was virtually certain that the bombardment had had no effect.
Because the counterattack fire from the Cauldron of Corruption into orbit never slowed down, the Allied ships that stubbornly attempted to bomb the Cauldron of Corruption paid a heavy price. Even a top-tier Retribution-class battleship was destroyed by the counterattack.
But the ineffectiveness of the bombardment against the Cauldron of Corruption didn’t mean it wouldn’t be effective elsewhere.
While the numerous orbital gun fortresses on the ground and Nurgle’s skyward plague cannons hadn’t been successfully dealt with, orbital bombardment remained a crucial aid to the army’s advance.
As long as the bombardment zone was slightly further away from the Cauldron of Corruption, while a significant amount of the fire would be intercepted, it could still be effective. While the ships carrying out the bombing mission from above faced some risk, it was generally manageable.
Without this orbital bombardment, the Terran army’s initial all-out assault would have been unlikely to have been able to execute such a successful and effective assault.
However, the situation changed dramatically after Khorne’s Knights of the Bull entered the battlefield. The battlefield became a chaotic mess, with enemy and allies intertwined and entangled, making bombing difficult.
But the navy wasn’t idle either.
Occasionally, they would receive coordinates from their army brethren, with cries of “fire at me!”
Often, with tears in their eyes, they could only fulfil their army brethren’s wishes and pound their heavy artillery into the synchronized army coordinates.
While this would claim many of their own lives, it often resulted in even more demons being buried with them.
Now, when a more important combat mission arose, at Robert’s request, the Allied naval fleet dedicated a fleet consisting of aircraft carriers and battleships to receive Robert’s orders and provide orbital fire support.
This torrential bombardment greatly aided the assault force.
However, while ordinary artillery fire was effective against the zombie hordes and some fortified defensive positions, it was less effective against Khorne’s Bull Knights.
These Bull Knights moved at a remarkable speed on the ground. By the time bombing coordinates were received and preparations were made, their positions had often already changed significantly.
Furthermore, from tens of thousands of kilometers away, it always took time for artillery shells and missiles to land. More
often than not, the Bronze Bull Knights charged directly into the human formation.
Blessed by the Bronze Throne, the long-range firepower that feared them was incapable of inflicting significant damage. Weapons fired at close range, imbued with the combatant’s fervor and courage, proved most effective.
When faced with such an enemy, there was often no other option but to confront them head-on.
Robert, Yan Xinzhen, and Gu Jing would hold back absolutely nothing at this point. When faced with particularly strong resistance, they were often the first to charge.
It was at times like these that the power of individuals came into full play.
The Space Marines and elite Custodians who followed behind them, even ordinary mortal soldiers and armored tanks, were tasked with following the path their leaders had forged, advancing continuously, destroying the defeated enemy, finishing off the enemy, and ensuring the clearing of the marching route.
Fighting their way forward, they advanced.
After four hours of continuous advance, the area shrouded in thick yellow-green clouds finally came into sight.
Now, within the clouds, they could see countless massive figures engaged in a fierce battle.
It was the Great Unclean Ones and the Titans fighting each other!
Robert held high the flaming Emperor’s Sword and shouted, “Charge! Charge! Charge against corruption! For the Emperor!”
No matter how exhausted the warriors were, none of them refused to retreat. Without exception, they all shouted slogans and followed the Regent, marching forward without hesitation!
“For the Emperor!”
