Chapter 707 Returning Home

“This man is truly utterly miserable. I hope he finds a good place in the underworld after his reincarnation.”

A profound sadness enveloped the three of them. After witnessing Jiang Li’s life, they felt an indescribable sense of frustration and powerlessness.

Luo Ying sighed, “Just as 80% of the world has already been destroyed, the events of Blue Star, and the events of Mr. Jiang’s namesake, Jiang Li, are all things of the past. We are powerless to change them.”

“All we can do is record these events and report them truthfully to the Human Imperial Palace.”

“Will we also record this person’s affairs?” Luo Zhu asked.

Luo Ying shook his head. “No, the investigation report can’t record individual details. If we did, wouldn’t we have to record everyone’s past?”

Every time he recorded the destruction of a world, Luo Ying would be grateful that he had the fragments of the Immortal Ladder, allowing him to travel back in time, and that he had met Mr. Jiang, who could save the world and bring his planet back to life.

But there were so few who were as fortunate as he was.

“What a pity… Fellow Daoist Kongkong, please, as before, restore this world’s former civilization, engrave it on a jade pendant, and store it in the Coffin Hall of the Human Emperor Palace.”

The Coffin Hall is a newly opened area specifically for storing civilizations on the verge of extinction or already destroyed.

“Okay.”

…

“Have you always believed that energy is conserved?” In the Human Emperor Palace, Jiang Li looked at everyone with a look of surprise.

The surprise on everyone’s face was just as great as Jiang Li’s.

Energy conservation is normal, right?

Just as Jiang Li was about to say something, a Human Emperor Palace guard tiptoed up behind Jiang Li, spoke a few words, and handed him a stack of papers.

Jiang Li sighed, “Luo Ying, Luo Zhu, and Ji Kongkong have returned from a world called Zhoutian. The situation in Zhoutian is dire. Some planets are on the verge of destruction, while others have already been destroyed. All of this is the work of the High Envoy Duye.”

“This is the exploration report of Zhoutian.”

Jiang Li made several copies of the report and distributed them to everyone.

Everyone was leafing through the Zhoutian World Reports, silent. Jiang Li was no exception.

Suddenly, Jiang Li flipped to Report No. 12, his hand paused, his body stiffening.

“What’s wrong?” Commander Liu noticed that Jiang Li looked a little off.

“Nothing, I’m just feeling a little down and want to go out for a walk,” Jiang Li said, then stood up and left the Human Emperor Palace.

Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment. They had known Jiang Li for five hundred years, but had never seen him like this.

Bai Hongtu also stood up, wanting to see what was going on, but Yu Yin held him back: “Leave him alone for a while.”

…

Jiang Li teleported to Blue Star and walked silently.

He walked across the ruins of Blue Star, one foot deep, one foot shallow, measuring the land with his feet, recalling the past with his eyes, as if

it were a lifetime ago. Jiang Li tried to recall the past, but over two hundred years had passed. Time had flown by, and with the baptism of artillery fire, the scenes he remembered were no longer there.

“I once asked Hou Tu Niangniang where Blue Star was, but she said I needed to know which world it belonged to. It wasn’t until today that I learned that the world I was in was called the Zhou Tian World.”

Jiang Li arrived at the orphanage. The old director had long since passed away. Before the war, the orphanage had already replaced the new director.

The new director was Jiang Li’s former playmate.

“Gone, all gone,” Jiang Li said with an indescribable melancholy.

Jiang Li came to the foot of a large tree. As a child, he loved climbing up the tree to read. The old director would climb a ladder and chase him down with a feather duster, saying it was too dangerous.

The tree had long since withered, leaving only a half-shell.

Jiang Li stumbled upon a broken stone tablet on the ground. On it was the character “Li” (li), written.

“Return the wind and fire, and restore it.”

Jiang Li used Taoist magic to restore the tablet. The surrounding broken stones levitated in the air and gathered towards the stone with the word “Li”, forming a complete tablet.

Jiang Li’s hand trembled slightly as he cast his spell. This was the tombstone the old dean had erected for him.

He seemed to see the old dean weeping, his companions weeping.

Everyone was weeping, except for the now-dead him.

“Eh—”

Beneath the tombstone lay Jiang Li’s body, but Jiang Li had no intention of looking.

He straightened the tombstone and walked out of the orphanage without looking back.

Jiang Li returned to the university, where he had studied for ten years. He learned the purpose of law from his jurisprudence professor and furthered his understanding of the law under Professor Kong.

Jiang Li wanted to visit Professor Kong, but since his retirement, his office had been taken over by someone else and destroyed in the war, leaving nothing behind.

Jiang Li took out a pot of spiritual wine and poured it on the ground.

“Professor Kong, I’m back. I still practice what you taught me.”

“Goodbye, Professor Kong.”

Jiang Li arrived at his workplace, which had been spared the bombing and was best preserved.

He found Xiang Liang’s file here. Without him standing in front of Xiang Liang, Xiang Liang rose to a high position and was then thrown into prison.

What Xiang Liang had fought for all his life disappeared when he was imprisoned, like an illusory bubble that could not be caught.

He died of old age in prison, and no one cared.

As for the upper-class people who framed him, Jiang Li didn’t want to see them. He had no resentment, on the contrary, he felt sorry for those people.

Those people didn’t know the vastness of the world, and they didn’t even go out of the Blue Star. They guarded the small piece of land in front of them, scheming and calculating against each other.

What did they get?

Money and property cannot be brought into this world and cannot be taken away from this world. Society has not made any progress because of their existence.

“It is true that we come with nothing and leave with nothing.”

“When I die, I still have friends who will weep for me. What about you? Besides your family, who will shed true tears for you?”

Jiang Li traveled to many places. He cast spells, cleaned up the radiation, searched for survivors, spoke in the language of his past life, sought out historical landmarks, recalled the chapters he memorized in middle and high school…

“There’s no going back.”

Some of the survivors did speak the language of their past lives, but they knew nothing of the topics Jiang Li discussed. The Fengshan Ceremony at Mount Tai, Journey to the West, internet slang… nothing was on their minds.

The scenery praised by scholars, the empires for which the wise and sagacious emperors fought their entire lives, were gone.

Everything was in vain.

The Blue Star of Jiang Li’s memories could only be found in the jade pendant that Ji Kongkong had copied.

“Du Ye, you died too easily,” Jiang Li muttered.

He had indeed been framed and killed, but that was a personal vendetta, not implicated by Blue Star itself.

His past was tragic, but the beauty of Blue Star far outweighed the suffering he endured.

Blue Star was his home, and it shouldn’t have ended up like this.

“Come to think of it, how did I die?”

“Where did I go after the court’s verdict?”

Jiang Li stood dazed on the ruins. A cold wind blew past, and he suddenly realized that he had lost a piece of his memory.
