Chapter 36: Magu’s Thoughts

Lu Qing and his partner’s lavish purchases at the market naturally attracted the attention of many people.

So when the two left, several people gathered outside the market, whispering.

“Boss, those two guys bought a lot of things. They are obviously fat sheep. Do you want to go up and get some money from them?”

A shifty-eyed young man first suggested.

However, as soon as he said this, he was immediately despised by the others.

Especially the man called the boss, who looked at him as if he was a fool.

The man called Xiaotian replied respectfully.

“Then take some time to go to Jiuli Village and find out if that old doctor has recently accepted a disciple named Lu Qing.”

“Yes.” Xiaotian replied respectfully.

Knowing that Master Ma wanted to investigate the young man who had just brought silver to the market to buy things,

Xiaotian suddenly remembered something and quickly reported, “Master Ma, when I came in just now, I thought I saw Chen San and his gang acting suspiciously outside. They seemed to have some feelings for that young man named Lu Qing.”

“Chen San? What are those little scoundrels doing in my territory?” Master Ma’s eyes narrowed.

“I heard they stole some things in Damu Village a while ago, and the village elders there ordered them not to go near the village anymore, so they’ve come here to hang out.”

“These little scoundrels, instead of doing their jobs, just think about stealing and robbing people all day long. Go out and warn them. If they dare to touch our customers at the market, I’ll break all their legs!”

Xiaotian went out excitedly.

If this young man was indeed the apprentice of the old doctor Chen, it would be great news for him.

Lu Qing, however, remained vigilant, aware that his purchases at the market had drawn some attention.

However, there was nothing he could do. He had a lot of things to do next, and he didn’t have the time to rush to the market every now and then, so he had to take a risk.

Fortunately, nothing unexpected happened until they reached the village entrance.

The two men took the red rope down from the tree, placed it back under the stone slab, and continued carrying their belongings to Lu Qing’s home.

It was almost noon, and most villagers were at home resting, with few people walking around the village.

So, when Lu Qing got home, he didn’t see anyone.

“Huh, I’m finally back,”

Wang Da’an said, breathless, after putting all his belongings down.

“Thank you, Brother Da’an! Without your help, I wouldn’t be able to carry so many things back,” Lu Qing said with gratitude. The

heavier purchases, such as grain and meat, were all with Wang Da’an.

Lu Qing carried the lighter daily necessities.

“Why thank me? This is what I should do. Actually, I should thank you. Today was the first time I’d spoken so closely to Master Ma, and he even remembered my name!”

Wang Da’an’s excitement returned.

“Is this Master Ma very powerful?” Lu Qing asked curiously.

“Of course he is!” Wang Da’an replied. “You have to understand, the entire market is managed by Master Ma, and he has a team of subordinates. He’s the most powerful man in this area!”

This only made Lu Qing even more confused.

He thought the market’s prosperity was somewhat unexpected,

but after all, it was just a small market.

The items sold there weren’t luxury goods, mostly agricultural and sideline products.

And judging by Master Ma’s display, he didn’t seem like someone who would care about such a small sum.

So why was he even at the market?

Was there something else going on?

Lu Qing was puzzled.

“Brother Da’an, has this fair always been managed by Mr. Ma?”

“So…” Lu Qing seemed lost in thought.

“Okay, I’m going back now. Ah Qing, you should rest first. You must be tired carrying so much stuff.”

Seeing Wang Da’an about to leave, Lu Qing quickly called out to him, “Wait a minute, Brother Da’an!”

Then he pulled a piece of pork, half fat and half lean, from his backpack.

“Take this piece of meat back. Make something delicious tonight for Grandpa Wang to try.”

“No, no!” Wang Da’an waved his hands when he saw it. “This meat is not cheap. You should keep it for you and Xiaoyan!”

“I have a lot here, as you can see. Besides, you showed me the way this time and helped me carry so many things back. This piece of meat is my thank you gift to you.”

“You don’t need that much. Such a big piece of meat is worth more than ten coins!”

“Just take it!” Lu Qing forced the meat into Wang Da’an’s hand. “If you don’t want it, I won’t be able to ask you for help again if I need something in the future.”

“Well… okay.”

Seeing that Lu Qing said so, Wang Da’an had no choice but to accept the meat.

“Okay, don’t be embarrassed. Let’s go back quickly. We’ve been away for so long. Grandpa Wang might be worried. Brother Da’an, go back and tell him you’re safe.”

Seeing that Wang Da’an seemed a little embarrassed after accepting the meat, Lu Qing pushed him out.

After Wang Daan left, Lu Qing cut off another small piece of meat.

Then, he took the meat and prepared to go to Grandpa Zhang’s house next door to pick up Xiaoyan.
