I Can See Through Everything - Chapter 24

Chapter 24 The root of the disease
“Where am I?”
Old Zhao asked, bewildered, waking up and seeing the people around him.
“Old Zhao, you forgot! You fell into the water and nearly drowned. We were the ones who saved you!”
“Yeah, we heard you screaming, and when we got there, you were practically underwater!”
“If it weren’t for the old doctor’s incredible skills, you’d be meeting your father right now!”
“How did you end up in the water? Were you pulled in by a fish?”
Amidst the villagers’ chatter, Old Zhao finally remembered something.
Then, with a start, he said, “Oh, right? The fish! Where’s my fishing rod?”
“I was still thinking about your rod. When we pulled you out, you were clinging to it, and we thought it was too much trouble, so we just threw it down the river,” one of the villagers replied.
“Oh, how could you throw my rod away? Where did you throw it?” Old Zhao fretted.
The villager was now displeased. “What’s the matter, Old Zhao? We rescued you out of kindness, and you didn’t even say thank you, and now you’re blaming us?”
“That’s right. If I had known, I wouldn’t have rescued you and let you drown!”
“You’re so ungrateful! We went into the river to save you and even went through all the trouble to carry you to the old doctor!”
The other villagers were also dissatisfied.
“Well, well… I was just worried about the fishing rod. I put so much effort into making it. Don’t be offended. Thank you for saving me.”
Old Zhao realized he was in the wrong and hurriedly thanked him.
The villagers, though tough on the outside, softened at heart, and their expressions brightened when they saw Old Zhao’s thanks.
“Okay, forget about your broken rod. Tell me how you fell in the water. I remember you never went into the river before?”
“I-I jumped in on my own,” Old Zhao said after a few twists of his lips before finally answering honestly.
“Jumped in by yourself?!” one villager exclaimed in disbelief. “Don’t you know you can’t swim? How dare you jump in the river?”
“How could I have known the water was so deep? I thought it would only reach my thighs at most,” Old Zhao argued.
“Then why did you jump in the river?”
“Well, well…” Old Zhao hesitated for a moment before saying, “I accidentally let a fish pull away my fishing rod. In a fit of rage, I tried to get it back, so I just jumped in.”
Lu Qing, standing nearby, responded: “…”
Indeed, that was the case.
As Wang Da’an had just described, he had guessed that Old Zhao had jumped in to try to get the fishing rod.
He’d seen this happen many times in his past life.
He’d even done it himself.
He hadn’t expected Old Zhao, who couldn’t even swim, to be so reckless.
“You, you’re so foolish!”
The other villagers hadn’t imagined that Old Zhao had nearly gotten himself into trouble for something like this.
“Your broken fishing rod is worth nothing. You can just go to the mountain and cut some bamboo to make another one. You almost lost your life for this. Is your brain eaten by a pig?”
A villager who was on good terms with Lao Zhao started to curse immediately.
Lao Zhao didn’t dare to speak.
He didn’t dare to say that he jumped down not only because he felt sorry for the fishing rod, but more because it was a rare big fish that could easily drag his fishing rod away. He was reluctant to let it go.
The two big fish that Lu Qing caught yesterday made him envious.
How many meals can such a big fish eat? It’s a rare opportunity for him to catch a big fish, so how could he let it go.
However, this incident also made him sure that there were indeed big fish in that place.
Next time, as long as he’s more careful, he’ll definitely be able to catch something!
The villagers didn’t know what Lao Zhao was thinking, otherwise, they would definitely scold him again.
At this time, Lao Zhao wanted to get up, but found that his whole body was soft and weak, he couldn’t muster any strength, his head was a little dizzy, and he couldn’t move his body.
He was suddenly shocked: “Old doctor, what’s wrong with me? Why can’t
I move?” Old Doctor Chen sighed: “You have been soaking in the water for a long time, and the cold air has entered your body. You also drank a lot of dirty water from the river, which damaged your spleen and organs. You even held your breath for a long time. Although I drained the dirty water from your body and woke you up, your body is already damaged.”
“Then what should I do, old doctor, please save me, save me!”
Lao Zhao was terrified when he heard this, and he begged quickly.
The idea of catching a big fish just now was long gone.
“Don’t worry, I’m a doctor, I’ll naturally treat you,” the old doctor soothed. “But you’re old now, and recovery won’t be easy. You need to rest and recuperate for a while.”
“Will I be able to walk again?” Old Zhao asked hopefully.
“Walking is certainly no problem. As for how well I can recover, it depends on how well you rest,” the old doctor said.
“As long as I can walk,” Old Zhao felt a little relieved.
He was truly terrified that he would become paralyzed.
“Where’s my dad? Where is my dad?”
Just as Old Zhao breathed a sigh of relief, a sudden commotion erupted from outside the yard, followed by a group of people rushing in.
Leading the group were two young men, a woman, and an elderly woman.
Behind them were other villagers who had rushed over after hearing the news.
“Dad!”
The older young man, seeing the lying Old Zhao, hurried over.
“I heard Dashan shouting, saying you fell into the water and were being taken to the old doctor. What happened?”
It turned out that when Wang Da’an and the others were bringing Old Zhao here, they had also sent someone to Old Zhao’s house to inform him.
“I, I’m fine now,”
Old Zhao said, feeling a little guilty, looking at his son.
“What do you mean fine?” A villager nearby directly pointed out, “Aming, your father went fishing alone and jumped into the river. He almost died…”
Then he told the whole story.
As soon as he finished, the old woman, Old Zhao’s wife, burst into tears and cursed.
“You damned thing, I told you not to go fishing, but you insisted on going. You can’t swim, so why did you go to the river and jump in? Do you want me to follow you after you die?!”
Old Zhao’s son, Zhao Ming, was also not happy.
But as a son, he couldn’t scold his father.
He had no choice but to persuade him: “Dad, why don’t we stop going fishing in the future? We don’t lack fish at home, so why bother?”
The second son also said: “Yes, Dad, in the future, just tell us what you want to eat. No matter how hard it is, I will get it for you. Don’t do such dangerous things anymore.”
“No, I won’t go anymore.”
Old Zhao was blushing at what his wife and sons said, and had to agree.
“Don’t worry, Ming, even if your dad wants to go fishing again, he can’t go.” At this time, a villager said again, “The old doctor said that your dad was severely blistered this time and has developed a chronic disease. If he doesn’t rest well during this period, I’m afraid he will have difficulty even walking in the future.”
“What?!”
Old Zhao’s family was shocked.
