Only at the Mahayana Stage Does the Reversal System Appear - Chapter 86
Chapter 86: Not Seeing the True Buddha
Sun Yuan lost his soul, and his body fell to the ground with a roar, like a meteorite hitting Kyushu, and the earth was shaking slightly.
Jiang Li threw the body to Yu Yin, leaving it to her to do with it, whether to refine it into a puppet or burn it to vent her anger, it didn’t matter.
Yu Yin looked at Jiang Li’s expressionless face, biting her cherry lips lightly, with a complicated expression.
She had worked so hard and risked her life to finally break through the Tribulation Crossing Stage, but Jiang Li could easily kill a peak Tribulation Crossing Stage cultivator without the slightest resistance.
Is the Mahayana Stage really that powerful?
Now that she has the national destiny and is holding an immortal weapon, how many moves can she exchange with Jiang Li? Maybe five moves, maybe eight moves? In short, Yu Yin didn’t imagine exchanging ten moves with Jiang Li.
Jiang Li glanced at Yu Yin, seeing that she was uneasy, but didn’t say much.
Unlike the Pure Heart Saint, he knew Yu Yin’s heart was pure and unwavering. She had only just experienced betrayal and failure, and had seen the gap between them and him, leaving her shaken and shaken. He gave her a few days to reflect and resolve this obstacle on her own.
Jiang Li sent Ji Kongkong back to Great Zhou. Seeing Jiang Li’s expression, Ji Zhi felt an inexplicable horror.
Since he became the Human Queen, Ji Zhi had never seen him look so gloomy and dark. He appeared calm, but anyone could sense the rage beneath.
Jiang Li simply set Ji Kongkong down and flew away without a word. Ji Zhi remained silent throughout the entire process.
Ji Zhi knew that the Nine Provinces were about to change.
…
The Buddhist sect was located in the far west of the Nine Provinces. The Dharma permeated every space, so much so that even the earth glowed with a faint light, especially at night.
Nearby the Buddhist world stood a kingdom called Leshan. While not as powerful as the Nine Dynasties, it was nonetheless immensely powerful. Perhaps due to its proximity to Buddhism, its people were poor yet content, often emaciated elders enjoying large families and the joy of family life.
Just ask anyone on the street and they’ll recite a passage from Buddhist scriptures or even give you a lecture, helping you grasp even the most basic concepts of reincarnation, cause and effect, the universe, and the Three Thousand Worlds.
Legend has it that beneath Leshan lies a giant golden swastika, its national treasure. Believing this legend, some dug deep but found nothing. Finally, unable to dig any deeper, they reached hard soil and gave up, declaring their excavation a failure. Leshan was like a vassal state of Buddhism, fervently
devoted to the Dharma. Every household had a Buddha statue. They firmly believed that good and evil were rewarded, that suffering in this life was a retribution for past lives, and that good deeds in this life would lead to a good end in the next.
Ordinary cultivators lacked a grasp of the true meaning of Buddhism, and thus could not understand the actions of the Kingdom of Leshan. Consequently, few cultivators ventured there. Even the merchant-like Tianji Tower shied away from the area.
The people here were selfless, and no one would come to the Tianji Tower to buy intelligence. As
Jiang Li journeyed through Leshan, gazing at the depth of Buddhism, he could see many others heading in the same direction as he was: Mount Xumi.
He walked, while the people of Leshan knelt.
With each step they took, they clasped their hands together and kowtowed to Mount Xumi. They stood up, took another step, and kowtowed again, repeating the cycle.
Every day, a distinguished monk gave lectures on the profound principles of Buddhism at Mount Xumi, open to all, with no barriers to entry.
However, few cultivators relished the opportunity to listen, finding it dull and difficult to understand. Even if they did, they wouldn’t advance their cultivation, so there was no point in wasting their time.
Jiang Li ascended the steps one by one, unencumbered by any magical power, intent on traversing the 100,000 steps of Mount Xumi.
The steps of Mount Xumi are unique. Using magical powers, one can ascend with ease. Without them, relying solely on the body, each step feels like carrying a mountain. This accumulation of steps creates a sense of accomplishment, and when one completes 100,000 steps, it’s like carrying 100,000 mountains!
Legend has it that this is a test left by the Buddha: if one completes 100,000 steps in their physical form, they will see the true Buddha! Some Buddhists have attempted this
, but none have reached 3,000 steps. Jiang Li once disbelieved this legend, but today he decided to give it a try. His revealing of his true form alarmed all the Buddhist monks, who fled their temples, unsure of what the current Human Emperor was up to and eager to see. One thousand, two thousand, three thousand… Jiang Li easily surpassed the three thousand barrier that had held countless others back. Each step was steady and light, offering no sign of the resistance Mount Xumi presented. Five thousand, ten thousand, fifteen thousand, twenty thousand… The monks exchanged glances, each witnessing the shock in their eyes. Twenty thousand steps proved no challenge to the current Human Emperor. The eminent monks, no longer maintaining their traditional trance-like postures, began to discuss what the current Human Emperor was up to. They were confused and wanted to seek the True Buddha’s guidance. The True Buddha had nothing to do with the ascended immortals. The True Buddha refers to the awakened being. Such individuals, in addition to awakening the six senses, have also awakened the seventh consciousness, manas, and the eighth consciousness, alaya. They are eternal, indestructible, and as inherent as a diamond, eternally manifesting their inherent pure nirvana, the True Suchness. It is precisely for this reason that most cultivators are reluctant to listen to the Dharma. It’s too difficult to understand. However, even those with limited understanding of the Buddhist system know that Buddhism has a present True Buddha and a future True Buddha. The present True Buddha is Sumeru Buddha. His 9,800-year lifespan makes him the oldest being in the Tribulation Crossing Period. His knowledge of space is unparalleled in the Nine Provinces, unrivaled. He has provided assistance many times in battles against the celestial demons. The future True Buddha is Wuzhi Buddha, whose wisdom is so profound that even Sumeru Buddha would be ashamed of himself. Thirty thousand, forty thousand, fifty thousand… The number of steps seemed meaningless to Jiang Li. His face expressionless, he climbed one step at a time. Eighty thousand! Ninety thousand! One hundred thousand! Jiang Li scaled Mount Sumeru with pure physical strength, accomplishing an unprecedented feat, yet he felt no joy. The legend was false; climbing a hundred thousand steps would not reveal the true Buddha. ”Furthermore, Subhuti! If a good man or woman upholds and recites this sutra, and if they are despised by others, the sins of their past lives would have caused them to fall into the lower realms . But because they are despised in this life, their past sins will be wiped out, and they will attain the Anuttara Samyaksambodhi…” The Sumeru Buddha was tall, with thick lips and drooping earlobes. His face was aged yet vibrant, his bones and flesh bulging like a knot, one of the thirty-two characteristics of a Buddha.
Barefoot and bare-armed, he sat on a golden lotus, his thumb and middle finger intertwined, as he lectured on the Dharma to his disciples.
The disciples listened with rapt attention, only to hear the old Buddha’s voice suddenly stop.
“Good, what is going on, Master Jiang? Why do you look as if you are about to cry?”
The disciples turned their heads in surprise, seeing the contemporary Human Emperor’s face in a state of confusion, as if he had seen someone he respected commit an unforgivable crime and felt compelled to kill him.
“Old Buddha, tell me, how did you become an immortal?”
Jiang Li’s voice trembled slightly. He had climbed to the top of Mount Xumi, but instead of seeing the true Buddha, he saw a man-eating immortal.
