Release that Witch - Chapter 35
[Chapter 35]
Nightingale walks in the “fog”.
From here, the world is only black and white.
The lines that originally constituted things are no longer clear, and the boundaries between straight lines, broken lines, and curves have become blurred, just like graffiti drawn by children.
It was an indescribable feeling. It took Nightingale a long time to become familiar with how to distinguish boundaries. As long as she used them properly, she would be able to walk freely in the mist without being bound by anything.
The walls that seem to be connected together, just change the angle slightly, and you can see the entrance that absolutely does not exist in the real world.
In the fog, up and down, front and back are no longer fixed concepts, they will change each other, and even overlap.
For example, what she is doing now, stepping into the castle from under the watchful eyes of the guards, following the unpredictable lines, step by step up out of thin air, through the ceiling, to Anna’s room.
For her, this is a completely free world.
Nightingale would really relax only when she was in the “fog”. Although it was silent and lonely, she liked the feeling of not being threatened.
Most of the time, it’s black and white, but she can see other colors occasionally.
For example, Anna in front of me.
Witches are different from ordinary people, they are aggregates of magic.
Nightingale can see the flow and disappearance of this power, and it is the only color in the mist.
She had never seen such a full and intense color like Anna’s—a turquoise glow surged through her body, and the center was almost incandescent, making it almost impossible to look directly at.
This confuses Nightingale. Generally speaking, the color of magic power is very close to the performance of abilities. She has seen many witches with the ability to manipulate flames in the mutual aid association. Most of them are orange or dark red, like a ball of dancing fireballs. Neither size nor brilliance can compare to Anna.
If this is just incomprehensible, the other is incredible.
With such a huge amount of magical power gathering on her, why is she still alive?
In the entire Witch Aid Society, Nightingale couldn’t find anyone with such magical powers. Even adult witches paled in comparison.
If Anna becomes an adult…
No, she doesn’t have this chance anymore, Nightingale sighed, the stronger the magic power, the stronger the backlash.
She didn’t even dare to imagine how terrible torture Anna would face when the demon devoured her body.
The severe pain tearing from the inside out will not cause people to lose consciousness, until the moment when they give up resistance and accept death, they have to endure the uninterrupted pain repeatedly.
She walked out of the fog, put away her depressed thoughts for a while, and cheered up and said, “Good morning, Anna.”
Anna was used to the uninvited and sudden appearance of the other party. She nodded and did not answer, but continued to practice controlling the flame.
Nightingale rubbed her nose, walked to the girl’s bed and sat down.
She has seen this kind of practice many times. At the very beginning, Anna would accidentally set her clothes on fire. In the shed in the back garden, she prepared a bucket full of clothes for her to replace.
Later, she became so proficient at making flames dance at her fingertips that even Roland stopped urging her to practice. The wooden shed in the garden was dismantled and turned into a place to enjoy afternoon tea and bask in the sun.
Even so, Anna still practiced for one to two hours every day according to the prince’s previous instructions—just in her own room.
“I brought fish cakes, do you want to eat?” Nightingale took out a cloth bag from her arms, spread it out and handed it to the other party.
Anna sniffed and nodded.
“Go and wash your hands,” Nightingale said with a smile.
Fortunately, she didn’t hate herself, she just wasn’t good at talking.
Speaking of which, she clearly cared about Nana, but she also didn’t say much.
In fact, she rarely spoke except in front of Roland.
In contrast, Roland talked too much.
He always has endless reasons, even eating a meal has many rules – such as washing hands before eating, not eating too fast, not picking up what falls on the ground, etc… He can tell every one of them. A long story to come.
At first, she was very impatient, but the other party was the master of this place, the fourth prince of Graycastle, since he lived in his own, then he reluctantly listened to it.
Up to now, she has slowly gotten used to these rules.
For some reason, when she competed with Anna, Nana, Roland, Carter and others for the order in the handwashing line, she inexplicably felt a little bit of fun.
Anna reached into the bucket full of well water and rubbed it, then lit a fire to dry it, made a fish cake, sat back at the table, and gnawed it in small bites.
“Aren’t you really going back with me?” Nightingale asked without words, “There are many sisters there, and they will take good care of you.”
“Here, you can only move within the scope of the castle, don’t you feel bored?”
“Although there are not many supplies in the Impassable Mountain Range, everyone is a family, gathering together for the same purpose.”
“You are so powerful, they will welcome you very much.”
“This winter, I’m afraid you won’t be able to make it through…”
Speaking of the latter part, Nightingale’s voice lowered, perhaps it was too late, she thought, even if she returned to the camp, it would be almost impossible for her to survive adulthood with her current huge magic power.
All I could do was watch her die.
“Where did you live before joining the Witches’ Society?”
Nightingale was startled, she rarely asked herself questions, “I… used to live in a big city in the east, not far from the king.”
“Are you having a good time?”
happy?
No, it was a day that I didn’t want to think about. I lived under the fence and was despised and ridiculed by others.
When she found out that she had become a witch, she took care of her like a cat and dog, with chains tied around her neck, forcing herself to do things for them.
Nightingale shook her head and asked softly, “Why do you ask this?”
“I used to live in the old district,” Anna briefly recounted her experience, “my father sold me to the church for 25 gold dragons, and it was His Highness who brought me out of the cage. Here, I live happily Very happy.”
“But you can’t get out of this castle. Except for Roland Wimbledon, everyone else still hates witches.”
“I don’t care, and besides, he said he’d change that, didn’t he?”
“That’s difficult. As long as the church doesn’t fall, witches will always be evil.”
Anna didn’t refute, and the silence lasted for a long time. When Nightingale thought she would never speak again, she suddenly asked, “Are you happy in the mutual aid association, or here?”
“You…what are you talking about?” Nightingale was caught off guard by the question, “Damn, of course…”
Is it a mutual aid society?
To be honest, she is not very interested in finding the holy mountain, but there are friends she can’t give up there.
Is it Border Town?
She would never have come here if she hadn’t heard that a witch was in danger!
The answer should be obvious, but why didn’t I say it in the first place?
This time Anna smiled, Nightingale seldom saw her smile, those eyes seemed to reflect the morning sun on the surface of a lake, making people feel at ease—even though she was not in the “mist”.
“I heard from Roland that you are looking for the holy mountain in the northern mountains. If the holy mountain means stability and destination, I think I have found it.”
Here is her holy mountain, and Nightingale realizes that although her life is running out, her soul will reach the other shore earlier than most witches.
At this moment, the sound of running hurriedly came from outside the door. Nightingale listened carefully, but it sounded like Nana’s footsteps.
The door was pushed open, and it was indeed Nana Paine who rushed in.
She threw herself into Anna’s arms with a crying face, “What… what should I do? Sister Anna, my father found out that I am a witch!”
