Chapter 16563. Fees

Lingzhu and the others were all elites from the lower realm. They had all fought their way up from there; no one could ascend without effort or killing, relying solely on cultivation. Therefore, their experience was vast, and they were all intelligent.

So why did they seem to become foolish after arriving in the God Realm? It’s quite simple: they hadn’t adjusted their mindset. In the lower realm, they were the highest-ranking figures in a powerful force, possessing the greatest strength. With this mindset, they ascended to the God Realm. Although they were merely low-ranking gods in the God Realm, seemingly of low status, they were still gods. They were immortal, and they had followers—the lowest-ranking beings in the God Realm. Of course, they didn’t concern themselves with other people’s followers, but Lingzhu and the others, with diligent cultivation, would eventually have their own followers. Because of this, even as the lowest-ranking gods, they never considered themselves the lowest existence in the God Realm.

This is precisely why they haven’t adjusted their mindset. The small alliance they formed before didn’t even have a signed covenant. To put it bluntly, it was just a few like-minded people getting together to chat occasionally, like the old men in the neighborhood who aren’t very close but play chess or cards together—there’s no real connection.

Because their mindset wasn’t right, they never considered building a well-organized force like a sect. Until Zhao Hai appeared, although they are still allies with him, this alliance is now led by Zhao Hai. In a sense, it’s already the rudimentary form of a sect.

Does a sect need ordinary disciples to establish itself? No, first, it needs sufficiently strong experts. If you’re not strong enough, and you don’t have other strong experts around you to help you, then it’s almost impossible to build a sect. Even if you do manage to build one, it will only be a small sect. So, generally, a sect is established when several experts gather together and build a force—that’s the rudimentary form of a sect.

A sect’s organization is naturally more rigorous than an alliance. There is only one sect leader; others can only be elders, or elders with real power, but there can only be one sect leader who makes the decisions. Therefore, Zhao Hai and his group already have the rudiments of a sect, because Zhao Hai holds the highest position.

Although they now have the rudiments of a sect, Ling Zhu and the others haven’t adjusted their mindset. They still consider themselves experts, even gods, so they don’t think like ordinary rogue cultivators. This is why you might feel they’ve become foolish.

It’s like a former billionaire who, although bankrupt, still has a lot of money. Because of this, they haven’t adjusted their mindset; they still think they’re billionaires. They haven’t tried to change their perspective and view the world from the viewpoint of a bankrupt person, which leads to many misjudgments.

Zhao Hai, however, had already adjusted his mindset. To be honest, his starting point was higher than Ling Zhu’s. Ling Zhu and the others would need to find coordinates for other realms later, while Zhao Hai didn’t. Moreover, Zhao Hai’s current strength was already considerable, almost on par with a creator god. However, Zhao Hai remained cautious, still wanting to establish his own power in the God Realm. His mindset was different from Ling Zhu’s. Ling Zhu and the others ascended to the God Realm alone, but Zhao Hai brought the entire Blood Slaughter Sect with him. This would greatly aid his future cultivation, but it also made him more cautious. If something happened to him, the entire Blood Slaughter Sect would be affected, something Zhao Hai absolutely didn’t want to see. Therefore, he always considered things one step ahead.

Looking at the silent Ling Zhu and the others, Zhao Hai smiled slightly and said, “Alright, don’t think so much. You’ll adjust your mindset gradually. Let’s go.” Ling Zhu and the others responded and continued walking forward.

Ten days later, they set up another rendezvous point, and then another ten days later, they set up yet another rendezvous point. Each time they set up a rendezvous point, they had to send one person down. By the time they finally arrived at the Taoist’s divine kingdom again, they had set up six rendezvous points.

When they arrived at the Taoist’s rendezvous point, the Taoist was already waiting for them. Lingzhu directed the Green Leaf Boat to fly over and stop in front of the Taoist. He then stepped out of the cabin, bowed to the Taoist, and said with a smile, “How are you, Taoist? Greetings.”

The Taoist smiled and said, “Fellow Daoist, you are too kind. I saw you coming from afar, so I waited for you here. I would like to buy another piece of spatial equipment from you. Is that alright?”

Lingzhu smiled and said, “That is possible, but if you want to buy a single piece of spatial equipment, you will need at least fifteen cubic meters of soil. Do you agree?”

The Taoist smiled and said, “Agreed, of course I agree, and it’s already prepared.” With that, he waved his hand, and the next moment fifteen cubic meters of soil appeared in front of him.

