Chapter 187 Lure the snake out of its hole

“Your Majesty, there is a severe drought in the south, and famine has occurred. The people have no food to eat, and can only dig up grass roots and eat tree bark. Many are starving to death.”

The King of Qi sat on his high throne, bewildered. “Why are the people so foolish? If they can’t eat rice, why don’t they eat meat porridge?”

The minister, unsure of how to respond, hesitated, and finally said, “As you wish.”

The King of Qi nodded and dismissed the minister. People sometimes have rigid thinking and are inflexible, so as an emperor, he must find clever solutions.

After the minister left, a black-robed figure quietly arrived at the palace. Lifting his hood, he revealed the Master of Qingming Tower.

Unbeknownst to the three red-robed mortal masters, the Master of Qingming Tower, renowned throughout the martial arts world, was also a member of the imperial court.

Now, following Bu Jing’s orders, the three red-robed mortal masters have severed ties with the imperial court. Buwu City has become the headquarters of the mortal masters, with the city master imprisoned, and no news can escape. The King of Qi’s attendants, unable to wait for him, grew anxious.

Fortunately, the Qingming Tower Master found an opportunity, quietly departed from the Bu residence, and returned to the imperial court.

He whispered a few words in the King of Qi’s ear and handed him a copy of the Shangqing Huangting Waijing Sutra.

The King of Qi’s martial arts skills were mediocre, and he couldn’t decipher the sutra’s mysteries. However, he had learned from the Qingming Tower Master that this book was essential reading for those who could break through to the highest levels of the human realm and achieve Waijing, and its value was inestimable!

“In a few days, those rebels will be promoted to the Waijing realm. Your Majesty, please report this matter to the Heavenly King as soon as possible for his decision.”

After explaining the situation, the Qingming Tower Master turned and left, returning to the Bu residence to continue his role as an insider.

He knew the power of the Twelve Heavenly Kings. To him, the idea of breaking through to Waijing and protecting themselves was a pipe dream!

Against the Heavenly Kings, they had no chance!

If they sided with the Heavenly Kings, they could survive for a few years, but if they sided with Bu Jing, they wouldn’t survive even two days!

Given this, it was better to demonstrate their sincerity upfront.

The King of Qi paced the hall several times, realizing the situation was serious and beyond his control. He could only contact his ancestors.

The King of Qi fell asleep as soon as he hit the bed, and he slept soundly. This was his greatest strength.

Of all the descendants of the Night King, the King of Qi was the most sleepy. Whenever the Night King wanted to contact the King of Qi, he could usually get through,

because the King of Qi was usually asleep.

…

“Ancestor, there’s a man named Bu Jing from Buwu City. He’s said to be the son of Buwu, the leader of the martial arts world three hundred years ago, and one of the Twenty-Four Young Masters!”

“Bu Jing, I can’t believe he’s still alive,” the Night King muttered quietly, keeping the King of Qi from hearing. Unaware of the origins of the Twelve Heavenly Kings, the King of Qi assumed they were truly from the upper realm, sent down to the lower realm to save all living things.

And he, the King of Qi, was, of course, a descendant of immortals, with noble immortal blood flowing through his veins.

“I can’t believe there’s another realm beyond the peak of the human realm. I thought the peak of the human realm was the end of the martial arts,” the Night King pondered. “The ‘Shangqing Huangting Waijing Jing’, is it? Bu Jing is truly gifted.”

Then he frowned in worry. Could Bu Jing be that powerful? Could there be an angel like the Supreme Envoy behind Bu Jing?

If Bu Jing had someone behind him, then he absolutely could not leave the secret realm.

At worst, he would stay there forever.

Ye Tianwang asked the question, and Qi Wang replied, “According to the Master of Qingming Tower, this is Bu Jing’s enlightenment from observing the sun, moon, and stars, and has nothing to do with others.”

Ye Tianwang nodded and relaxed. He must have been overthinking it. If Bu Jing had someone behind him, how could he just want to gather seven external warriors to evade his pursuit and survive?

Haha, the power of the Spiritual Transformation Stage was beyond their imagination. Did Bu Jing think that the seven external warriors united would not fear him?

Naive, childish.

