Chapter 16557. The Shop

After the Taoist priest boarded the ship, they became less talkative. Even Lingzhu and the others barely spoke. They dared not say much, fearing they might reveal too much information during conversation, which the Taoist priest wouldn’t trust, and they didn’t trust him either. So, they would occasionally exchange a few words with the Taoist priest, but they kept quiet about anything of substance.

Another ten days or so passed, and finally, they saw Buddha City. The moment they saw it, Lingzhu and the others breathed a sigh of relief. They were relieved to have found Buddha City. They had left a location in the Black Sea; once they found Buddha City, they would leave another location there, ensuring a smooth journey between the Black Sea and Buddha City.

Seeing Lingzhu and the others’ expressions, the Taoist priest felt much more at ease. He could tell that their reaction was genuine upon first arriving in Buddha City, meaning Lingzhu hadn’t lied.

Upon arriving at the Buddhist City, Lingzhu and the others immediately put away the Azure Leaf Boat. They then entered the city. The Taoist priest, after entering, clasped his hands in a fist salute to Lingzhu and the others, saying, “Thank you all. I have other matters to attend to in the Buddhist City, so I’ll be leaving now. Here is my contact information. If you’ve rented a shop, please let me know so I can come and support you.”

Lingzhu understood his meaning and smiled slightly, saying, “Alright, I will definitely inform you, fellow Taoist.” As he spoke, he accepted the Taoist’s gift: a small wooden sword, very small, only about the length of his little finger, but it looked exquisitely crafted. Lingzhu put the wooden sword away and then left with the others.

After parting ways with the Taoist, Lingzhu looked around and asked, “What do we do next?”

Lingfeng said, “Leave it to me.” With that, Lingfeng walked forward, observing his surroundings as he went. Soon he arrived at a shop. The shop looked quite ordinary, just a general store, but the owner was quite interesting—wearing a samurai outfit but with a shaved head.

Ling Feng’s eyes lit up, and he immediately walked over, cupping his fists in greeting to the shopkeeper, saying, “Greetings, fellow Daoist. I have a question I’d like to ask.”

The shopkeeper appeared to be in his thirties, with a simple and honest face. His strength wasn’t very high; he hadn’t even reached the Kingdom level. Upon seeing Ling Feng bow, he immediately stood up and returned the greeting, saying, “You flatter me. What are your orders, sir?”

Ling Feng smiled and said, “You’re too kind, fellow Daoist. I’d like to do business in Buddha City, but I don’t know if shops here are available for rent.”

Hearing this, the shopkeeper’s eyes lit up, and he immediately replied, “Rent? Of course, we rent them out! Please take a look, sir…” “Follow this road forward until you reach a shop called ‘Buddhist Worship Shop,’ then turn right. Soon you’ll see a small building with a plaque that reads ‘Foreign Affairs Hall.’ Go inside and tell the people there that you want to rent a shop, and they’ll tell you how to proceed.”

Ling Feng nodded and said, “Thank you, fellow Daoist.” “You’re too kind, sir. Take care.”

Ling Feng then returned to Ling Zhu and the others, following them forward. Soon they saw the Buddhist Worship Shop, then turned right onto another street. After walking a short while, they saw a small building with a plaque that read “Foreign Affairs Hall.”

Ling Zhu and the others glanced at the building. It wasn’t large, only three stories high, but it occupied about an acre of land. The whole building looked somewhat strange, like a temple.

Lingfeng walked straight into the small building. As soon as they entered, they were taken aback because there weren’t many people in the building, and most of them were bald and dressed in samurai attire.

As soon as they entered the small building, a bald man immediately greeted them. The bald man bowed to Ling Feng and the others, saying, “Greetings, esteemed sirs. Are you all together? Is there anything I can do for you?”

Ling Feng smiled and said, “We are all together. We came today to inquire whether there are any shops for rent in the city. We would like to rent a shop to start a business.”

Upon hearing this, the bald man immediately smiled and said, “Yes, there are. Please come in, esteemed sirs.”

The small building had a large hall at the entrance, over a hundred square meters in size. Inside the hall was a counter, behind which sat a row of bald men. Several people were talking to the bald men at the counter. These people appeared to be deities, while the bald men were not particularly powerful. However, the deities treated them with great courtesy. Everyone knew that these bald men were all followers of the Golden Light Buddha. Even if you are a deity, you still have to give these bald men some face in the Buddhist city.

