Chapter 220: The Human Emperor Palace is not for the service of the Human Emperor (Happy Year of the Tiger) (Added here for book friend Mr. Liu)

“Lu Pin, what other requirements do you think are required to become the leader of the Human Emperor Palace, besides maintaining a neutral position?” Jiang Li asked calmly, his tone calm, like a conversation between friends, yet with the undeniable aura of a boss assessing his subordinate.

The sound from the stage, amplified by a magical device, was so loud that Jiang Li’s quiet voice was inaudible.

Qi Tongxin, however, felt that Jiang Li was the only one in the world, and that the performance on stage and the Emperor were merely a backdrop.

Lu Pin felt the same way, and even felt immense pressure from Jiang Li.

“You also need to be loyal to the Emperor,” Lu Pin answered stubbornly. “To prove my support for you, I’ve changed the original performance schedule and added extra performances. In particular, I’ve promoted the ideas you’ve raised.” “

So do you think the people like it?”

“One, generally.”

“Really? My spiritual sense tells me that after three performances, the audience has dropped by 30%. Can you guess why these people left?”

Lu Pin didn’t know how to answer this question. He could

n’t tell the truth, and he definitely couldn’t lie. He could only remain silent.

“Answer me!” Jiang Li’s voice suddenly rose an octave.

Lu Pin faltered, “They can’t appreciate these performances.”

“Who can appreciate them? The people who enjoy learning during the New Year? Your performance is all propaganda and education. Who do you expect to watch it? Even I can’t stand this kind of performance!”

“Art is aloof. It’s normal that most people can’t understand it,” Lu Pin insisted, refusing to admit his mistake.

“Really? You think ‘highbrow’ is a compliment?” Jiang Li scoffed. “No one likes it, and you say it’s art. Do you have a conscience when you say that?”

“Art is what the public enjoys.”

“And those craftsmen still working during the Lunar New Year? Let them finish before the Lunar New Year. Have you considered the practicalities? Who are they showing it to?”

“You…see.”

“What’s the point of showing it to me? Will it make you a leader?”

Lu Pin truly thought so.

When he learned he was a candidate for leader, he wanted to showcase his governance to Jiang Li, demonstrating his talent and worthy of the position.

So he ordered the craftsmen not to go home, and to finish the work before Jiang Li arrived. That way, when Emperor Jiang Ren inspected him, he would see the clean, tidy, and wide roads of Duochi Kingdom, leaving a good impression on Jiang Li.

But then he learned of the sudden completion of a highway within Duochi Kingdom. Hearing the craftsmen’s description of the kind-hearted cultivator’s methods, he knew it was something only someone at the Fusion Stage could achieve. His

intuition told him that the cultivator was none other than Emperor Jiang Ren.

He realized this showed that Emperor Jiang was displeased with him, otherwise he wouldn’t have helped the artisans.

He’d made a huge mistake!

So he’d waited for Jiang Li by the stage in the Royal City, hoping to redeem himself with a performance. And he’d indeed seen him.

Jiang Li’s presence was so striking that it wasn’t hard to spot him.

Unexpectedly, Emperor Jiang had a passerby named Qi Tongxin who kept complaining about tonight’s performance being boring and unsightly, making him so angry that he almost wanted to kill.

How could these fools understand my painstaking efforts?

Besides being unfunny, what else was wrong with tonight’s performance?

He argued, emphasizing that it was beautiful, profound, and meaningful.

Qi Tongxin disagreed, and to Lu Pin’s despair, Emperor Jiang didn’t agree either.

“Lu Pin, do you think you can compromise the interests of the people just to please me?”

“Ask yourself, if you were a commoner, a mortal, would you be willing to be treated like this?” Jiang Li was furious. Allowing such a person to enter the Human Emperor Palace and become a leader would lead to endless trouble.

Lu Pin’s harm rivaled Dong Wuwei’s.

They never realized that the Human Emperor Palace served not them, but Jiuzhou.

They had already reached the Mahayana stage and needed neither faith nor resources. What could they offer them?

Their thinking was flawed.

They didn’t need a fawning commander.

All five commanders recognized this, even believing they had done something wrong and speaking up.

Even though Jiang Li was later proven right,

Commander Liu offered them three options. Two were completely unsatisfactory, and one barely qualified.

Jiang Li suddenly realized how remarkable his five commanders were. They

were just slow-witted, ate too much, indulged in adultery, had dark hearts, and loved to show off.

Those were minor issues.

What could Commander Liu possibly be dissatisfied with?

He was afraid of comparison, Jiang Li sighed.

“Lu Pin knows his mistake.” Jiang Li had said this. To deny it would be ungrateful. He rarely saw Emperor Ren Jiang so serious and angry. Probably, he only showed such an attitude at the Jiuzhou Council when talking about the means left by the extraterritorial demons.

When Qi Tongxin saw this scene, he felt an inexplicable sense of relief in his heart.

But what followed was fear. The Emperor Ren said that if the emperor held a grudge against him, would he be able to live until tomorrow?

“If anything unexpected happens to their family, I will hold you accountable.” Jiang Li pointed at Qi Tongxin, which was equivalent to giving him a life-saving talisman.

Lu Pin trembled.

He knew that from now on, not only could he not attack Qi Tongxin, but he also had to protect the safety of Qi Tongxin’s family to prevent them from having accidents.

“And those craftsmen, working is their duty and job, but they shouldn’t do it during the New Year. Let them go home quickly.”

“Yes.”

Jiang Li, feeling depressed, left with his hands behind his back, having a wonderful New Year’s celebration ruined by such a thing.

A chilly breeze blew across his face, dampening his spirits. Suddenly, a communication symbol lit up.

“Palace Master, where are you now?” Commander Liu contacted Jiang Li.

“Something’s happened in Eastern Jiuzhou.”

Zhang Konghu popped his head up from the side. “Brother Jiang, come back to the Human Emperor Palace for the New Year. Everyone’s here.”

Commander Liu adjusted the communication symbol’s angle, and sure enough, the six commanders were gathered at the Human Emperor Palace. A hearty feast of appetizing dishes lay spread across the table, but the main seat was vacant.

“Yes, yes,” Commander Huang, who suffered from depression, smiled a rare smile. “Konghu went back to his hometown in the Great Witch Nation to celebrate the New Year with Brother Jiang at the Human Emperor Palace. He won’t be going back this year.”

“Didn’t we agree not to tell anyone?”

Zhang Konghu, visibly angry, threatened to strike Commander Huang. Chaos ensued, and everyone burst into laughter.

“We don’t have any family anyway, so we’ll just stay at the Human Emperor Palace.” Ma Zhuo and his wife laughed. “We’ve prepared a New Year’s Eve dinner for the two of us.

” “Brother Jiang, you’re the only one missing,” Commander Mu said.

“Okay, I’ll be back soon.” Jiang Li smiled from the bottom of his heart.
