Chapter 13 A familiar scene

After the old doctor entered the room, he came out again soon.

He was holding a small box in his hand.

“Take this.”

The old doctor handed the box to Lu Qing.

“What is this?”

Lu Qing opened the box and saw a small bundle of almost transparent white silk threads inside.

“This silk thread was given to me by a wounded knight when I was traveling abroad in my early years.”

“I don’t know exactly what it is, but this silk thread is extremely tough and can’t be easily broken. It should meet your requirements for making fishing line.”

“Grandpa Chen, this is too precious. I can’t take it.” Lu Qing hurriedly pushed the thing back when he heard it.

Things that others give to repay a life-saving grace must be extraordinary. Lu Qing really didn’t dare to take it casually.

However, when he heard the word knight, his heart moved.

This world really has such extraordinary people. But

the old doctor Chen didn’t take it.

He waved his hand, saying, “You can take it. I have no use for it. It’s been with me for over ten years, and I haven’t used it. If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have forgotten I even had it.”

“Since you need strong silk thread for your fishing line, why not use it? It’ll be a good use for it, and it won’t just sit here gathering dust.”

“If you truly feel it’s unworthy of me, when you catch something good, give me a share. That little fish you caught yesterday was quite delicious, perfect for a drink.”

Lu Qing held the box, feeling both grateful and ashamed.

The old doctor treated him and his sister so well, and he felt truly ashamed that he had previously considered stealing his skills.

Looking at the box in his hand, Lu Qing silently made a decision.

In the days ahead, unless Old Doctor Chen offered to teach him,

he would never again attempt to imitate the old doctor’s skills.

“Don’t worry, Grandpa Chen, when I catch something good next time, I’ll be sure to bring it to you as soon as possible!”

Lu Qing said earnestly, gripping the small box tightly.

The old doctor laughed heartily: “Haha, then I’ll be looking forward to it!”

Lu Qing’s heart was filled with excitement as he left the old doctor’s house.

Today’s harvest was truly enormous.

Not only had he gained the favor of old doctor Chen and adjusted his body, but he also had the opportunity to learn how to identify medicinal herbs from him.

He even got a box of silk thread of mysterious origin.

Lu Qing’s intuition told him that the box of silk thread given to him by the old doctor was not ordinary.

However, when he was with the old doctor before, he couldn’t stare at the silk thread too much, otherwise he would have used his supernatural powers to find out what it was.

When he came down from the mountain with Xiaoyan and returned to the village, Lu Qing happened to see several villagers carrying bamboo poles and buckets, chatting and laughing, coming back from the village entrance.

As soon as they saw Lu Qing, they started shouting from afar: “Lu Qing!”

“Uncle Shi, did you just get back from fishing?”

Lu Qing asked, noticing the poles on the villagers’ shoulders.

“Yeah.” The villager whom Lu Qing called Uncle Shi said excitedly, “Didn’t we listen to your method of fishing with earthworms yesterday? Early this morning, Dashan and I dug some earthworms and went to the river to try it out. You know what, Lu Qing, your method is really effective. Look, this is our harvest today!”

After that, he showed Lu Qing the bucket in his hand.

Lu Qing took a look and saw that there were quite a few fish in the bucket, about one or two kilograms.

Some of them were even bigger than the ones he caught yesterday.

He looked at the buckets of several other villagers, and everyone had a harvest. The smallest one had a small fish weighing half a kilogram.

One villager was lucky and caught a big fish weighing more than one kilogram.

However, the villager was also annoyed: “I originally caught a bigger one, but the fish was too strong and it broke my hemp line in one go. I can’t even find the hook!”

“I told you not to pull so hard, to give it some time, but you insisted on trying. It’s a wonder the line didn’t break!” a villager chided.

“How could I have imagined a fish this strong? I thought it must have weighed over five pounds!”

“Come on, it’s only two pounds at most. If it weighed five pounds, you wouldn’t have been able to pull it in the first time!”

“It’s definitely five pounds!”

…

Listening to the villagers bickering about the size of the unreeled fish, Lu Qing couldn’t help but laugh.

This scene was all too familiar to him.

In his previous life, it was the same when he and his fellow anglers went fishing.

If someone’s line got cut, no matter how it was cut, they would always exaggerate the size of the fish.

Anything less than ten pounds was considered disrespectful to their fishing skills!

He hadn’t expected to witness this scene even after being reborn into another world.

As expected, no matter which world, the temperaments of anglers are so similar.

Lu Qing’s laughter made Uncle Shi and the others feel a little embarrassed.

Xiaoyan’s wide-eyed expression as she watched them bickering made them feel even more ashamed.

A group of adults arguing like this in front of two children was truly beneath the dignity of the elders.

“Lu Qing, where did you come from?”

Uncle Shi tried to ease the awkwardness by changing the subject.

Lu Qing replied, “Xiaoyan and I just got back from Grandpa Chen.”

Uncle Shi nodded, “Old Doctor Chen, of course. He cured you, so we should pay him a visit and thank him.”

He mistakenly assumed Lu Qing was going to thank the old doctor.

“Well, if it weren’t for Grandpa Chen, I’m afraid I wouldn’t be standing here,” Lu Qing didn’t deny.

“By the way, Lu Qing, you’re the one who came up with this fishing method. Pick a few of the fish here and take them home to eat,” Uncle Shi said.

“Yeah, if it weren’t for your method, we wouldn’t have known earthworms could be used for fishing!”

“Pick mine, pick mine, my fish is bigger!”

“Bullshit, how can yours be as big as mine? I caught the biggest fish, pick mine!”

Several other villagers chimed in.

“Uncles, no thanks. I haven’t even finished all the fish I caught yesterday,” Lu Qing declined.

“If you can’t finish it, just eat more. You and Xiaoyan are both so thin. Fish is more nutritious, so you should eat more!”

Finally, Lu Qing couldn’t resist the villagers and symbolically took a few fish from each villager’s bucket, stringing them on some grass from the roadside.

In this way, he had collected more than half a pound of fish.

“Take more!” Uncle Shi continued to urge him.

“I really can’t take any more. If you take more, we don’t have enough oil and salt to cook fish.”

This time, Lu Qing refused to take any more.

Uncle Shi and the others finally gave up their urging.

Indeed, without oil and salt, fish wouldn’t taste good without the fishy smell.

So, Lu Qing took Xiaoyan and the others, said goodbye to Uncle Shi and the others, and returned to his own courtyard.

Once home, he first put the fish in the kitchen.

Then he took out the small box that Old Doctor Chen had given him.

He opened it and quietly examined the silk thread inside.