The bald man led Lingfeng and the others to the side, where there was a closed door. He pushed it open and went inside. Beyond the door was a corridor over twenty meters long, with windows on one side and rooms on the other, all of which had closed doors.

The bald man led Lingfeng and the others to a door, then knocked. A voice from inside said, “Come in.” The bald man opened the door and invited Lingfeng and the others inside.

Lingfeng and the others all entered the room. The house was quite large; otherwise, it wouldn’t have been able to accommodate so many people.

The room looked similar to the main hall, only much smaller. There was a counter, and three people were sitting behind it, all of whom were watching Lingfeng and the others.

At this moment, the bald man who had led Lingfeng and the others over said to the three bald men behind the counter, “These gentlemen would like to rent a shop in our city. Thank you for your help.”

The men nodded, and the bald man who had led Lingfeng and the others stepped aside. Lingfeng and the others walked to the counter, where the bald man in the middle stood up and said to them, “This way, please.” Lingfeng and the others then walked over. The man moved his hand and took out a jade slip, which he then activated. A projected map appeared on the jade slip, showing a map of Buddha City. Some areas on the map were blank, seemingly empty, but Lingfeng and the others knew that those areas were blocked because the people in the city didn’t want them to see them. The map only showed the city’s main streets, and the shops on both sides of the streets were sometimes green and sometimes red.

The bald man pointed to the red shops and said, “Gentlemen, all these red shops are vacant. You can choose freely. Each shop here is only about 20 square meters. If you feel that’s not enough, you can look at some connected shops. That way, you can combine them to make the shop bigger.”

Lingfeng and the others looked at the shops on the map. There really weren’t many vacant shops in the city, and the locations weren’t very good. Lingfeng and

the others carefully examined the locations of the shops, and then Lingfeng said, “We don’t sell many items, and we rely on word of mouth, so the location of the shop isn’t actually that important, but it can’t be too remote either. And because we don’t sell many items, the shops don’t need to be too big. What do you think of this one?” After Lingfeng finished speaking, he pointed to a location with a red shop. The shops next to that one were all rented out, leaving only that one. That shop’s location wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad either.

Lingzhu said, “It’s up to you. If you think it’s okay, then it’s fine.”

Lingfeng nodded, then asked the bald man, “How much for this shop?”

The bald man glanced at the shop’s location and replied, “One hundred cubic meters of soil, or something of equivalent value, will do.”

Lingzhu and the others were stunned by the price. It wasn’t that it was too high, but rather that it was rather low. Lingfeng asked, “Is there anything wrong with this shop? What do the shops on either side do?”

The bald man replied, “There’s nothing wrong with the shop. It used to be a general store, but the owner quit. The shops on the left…” The shop to his right had been rented out and turned into a tavern. The shop to his right was also a general store, but he opened it after the previous general store closed down.

Lingfeng nodded and said, “Can we take a look at that shop? If there are no problems, we can rent it directly.”

The bald man said, “Sure.” After saying that, he turned to the bald man who had led Lingfeng and the others and said, “You take these gentlemen to see the shop. Here, take this. If the gentlemen agree to take the shop, we’ll sign the contract with them directly, saving them the trouble of running back and forth.” As he spoke, he took out a spatial bag and gave it to the bald man.

The bald man responded, took the spatial bag, and then walked to Ling Feng and the others, gesturing for them to enter, saying, “Please, gentlemen.”

Ling Feng and the others nodded, and followed the bald man outside. He quickly led them to a shop. The shopfront wasn’t large, only about four meters wide, but it didn’t look dilapidated. To the left was a tavern called “Hidden Sun and Moon in a Pot,” and to the right was a shop called “Liu’s General Store.”

Although it wasn’t on a main street in the city, the location wasn’t remote either; it was a very nice shop. Ling Feng and the others followed the bald man into the room. The room was very clean, with wooden floors, a counter, and shelves behind it. However, it was only about twenty square meters in total, easily visible at a glance.

The front of the shop was probably for selling goods, and behind the shelves, there seemed to be a small room, but it looked like it could only be used for sleeping, not for anything else, because it was too small. Nevertheless, Ling Feng and the others were quite satisfied with the shop. (End of Chapter)
