Chapter 704 A Familiar Name

“Look, there are survivors.” Luo Zhu pointed to a stronghold forty miles away, overjoyed.

The presence of survivors meant that the planet wasn’t completely destroyed, but rather on the brink of extinction. There was a high probability that it could be salvaged, and civilization could continue.

The settlement was a small city, unkempt and aesthetically pleasing, seemingly ramshackle, but each architectural style served a purpose.

The primary function of the settlement’s buildings was to house people and provide sturdiness, with comfort taking a back seat.

Everyone here was a soldier, with a specific division of labor. Some were tasked with searching for relics from the old world, others with farming to ensure food security, and still others with teaching to ensure the continuation of civilization…

When the three arrived, sirens blared. The residents of the settlement dropped their work and pointed their weapons at the three. Those outside heard the noise and rushed back.

“We mean no harm…” Luo Ying tried to explain, but the other party refused to listen and barked at them.

“Why are your radiation levels so high? You’re approaching us with such high levels of radiation, are you trying to kill us all?”

The three were stunned, surprised that the sirens weren’t blaring because of them, but because they were carrying radiation.

Luo Ying was the first to react, whispering, “It’s probably because a nuclear weapon or something like that exploded where we just went, releasing radiation. While we’re not afraid of radiation, it’s a deadly weapon for these survivors.”

Statistics show that many worlds have experienced the difficulty of managing radiation after nuclear war, so Dao Zong has dispatched personnel to conduct field research and research new spells.

The three silently chanted a mantra, quickly clearing the radiation, and the sirens quieted.

However, the survivors remained wary of the three. The appearance of three radioactive outsiders in this desolate wasteland, and the sirens’ cessation so quickly, was uncanny.

“Don’t come any closer! I’ll shoot you if you come any closer!” the survivor warned the three, holding up a two-hundred-year-old weapon.

Whether the weapon could even be fired was uncertain.

Luo Ying helplessly raised his hands and shouted, “We’re peddlers. We mean no harm. We’re here simply to sell our wares.”

“Outsiders, you’re not welcome here!”

The survivors remained in disbelief, their weapons drawn, ready to attack at any moment.

Whose peddlers were empty-handed?

Seeing their lack of cooperation, the three men, unwilling to engage in conflict, decided to search elsewhere for survivors. They

hadn’t found any survivors before because they’d been to the worst-affected areas of the war, where radiation levels were exceeding standards. How could anyone possibly be

there? The survivors all lived in clean zones.

Luo Ying updated his log: “Report #12 from Zhoutian World: Currently on Blue Star, survivors have been found.”

The three quickly found a new gathering place for survivors. Grabbing their backpacks, they disguised themselves as peddlers and inquired about past events.

Unfortunately, Blue Star was so fragmented that even the oldest people had only heard of the planet’s current state from older generations, leaving many details unclear.

The three men visited over a dozen gathering places, but the results were largely the same. History seemed so distant to them that they could no longer recall how the war began or ended.

“Memory is unreliable, we still need to find documentary materials.” Luo Ying’s point of view was recognized by his sister and Ji Kongkong.

They found dictionaries in six languages and learned the mainstream language of Blue Star.

“Most places have been destroyed by the war, and it is difficult to find information. We should go to the defense departments, combat command centers, or air-raid shelters of various countries to look for clues.”

After learning the language, the three finally understood the role of buildings.

Libraries, schools, hospitals, courts, governments, and landmark buildings in various places… It’s useless to know their functions, as they have all become ruins and have no value.

The three of them moved at high speed on the surface of Blue Star, searching for the truth of the past in various places.

After several days of hard work, collecting information from all sides, and with Ji Kongkong’s time method, the three of them completed the last piece of the puzzle under the air-raid shelter and understood the origin of the war.

“Over two hundred years ago, there were five most powerful nations on Blue Star, and their intentions dictated the direction of the world.”

“However, there were conflicts among these five nations, and their opinions often disagreed. Open and covert fighting was common.”

“At this time, a mysterious figure appeared, claiming to be from the Celestial Realm, and came to help Blue Star. This mysterious figure provided technical support to each nation, making their weapons increasingly powerful, so powerful that any one nation’s weapons were enough to cover half of Blue Star with firepower.”

“After verification by the Way of Time, the mysterious figure was confirmed to be the Supreme Envoy of Du Ye.”

“Equivalence is truth, and these five nations have mastered this truth.”

“Each nation wanted to surpass the others in national defense, and a global arms race began.”

“The Supreme Envoy of Du Ye left behind rich information for each nation. As long as they invested money and manpower, they could gain more knowledge from the information and use it to upgrade their weapons.”

“Each nation reduced their outer space research and turned to national defense research.”

“Eventually, each nation’s weapons reached their peak. A single nation’s arsenal was enough to reduce the entire Blue Star to a sea of fire and the surface to ruins, with a horror beyond all natural disasters.”

“The envoy Du Ye reappeared. He came to one of the countries and pressed the nuclear weapon button. Several nuclear bombs were launched at other countries, targeting either the national capital or the family of the national leader.”

“This became the fuse that ignited the powder keg.”

“A chain reaction began, and other countries also launched nuclear bombs in response. Suddenly, the whole world was engulfed in flames.”

“Each country built air-raid shelters to protect its people. Therefore, when the war started and the alarm sounded, most people hid in the air-raid shelters and survived.”

“But this was only the beginning of the war.”

“Once hatred was aroused, it was difficult to extinguish. This most brutal war in history lasted for a full ten years and emptied the arsenals of all countries.”

“Two hundred years ago, the war ended, and the civilization of Blue Star also ushered in its twilight.”

“Those who survived found it difficult to move forward. Radiation restricted their range of movement. They fought each other for resources and to survive in clean zones, exacerbating the already scarce number of survivors.”

“War destroyed both material resources and heritage. The three of us know more about Blue Star’s culture than the survivors.”

The events surrounding the High Envoy Duye were not recorded in any archives; his events were witnessed through his pupils.

The High Envoy’s appearance was not surprising to the three. Traces of him had been found in the first eleven worlds of the Zhoutian World.

They had seen the methods used by the High Envoy Duye in reports from other cultivators. Having

uncovered the truth, the three remained silent for a long time, a sense of powerlessness weighing on them, suffocating them.

“What do you think… is Blue Star’s civilization in a state of destruction, or on the brink of destruction?” Luo Ying’s voice was bitter.

Ji Kongkong was also in a low mood. “That’s not our responsibility. Our mission here is to record it truthfully and report it to the Human Emperor Palace.”

“Let’s go and explore other places. I’ll use the Way of Time to restore Blue Star civilization as best I can.”

Above the air-raid shelter was an orphanage. The orphanage director had a small booklet that recorded the histories of each orphan in the orphanage.

Luo Zhu stumbled upon a familiar name in the booklet.

Jiang Li.

He died two hundred and sixty years ago.