The Taoist priest had calculated very clearly. He had previously spent two cubic meters of soil to buy the underground palace flower, and then used three cubic meters of soil to fuse the flower with the soil. After the fusion was complete, if he wanted to use the underground palace flower to exchange for spatial equipment, he would need another ten cubic meters of soil. So, in the end, it would still cost fifteen cubic meters of soil. Therefore, Lingzhu did not ask for a high price.

Lingzhu collected the soil and then gave the Taoist a spatial ring. After examining it and finding no problems, the Taoist put the ring on his hand.

Once he had the ring on, Lingzhu said to the Taoist, “Fellow Daoist, I have a question I’d like to ask you. Is that alright?”

The Taoist was taken aback, then smiled and said, “Please ask, Fellow Daoist.”

Lingzhu nodded and said, “Thank you very much, Fellow Daoist. I just wanted to ask, how far away from the Buddha City should we build the foundation for a new divine kingdom outside of the Buddha City?”

The Taoist was surprised, then smiled and said, “So that’s what you’re asking about. It’s not a secret; many people know that the Buddha City doesn’t specify a certain distance.” Only then can a divine kingdom be built, but they have another rule: if the foundation of the divine kingdom is to be built within ten days’ journey from the Buddha City, one must pay the Buddha City 1,000 cubic meters of soil annually as a fee. If the journey exceeds ten days but is within twenty days, one hundred cubic meters of soil must be paid annually; if it is between twenty and thirty days, ten cubic meters of soil must be paid annually; and beyond thirty days, they do not charge any further fees. That’s why my divine kingdom is built here. We are thirty days’ journey from the Buddha City, so we don’t need to pay any fees. I think the twenty to thirty-day range from the Buddha City is also… There’s no difference. There’s no need to pay those ten cubic meters of soil. For distances between ten and twenty days, they charge one hundred cubic meters of soil annually, which I can’t bear to pay. As for being ten days away from the Buddha City, that’s too expensive; I simply can’t afford it. So I’ve stayed here. In fact, it’s not just me; many people are here. Although we’re about thirty days away from the Buddha City, it’s still quite safe within that distance. The Buddha City wouldn’t allow anyone to cause trouble within this area, which is why many people build their divine kingdoms here. I think this might be the Buddha City’s way of taking care of us; it doesn’t want us to… “We’re too close to it, and it’s not appropriate to openly set such a rule, so we came up with this fee schedule.”

Upon hearing this, Lingzhu quickly bowed to him and said, “Thank you, fellow Daoist.”

The Daoist smiled and said, “No need to be so polite. In the Buddhist City, anyone can find out about this. There’s no need for your thanks.”

Lingzhu smiled and said, “I still want to thank you, fellow Daoist. We have other matters to attend to, so we’ll be leaving now.”

The Daoist acknowledged, and then the two clasped their fists in a fist salute. Lingzhu then directly directed the Green Leaf Boat to leave. The Daoist glanced at the departing Green Leaf Boat before returning to his divine kingdom.

Meanwhile, Lingzhu returned to the cabin. As soon as he entered, he saw Zhao Hai sitting there and immediately asked, “Did you hear that? What should we do next?”

Zhao Hai replied, “Our nearest rendezvous point is very close. How about this: we move forward for about ten days, build another rendezvous point, and then stop building them. That way, we’ll be only about twenty days away from the nearest rendezvous point in Buddha City, making our movements much easier. As for getting within twenty days, that’s unnecessary. Doing so might attract Buddha City’s attention. Ten cubic meters of soil a year is very different from one hundred cubic meters a year. People would rather produce ten cubic meters a year than one hundred cubic meters.”

Lingzhu shook his head after hearing Zhao Hai’s words, saying, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.” In reality, even a low-level god couldn’t condense ten cubic meters of soil in a year. Let alone ten cubic meters, even one cubic meter isn’t easy to condense. So ten cubic meters of soil is no small number. I think we shouldn’t go within thirty days of the Buddha City. That might attract the Buddha City’s attention.”

Zhao Hai frowned slightly upon hearing this, then nodded and said, “Alright, then let’s not set up a rendezvous point inside. Thirty days is acceptable; at least the distance has been shortened by more than half, which is already quite good.”

Everyone nodded, and then Zhao Hai said, “Full speed ahead, get to the Buddha City as quickly as possible.” Everyone responded, and the Azure Leaf Boat’s speed increased again. Zhao Hai, however, was looking at the projection, thinking about how to build a few more rendezvous points without paying the Buddha City. (End of Chapter)
