Only at the Mahayana Stage Does the Reversal System Appear - Chapter 79
Chapter 79: Methods of Obtaining the Power of Merit
“Everyone here comes from all over Kyushu, and some are only eight years old. Whether it’s by chance or on purpose, it doesn’t matter. Since you’ve come to our Shenzang Sect, there’s only one way: join us.”
Master Feng omitted the last half of his words. If you don’t join, you’ll die.
Ten people sat in a room in the secret realm, listening to Master Feng explain the origins of the Shenzang Sect and the story of the Venerable Shenzang.
It was roughly the same information given by the Tianji Tower, but Master Feng didn’t mention killing people.
“You may still not believe the Shenzang story and think it’s a fairy tale. Let me demonstrate it to you.”
Master Feng slapped his chest, shattering his Nascent Soul, startling the eight people present. The Nascent Soul evolved from the Golden Core, and once shattered, it wouldn’t drop to the Golden Core stage, but directly to the Foundation Establishment stage!
Is it really necessary to be so cruel to spread a religion?
These people knew little about the Shenzang Sect, having been drawn in by the followers through repeated investigation and various insinuations. They had only heard that joining the Shenzang Sect granted a mysterious power, called the Shenzang Power, which could elevate realms, ward off inner demons, heal the body, and so on, with countless uses.
As for whether it was true, they had never witnessed it.
Jiang Li and Ji Kongkong remained expressionless.
A shattered Nascent Soul, a minor event.
The Shenzang Power Feng Zhen had spoken of surged forth from his body, repairing the shattered Nascent Soul. In a matter of breaths, it was restored to pristine condition.
These eight people had never seen anything like this before. Everyone knew that a shattered Nascent Soul could only be healed by spending all their money on a Huifeng Fanhuo Pill from the Dao Sect, but they had never seen it repaired by any force!
The Shenzang Power truly existed!
Most of them believed it, but some remained skeptical.
Feng Zhenren ignored it and began to recite the “Moka Passion Sutra” that the Sect Leader had received in a dream. The text was long, complex, and difficult to understand, recounting the life of the Venerable Shenzang.
Jiang Li thought of Zhang Konghu for no apparent reason. If that unrefined man were to listen to the scripture, he’d simply say, “What the hell is that?”
Jiang Li was far more learned than Zhang Konghu. To translate the scripture in Jiang Li’s own words, it read: “Shenzang Venerable was born in the immortal realm, divine by nature, omniscient and omnipotent. He is the only being in the world. He innately knows that the human body possesses infinite potential, containing hidden divine treasures. Anyone who can unlock these treasures is divine.”
In his eyes, immortals and mortals alike are ignorant, but mortals are even more ignorant. He chooses one agent from each of the countless human worlds to reveal the secrets of the divine treasures to these ignorant beings, hoping that a divine equal to him will emerge, relieve his boredom, and engage him in discussion.
Jiang Li’s assessment was, “That’s still too much of an understatement.” As a religious belief, if it doesn’t claim to have been born before the Heavenly Dao, witnessed the creation of the world, incarnated into countless incarnations, and spread across the world, with a single thought representing an epoch, standing unmoved on the upper reaches of time, untouched by countless causes and conditions, and able to change the course of events with a single finger, how can it truly qualify as a religious belief?
The “Moka Passion Sutra” resembles Buddhist and Confucian texts. Reciting it repeatedly can deepen the listener’s religious conviction, but of course, misuse can also lead to brainwashing.
Master Feng didn’t use the text to brainwash the audience; instead, he focused on its legitimate purpose: to strengthen faith. Those who believed in the Venerable Shenzang would become more convinced of his existence, while those who were skeptical would remain skeptical.
Then there were those like Jiang Li, who didn’t believe a single word. Even after hearing it, they remained unconvinced.
Jiang Li used his spiritual sense to observe Ji Kongkong and discovered that the Ruyi Gourd had directly triggered a silent tribulation on Ji Kongkong. Within the range of the silent tribulation, no sound could be heard, making Ji Kongkong unaffected by the “Moka Passion Sutra.”
The silent tribulation was originally a celestial tribulation used to punish those who cultivated powerful supernatural powers like “words become reality” and “a single thought becomes reality.” During the silent tribulation, speech and thoughts were rendered ineffective. Combined with the thunder tribulation, these individuals were left to receive the lightning strike.
Jiang Li hadn’t anticipated this potential use of the silent tribulation; it was truly eye-opening.
After the recitation, Master Feng led everyone into a magnificently decorated hall. Constructed entirely of bronze, the hue was dark, even the rows of lit red candles dimmed. The supporting bronze pillars were engraved with strange, ferocious creatures, none of which Jiang Li had ever seen. The objects within the hall were unusually large, including the main gate, which seemed too tall for human use.
At the far end of the hall stood a statue of an immortal, constructed from human bones. It towered over the ground, as if the objects within were meant for its own use. The statue
‘s features were androgynous, its gender unclear. Its eyes were lightly closed, its posture serene and peaceful, a compassionate expression that felt oddly out of place alongside the human bones. It
was a statue of the Venerable Shenzang.
Besides Master Feng, Jiang Li, and the other ten, there were also several members of the sect, as well as ten bound individuals struggling.
Jiang Li could tell that these members were all in the Spiritual Transformation stage, holding high status, likely to be there to oversee the initiation ceremony.
“Just now, the first ritual was to listen to the teachings. Now, the second ritual is to verify sincerity.”
Master Feng didn’t introduce the members of the sect standing nearby, but instead pointed to the ten people struggling on the ground.
“Each of you will kill one person. The result will determine whether you pass the second ritual.”
Cheng Ziqi, who had entered with Jiang Li, hesitated and asked, “Is it necessary to kill these innocent people? Isn’t it a bit too…”
He didn’t say the second half, “too demonic. “
The others nodded in agreement. They had never heard of killing people. What about the promise that the Divine Treasure Master would guide believers to tap into the power of the Divine Treasure?
Master Feng had anticipated this question and explained, “These are death row prisoners transported from the Tianyuan Dynasty’s prisons. They were destined to die. Now, we are simply making their deaths more meaningful.”
With Master Feng’s words, one of them stepped forward with a knife and decisively stabbed the man tied to the ground.
However, nothing happened.
“Does that mean we pass?” The man was clearly a frequent killer, his movements were quick and decisive, and he cared deeply about the consequences.
Master Feng asked, “Don’t you believe in the power of Venerable Shenzang?”
The man showed a false sincere expression and said, “Of course I believe it.”
Master Feng shook his head helplessly, and without giving the other party a chance to explain, he killed the man backhandedly: “If you don’t truly believe in Venerable Shenzang and don’t have faith in Venerable Shenzang, the power of Shenzang will not be born.”
After joining the religion, believers will learn a mantra that can hide the power of Shenzang. Now Master Feng no longer hides it, and shows the process of obtaining the power of Shenzang to everyone.
After Master Feng killed someone, a golden force of unknown origin suddenly appeared and enveloped him, making him look like a virtuous person of immeasurable merit, inviting people to bow down in worship.
“This is the power of the divine treasure.”
This power disappeared as quickly as it arrived, quickly entering Master Feng’s body and becoming undetectable.
Jiang Li’s expression froze; this was the first time he had witnessed the process of gaining the power of merit.
