Only at the Mahayana Stage Does the Reversal System Appear - Chapter 256
Chapter 256 Wuzhi’s Dream
The task of enlightening Commander Huang was too difficult. Jiang Li felt that he was just an ordinary Mahayana stage cultivator and could not do such a difficult task. It was better to let Commander Huang rely on himself and enlighten himself.
He called the guards who were patrolling nearby and asked them to be careful not to get close to Commander Huang or anyone else.
The sad Commander Huang was involuntarily emitting a gloomy atmosphere. Even a strong person in the Spiritualization stage would cry uncontrollably if they got close to him.
So the best way was to let Commander Huang be alone.
After hearing the order from the Palace Master, the guards thought for a moment and drew a circle of white line to surround Commander Huang. A sign was erected outside the circle.
Construction ahead, no entry.
The Human Emperor Celebration has begun to take shape. The hotels prepared for the major forces have been built and are waiting for them to move in.
The major forces came with their performance troupes. As the owner of this place, the Human Emperor Palace cannot let them rent a house by themselves.
Even before the Human Emperor Celebration began, traces of Jiang Li could be seen everywhere: masks in Jiang Li’s style, statues in Jiang Li’s style, amulets in Jiang Li’s style… all certified by the Human Emperor Hall, officially authentic.
“Do you have any amulets blessed by Jiang Renhuang?” a young monk asked a vendor.
Two Dharma protectors accompanied the young monk. Seeing this, they whispered to the young monk, their voices filled with respect: “Awakened Master, our Buddhist sect is the ancestor of blessing. Why are you coming here to ask for an amulet blessed by Jiang Renhuang? It would damage Buddhism’s reputation if it got out.”
“Because Jiang Renhuang is powerful,” Wuzhi replied with a clear and concise reasoning.
“There are no amulets blessed by Jiang Renhuang.”
“Is that so? Then give me a Human Emperor mask.”
“Five low-grade spirit stones.”
The two Dharma protectors glared at the vendor, startling him. “So expensive!”
Five low-grade spirit stones wasn’t much, but he couldn’t afford to be ripped off.
Wuzhi waved his hand, “For a special period and a special location, the price is normal. I’ll take it.”
With the Awakened One’s word, the Dragon-Subduing Arhat had no choice but to pay.
“Buddha Master Wuzhi?” Jiang Li stopped to greet an acquaintance while shopping.
Jiang Li and Li Nian’er each enjoyed a string of candied haws, with Jiang Li treating them.
“Human Emperor,” Wuzhi said, holding the Brahma Pagoda.
The Dragon-Subduing Arhat and the Unsubdued Arhat had long since used their Buddhist teachings to influence people’s perceptions, oblivious to Wuzhi’s identity and dismissing him as an ordinary monk.
Li Nian’er and Wuzhi were originally equals, one a Dharmakaya sect member, the other a Buddhist disciple. Who could have imagined that the old Buddha would pass away, and Wuzhi would inherit the position of Buddha Master, becoming one of the most respected figures in the Nine Provinces?
Recalling their past, Jiang Li had the Buddhist community announce the passing of the Sumeru Buddha.
“Will the Thousand-Armed Guanyin performance still be performed this year?” Li Nian’er had seen the 290th anniversary celebration of Jiang Li’s accession to the throne and was deeply impressed by the Buddhist Thousand-Armed Guanyin.
She had heard from her father that Buddhists always perform the Thousand-Armed Guanyin.
Wuzhi shook his head gently, “It’s changed this year. As for what’s changed, please wait until the day of the performance, Nian’er.”
He then turned to Jiang Li and said, “Wuzhi has something I’m confused about. Could you please ask the Human Emperor to move on?”
Jiang Li nodded. Wuzhi only took the Brahma Pagoda and asked the two Arhats to wait for a moment.
“Does the Human Emperor believe in reincarnation?”
“You mean reincarnation in the underworld? Of course I do. Why do you ask? Have you encountered any problems with this?”