If the power of faith in the Universal World was divided equally among the twelve Heavenly Kings, it could elevate them to the peak of the Spiritual Transformation Stage. If it was concentrated on just one Heavenly King, it would be enough to bring that King to the Fusion Stage. What would Bu Jing have to fight him then?

“Furthermore, Bu Jing’s schemes have led to a flood of old martial arts manuals on the market, forcing the court to conduct house-to-house searches to stem their spread.” The King of Qi reported the truth. If Bu Jing was merely a top-tier martial artist, he could still resort to forceful means to prevent people from learning the old martial arts manuals.

The King of Qi didn’t want to disclose the matter, as it would tarnish his ancestors’ impression of him.

But he had no

choice but to report it. If Bu Jing became a martial artist, not only would the spread of the old martial arts manuals be stopped, but his life as emperor

would be in jeopardy. “Tsk, you useless piece of shit! You’re causing trouble!” Ye Tianwang scolded the King of Qi, who could only listen obediently.

Bu Jing wasn’t a concern; the proliferation of the old martial arts manuals was the real problem for Ye Tianwang. If people discovered the old martial arts manuals weren’t what he claimed, they would begin to distrust the Heavenly Kings. That

would shatter the image of the Heavenly King as a savior. When disaster strikes, who would trust the Heavenly King in salvation?

It seemed the only option was to forcibly confiscate the old martial arts manuals and see if they worked. If that didn’t work, they’d

have to do what they did three hundred years ago: kill a handful of rebellious individuals, shackle generations of people, conceal this part of history, and then figure out how to create a devastating natural disaster. The latter scenario was something Night King didn’t want to see. He didn’t care how many people died; he cared about the time it would take to accomplish it!

“I’m aware of this,” Night King said, and left the dream.

After Night King left, three figures reappeared in the dream.

“I thought all the Twelve Heavenly Kings could come to the dreamland and wipe them out,”

Bai Hongtu sighed. As the leader of the Dao Sect, it was normal for him to know a little about the Way of Dreams. While he couldn’t compare to the Great Dream Monk who had created a profound secret realm, invading the dream of a half-baked, unskilled Spiritual Transformation Stage cultivator was still a piece of cake.

He could tell at a glance that this so-called Night King had been forced to rise through elixirs; calling him an unskilled cultivator was a bit of a compliment.

As for the Dream Dao mastered by Night King, while seemingly ingenious to those in the Universal World, Bai Hongtu saw it as riddled with flaws.

If Night King dared to claim his mastery of the Dream Dao in Jiuzhou, the Great Dream Monk would resurrect.

Bai Hongtu even considered turning the tables and becoming the master of the dream, forcing Night King to sleep in it, unable to awaken forever.

After the three learned of the alteration of Universal World history, they formulated a plan.

While the Heavenly Kings’ motives in altering history were unknown, they were undoubtedly concerned. By reversing history and raising suspicions about them, they would be forced to intervene.

As the three anticipated, the situation in Buwu City was significant. King Qi contacted the Heavenly Kings, prompting them to leave the secret realm.

If all twelve Heavenly Kings appeared in the dream, matters would be much simpler. The three would naturally have a way to kill them through the dream realm.

Simply by completely annihilating the consciousness that entered the dream, the owner of that consciousness would die—a method of killing in the Dream Dao.

Unfortunately, only Night King had arrived. Killing him would alert the other Heavenly Kings, frightening them and making them afraid to emerge.

“But the situation is urgent for them now. They must emerge from the secret realm within two days,” Jiang Li asserted.

Night King was unaware, as he was the only one who had escaped the disaster by entering the dream realm, thus remaining hidden for two days.

“How could this pig-like person become emperor?” As an emperor herself, Yu Yin looked at the still-dreaming Prince Qi with disgust. She had thought that the previous emperor of Yong, Emperor Luo Zheng, was the lowest echelon of emperors.

She had never expected that there were even more foolish people than Luo Zheng. As an emperor, he didn’t even understand the situation of the common people. How could such a person possibly govern a country well?

The Prince of Qi refreshed Yu Yin’s understanding.

Any emperor in Jiuzhou would be better than the Prince of Qi.
