                                          1292: Betrayal and Perseverance
Yanhua felt someone suddenly embrace her and instinctively reached out to attack. Seeing it was Zuan, she lowered her grip.
But as soon as she relaxed her grip, she felt a burning pain all over her body, as if her veins were ripping apart.
The soldier who had attacked her earlier didn’t pursue. Instead, he cautiously kept his distance, watching from afar.
Zuan finally saw his face. He had a tall nose and broad eyes, and a rather barbaric look, clearly not from the Central Plains.
“As expected of the King of Assassins of Persia, the Old Man of the Mountains, your attack today truly opened my eyes,” Zhenjin exclaimed in admiration.
While the other masters under his command looked a little indignant, they also held a certain admiration in their hearts.
The strength this woman had just displayed was obvious to all. She had even managed to kill a formidable figure like the Red Sun Dharma King.
And yet, her single strike was enough to inflict heavy damage, her timing impeccable.
With the fireworks severely damaged, the Mongol warriors on the battlefield knew their side was certain to win. Fearing a near-death counterattack from the enemy, potentially costing them their lives, they paused their attacks and surrounded the two men from a distance, a brief lull descending upon the battlefield.
Zuan gazed at the old man in the mountains, having never expected to encounter this Persian assassin king.
However, by now, the Mongols had likely conquered much of Persia, so it was only natural that he would be recruited for his services.
Zhenjin spoke again, “Master Guo, your sister is seriously injured. If she isn’t treated quickly, her life is in danger. Why don’t you reconsider my earlier proposal? I will certainly send someone to heal her.”
His composure stemmed from his
awareness of the experts lurking within his circle. Now that the outcome was settled, he once again considered recruiting them. He employed
both persuasion and tactical tactics: “Master Guo, think carefully before you answer. You’re alone now. In a real fight, not only will you be unable to save your sister, but you’ll also be left with only one option. You must be a wise man.”
Zuan’s face darkened, knowing the truth.
If Fireworks hadn’t been injured, these people wouldn’t have been able to stop them if they had teamed up to break out.
Now that she was the only one left, surrounded by so many experts, her chances of successfully breaking out were 50-50.
If she had to take an injured Fireworks with her, her chances of success would have dropped to zero.
Fireworks was clearly aware of this, and she said coldly, “Go on your own.”
She had always relied on herself, never expecting others to protect her.
Moreover, their relationship wasn’t close, more like forced friendship than a mutually beneficial one. How could he possibly take such a risk to save her?
Without expectations, there would be no disappointment.
Unexpectedly, Zuan smiled, “We’re companions, how could I abandon you?”
Yanhua frowned, her expression utterly bewildered. “We’re not companions, we’re competitors, in a way.”
Zuan remained calm, “Since we came together, we must return together. I’ve said before that I’ll find a way for all four of us to escape successfully. How could I possibly abandon you here? If we were in each other’s shoes, I’m sure you wouldn’t abandon me either.
” Yanhua sneered, “You overestimate yourself. I’d never care about you.”
“That’s a shame,” Zuan said, but he remained where he was, not leaving.
Yanhua’s face held a hint of sneer. This man was simply blinded by his heroism, blinded to reality.
If the situation truly became life-or-death, he would still leave without hesitation.
She had seen this happen too many times before: friendship and love, held together, ultimately betrayed.
She immediately focused on healing her internal injuries, but her frown deepened. That mountain old man was truly formidable. His recent surprise attack had nearly shattered her heart meridians, leaving her unable to draw upon her internal energy to heal.
I never imagined that after all these years of roaming the world, I’d end up here.
Seeing Zuan pay no attention, Prince Zhenjin’s face darkened. He waved his hand, “Attack!”
The surrounding Mongol warriors unleashed a barrage of arrows at the two.
Zuan kicked his toes, and two spears materialized in his hands, quickly shielding him from the rain of arrows.
Knowing that such passive defense would only render him a hedgehog, he found an opening and stomped the ground hard, sending the stray arrows flying into the air. Then, with a sweep of his spear, the volley of arrows flew back. As the archers stumbled, he grasped Yanhua’s waist with one hand and charged into the midst of the Mongol warriors.
Only with the cover of the crowd could he avoid being a sitting duck.
Yanhua frowned, the heat radiating from her waist making her feel extremely uncomfortable.
She had indeed been held like this before, but back then, it was purely a cat-and-mouse situation. This was the first time she felt truly helpless and in need of his protection.
But what good would it do? He would eventually abandon her. Rather than this, it would be better to leave from the start, to avoid any emotional upheaval.
Her expression grew even colder, and for some reason, she was thinking.
Meanwhile, the surrounding Mongol warriors and Quanzhen Taoists attacked Zuan. Unfortunately, Zuan, with his foresight and insight, held his ground firmly, fending off wave after wave of attacks.
Taoist Baisun and the other Mongol masters exchanged glances, each seeing the horror in their own eyes. Yanhua
‘s previous attack had already shocked them, but they hadn’t expected another one. Seeing the other’s moves, they even had a vague feeling that if they returned to retreat and meditate for a while, they might even achieve a breakthrough. Considering
their cultivation, they had essentially reached the peak, having seen no significant progress in decades. And yet, seeing two young men showing signs of a breakthrough today, one can only imagine the shock they had caused.
Seeing that half of his Mongolian warriors and Quanzhen disciples had been killed or wounded, Zhenjin’s face trembled. “I hope you all will join forces to capture this man!”
He knew that each of these men was a powerful master, each esteemed for their status. Only he could persuade them to join forces.
However, this time, his thinking was wrong. After witnessing the two men’s fighting prowess, these masters no longer had any of their previous arrogance. The reason they had held back was simply to use the Mongolian warriors and Quanzhen disciples to deplete their internal energy.
They could clearly see that the two men’s use of both techniques and internal energy was a formidable skill. Their internal energy, however, was perhaps a relative weakness due to their age.
Only by draining their internal energy would they have a chance of victory.
Those warriors and Taoists had not died in vain. By now, the man’s internal energy must have been depleted by at least half. With the prince’s order, they naturally refused to refuse.
The leader of the Vajra Sect, relying on his Vajra Indestructible Divine Art, charged head-on.
Taoist Baisun unleashed the Mysterious Netherworld Divine Palm, consuming the opponent with its poisonous cold power.
Yang Lianzhenjia’s cultivation surpassed even that of the Red Sun Dharma King.
Even more troubling was the mountain elder, a venomous snake lurking in the shadows, poised to deliver a fatal blow at any moment, forcing Zuan to conserve considerable energy to guard against him.
The four greatest masters of the time, all immensely experienced in combat, saw how the enemy had methodically stopped their combined attack and quickly adjusted their tactics, focusing their attack on the injured Fireworks. As the saying goes, attack them and then rescue them, leaving them exhausted.
In the past, such a tactic would have been detrimental to their status, but in this moment, no one saw anything wrong with it.
As expected, Zuan’s initial composure quickly turned to a state of disarray, his body quickly plagued by wounds.
Seeing this, Fireworks’ expression grew even more icy: “Alright, you’ve done your duty as a friend. Why insist? Go!”
Zuan smiled: “I don’t have a habit of abandoning my companions, let alone a beautiful woman.”
As he finished speaking, another wound appeared on his shoulder.
Fireworks closed his eyes, his expression unrecognizable: “Shameless pervert, destined to fall victim to a woman.”