“The Buddhist scriptures say that the underworld settles accounts between good and evil, and there are six paths of reincarnation. The virtuous enter the three good paths, and the wicked enter the three evil paths. Before reincarnation, one must cross the Forgotten River and drink Meng Po soup to wash away their past sins and be reborn as a brand new being.”
“That’s what they say.”
“But I’ve been having dreams lately, and the scenes I saw were very vague. There were drunken immortals wandering the Milky Way at night, and immortal trees blooming and bearing fruit in forests—scenes I’ve never seen before. I think these scenes could have happened in the immortal realm!”
Jiang Li frowned. “Are you suspecting these aren’t your memories, but memories from a past life?”
“Yes.” Wu Zhi nodded. His frequent dreams had shaken his Buddhist faith, and he began to ponder questions like, ‘Who am I?’ ‘Where did I come from?’ ‘Where am I going?’
Most importantly, he feared he would suddenly become someone from his past life, crowding out his memories of this one.
Judging from the dream, Wuzhi must have lived for tens of thousands of years in his previous life. If he were to awaken his past life memories, fifteen years of memories would pale
into insignificance compared to tens of thousands of years, like a drop of water merging into the vast ocean, vanishing completely, transforming him completely into the person he was in his previous life! In Jiang Li’s eyes, Wuzhi’s soul was incredibly powerful and scarred, as if struck by lightning and burned by fire. It was nothing like the soul of a child.
Jiang Li had never spoken to Wuzhi about this, fearing
he might harbor such concerns. Now, it seemed his fears had come true.
“Did you dream of a specific person? Can you confirm your past life identity?”
Wuzhi shook his head. “I can’t see clearly. The immortal in my dream was blurry, and I couldn’t even tell whether it was a man or a woman.”
“What are your thoughts?” Jiang Li asked the silent Brahma Tower.
“No, it’s just an unfamiliar memory. Wuzhi is still Wuzhi,” the Brahma Tower said lazily, not understanding what Jiang Li and Wuzhi were worried about.
It was smug, believing this was the superiority of the immortal’s mindset.
“Have you asked Immortal Changcun?”
“I don’t believe him.” Wuzhi had an inexplicable aversion to him. Jiang Li wondered if Wuzhi and Changcun had been rivals in their past lives. That
wasn’t right. Changcun was only an Earthly Immortal, but Wuzhi’s past life was definitely more than that; he must have been a Celestial Immortal.
“Then you told me all this…”
Wuzhi said bitterly. “If one day my personality changes drastically, please don’t be surprised, Human Emperor. If I do something against Heaven and Earth after this change, please don’t show mercy.” “
Are you asking me to force two previous Buddhas to nirvana?
” “You’re too pessimistic.” Wuzhi imagined only the worst-case scenario, and Jiang Li thought he was possessed by Commander Huang.
Jiang Li could understand Wuzhi’s feelings. He was only fifteen years old. While he could explain Buddhism with all the eloquence and wisdom of a great monk, facing the reality of the situation was a completely different matter.
If Sumi Buddha were faced with such a situation, he certainly wouldn’t be in Wuzhi’s state. He
still needed to grow.
Wuzhi’s mood improved after he shared his inner thoughts with Jiang Li. The two of them returned to the distant tower and discovered the Four Sea Dragon Kings were also there.
“Big Brother,” the Unsubdued Arhat greeted the East Sea Dragon King warmly.
Unsubdued Arhat was originally the Subduing Tiger Arhat, but because he was a True Dragon and disliked the title of Subduing Dragon Arhat, he arbitrarily changed his title.
Unsubdued Arhat had his reasons. We True Dragons have been honest and have been living off your family’s rice. Why should we be used by Buddhism as a stepping stone to the title of Arhat? Your title of Subduing Dragons and Tigers clearly contradicts the ideal of equality for all beings.
Sumi Buddha felt his point made sense and agreed.
Fortunately, the Heavenly Ladder to Immortality disappeared, preventing the Buddhas from descending. Otherwise, they would have pinned the Unsubdued Arhat to the ground and beaten him.
You can’t just change the name of the Subduing Tiger Arhat!
