Chapter 991, Landing on Terra

The Coalition’s support for the ground began long before they secured orbital control.

In the first week after Gallardo’s death, when orbital control was still relatively slow, several landing craft launched from Coalition aircraft carriers and headed for the surface.

The Coalition fleet escorted them, but some reckless or undetected traitors intercepted them through ship interception, orbital defense fire, and ground-based orbital artillery fire.

Approximately 30% of the landing craft failed to make it to land,

meaning over 30,000 soldiers died during the landing .

To be honest, those 70,000 soldiers who landed on Terra certainly didn’t offer much in the way of defense for the Terran Palace.

However small the Inner Ring might be, and however limited Marshal Yan Xinzhen’s forces might be, they still numbered in the millions.

Seventy thousand men would only provide a small amount of rotational space for the Palace Guards, who remained fighting on the front lines.

While the practical significance might be minimal, the symbolic significance was immense. It’s

true that the Imperial Guards are elite, well-trained and highly motivated, able to persevere in desperate circumstances, especially with the Custodians at their side.

But generally speaking, no human army can maintain its morale. Even with a resolute determination to face death, they can still waver when faced with profound despair.

With nowhere to escape, they face a desperate battle. Even if they surrender, rationally speaking, facing off against Nurgle zombies or a force primarily composed of Khorne berserkers, there’s no place to turn.

But in moments of despair, reason often breaks down.

Furthermore, this despair isn’t merely psychological; it also involves supernatural elements.

Nurgle’s core, the polar opposite of Tzeentch, lies in immutability, decay, and despair… and these qualities, carried by the yellow-green wind, blew into the inner circle of the Imperial Palace on Terra. And Khorne’s mental plague, capable of driving people to madness and insanity, should not be underestimated.

Even though the inner circle of the Imperial Palace had numerous protective measures to minimize and prevent the impact, even a small amount of damage, combined with the current situation on the battlefield, would create a problem.

They would commit suicide, unconsciously collapse and lose their organization, surrender to Nurgle, launch suicidal attacks against Khorne, and easily die in battle…

Of course, it must be said that such situations were extremely rare among the elite Imperial Palace Guards. Even if they did occur, they were only isolated cases.

But these cases tended to increase in such a situation.

In fact, the defenders could still hold out for a long time. However, these problems continued to spread amidst desperation, always a hidden danger, and it was clear that they would become a major problem in the future.

However, the arrival of reinforcements greatly helped alleviate this problem.

To be frank, it was a psychological issue.

No matter how much the Custodians promoted it, reinforcements would definitely arrive, and the Children of God were already on their way to support the ground. Every Palace Guard believed this.

However, no matter how much they believed it, it was not as reassuring as seeing it happen in person.

The seventy thousand men who descended from orbit had this effect.

The reinforcements were real, and they were already arriving.

The hope this reality brought served as a welcome counterbalance to despair and significantly mitigated the pervasive erosion of Chaos’s spiritual corruption.

And the reinforcements were definitely not a fleeting presence.

These 70,000 troops were merely the first wave.

The next wave arrived three days later,

bringing the total to 210,000.

The probability of landing ships being intercepted also dropped from 30% at the beginning to 20%.

The third wave of landing troops already numbered 500,000.

These waves combined were enough to significantly alter the situation in the Inner Rim.

A month after Gallardo’s defeat, when Holy Terra’s outer orbit was completely under control, a large-scale landing operation began.

The enemy was not completely without anti-orbital capabilities. They had seized control of some surface-based anti-orbital artillery fortresses—the density of these on Holy Terra was quite high.

However, the freed-up Allied Navy, having absorbed a significant portion of the Solar Fleet, became even more powerful.

The entire Allied fleet, deployed in the outer orbit, launched a fierce suppression attack on the surface. When those orbital artillery fortresses came under attack, a significant portion of their elves were deployed to intercept shells and missiles, as well as to attack warships in the outer orbit.

After all, one cannot afford to remain silent. Otherwise, if the Allied warships continued bombarding like this, no matter how formidable the Orbital Gun Fortress’s defenses, they would eventually be shattered.

This reduced their threat to landing craft.

Of course, some Chaos cannons, accompanying the Chaos forces besieging Terra, also possessed anti-orbital and anti-landing craft capabilities when deployed.

But the Imperial Palace played a significant role in this regard.

The Inner Palace’s firepower was also formidable, and could be divided into two parts.

One section targeted exposed enemy heavy artillery positions. Surface-to-surface missiles and large-caliber indirect fire artillery fired from these positions posed a significant threat to the enemy’s heavy firepower.

After all, these Chaos flanks were unprotected by heavy walls.

Meanwhile, the other section contained rapid-fire interceptor cannons, which could also be used to intercept enemy interceptor missiles.

In short, under the protection of the navy and the Terra Imperial Palace, the Allied forces’ massive landing operation was a success.

Over ten million ground troops arrived on the ground and assembled at the Inner Palace.

Among them, the main ones are the expeditionary soldiers brought by Robert from the Infinite Star Domain. These soldiers from the Infinite Star Domain are all carefully selected, and they are veterans who have gone through a long warp expedition and experienced the bloody battle of Comoros.

Moreover, the content of Space Marines is also very high. In this wave of airborne landing, more than 15,000 Space Marines landed, and almost all of them are Robert’s genetic descendants.

And Robert, the father of genes, is among them!

In the inner circle of the palace, the Son of God had an epic meeting with the Marshal of the Imperial Guard.

Just at the first glance, Marshal Yan Xinzhen confirmed that this was indeed the Son of God and could not be faked.

His last bit of worry retreated, and he willingly handed over the strategic command of the entire inner circle of the palace.
