Chapter 16415. The Magic Array

When Elder Chen and his group retreated back to the first line of defense, they finally breathed a sigh of relief. Wu Qian then met with them to learn about the situation at Qianhe Mountain and subsequently reassigned them to various bases along the first line of defense.

Meanwhile, after Elder Chen and his group had completely withdrawn from the Qianhe Mountain defense line, Chang Jun immediately ordered a thorough search of the area to ensure there were absolutely no enemy sentries. Once it was confirmed that there were no enemies at Qianhe Mountain, Chang Jun ordered the establishment of a magic array there, connecting it to the arrays in the areas they had previously occupied, thus permanently making Qianhe Mountain theirs.

Those at the first defensive line breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing that Chang Jun and his forces hadn’t attacked. Subsequently, various supplies were continuously delivered to the first defensive line. The Zhenyu Sect members were all busy setting up magic arrays at the first defensive line. However, their method differed from the Blood Slaughter Sect’s. The Blood Slaughter Sect installed magic arrays on every peak of Thousand Lotus Mountain, these arrays being pre-calculated. Once activated, the magic arrays throughout Thousand Lotus Mountain were connected to those in their previously occupied areas, forming a unified whole.

The Zhenyu Sect lacked this capability. They simply established Illusion Stone Arrays at their various bases along the first defensive line. This type of array, a combination of illusion arrays and land-solidification arrays used by the Blood Slaughter Sect, was quite powerful.

To ensure the speed of array construction, they directly created a new, large, and flat space beneath each base, making the array setup easier and faster.

After setting up the magic array, they tested it and found that it was indeed usable. Not only did it solidify the entire base’s land, but it also created various illusions. They could use these illusions to fight the Blood Slaughter Sect and inflict even greater losses on them.

Many people have a misconception that magic arrays, once built, will attack indiscriminately, friend or foe. This is incorrect. Magic arrays can distinguish friend from foe. They have the ability to record auras. As long as you can inject your own aura into the array, making it recognize you as an ally, it won’t attack you. Conversely, you can use the array to deal with enemies.

This aura is actually a trace of spiritual energy, acting like an identifier that allows the array to recognize your identity. Once the array recognizes you as an ally, it won’t attack. However, this doesn’t mean you can command the array. In fact, you are only considered an ally by the array, but you are not its commander, so you cannot command the array.

However, the illusions that appear in the magic circle are useless to you. This doesn’t mean you can’t see the illusions; on the contrary, you can see them, but they become transparent in your eyes. You can see the illusions in the magic circle, but they appear as transparent outlines to you. You can see the enemy through this outline, but the enemy cannot see you because you are inside the magic circle and are invisible to it. This is precisely the most troublesome aspect of the illusion array.

You’ve entered an illusionary array. You can’t see a single person, but in reality, you might be being watched by ten people. You can’t see them, but they can see you. Furthermore, you might see many different things within the illusionary array. Different arrays present different things. For example, in their illusionary stone array, you’ll see stones—some extra stones, but some are fake. They look like stones, but if you touch them, they’re just phantoms. Other stones are real, while some real stones are hidden by the array. The illusion and the real are blurred, making every step you take extremely cautious. This is the most terrifying aspect of illusionary arrays.

Imagine: you see nothing in front of you, but when you walk past, you suddenly bump into a stone. Or, there’s a stone in front of you, you walk around it, but suddenly a sword emerges from it and strikes you. That’s the most terrifying part.

Illusion arrays are arguably the most troublesome of all magic arrays. They are generally divided into two types: illusion arrays and illusion-killing arrays. Ordinary illusion arrays simply trap you in an illusion without directly harming you; you’re only in danger when someone inside the illusion attacks you.

Illusion-killing arrays, however, are different. They are killing arrays that can directly attack and inflict damage; their power is far greater.

However, illusion-killing arrays are extremely rare, and setting them up is incredibly complicated, requiring numerous conditions. Therefore, under normal circumstances, people almost exclusively use illusion arrays, and illusion-killing arrays are used far less frequently.

The Illusion Stone Array is an illusion array, not an Illusion Killing Array. Setting up an Illusion Killing Array is far too complicated, and generally requires a suppressing object. The higher the level of the suppressing object, the greater the power of the Illusion Killing Array. Setting up an Illusion Killing Array takes too long and requires too many materials. Most importantly, an Illusion Killing Array has a safe zone. Within this safe zone, those approved by the array can move freely. However, if you leave the safe zone, even if you are approved by the array, you will be attacked. If you are not approved by the array, there is no safe zone within the Illusion Killing Array. Therefore, if you set up an Illusion Killing Array, your range of movement will be extremely limited. Such an array is unsuitable for setting up in a base.

Illusion Killing Arrays are generally set up in cemeteries. When a cultivator dies and wants to build a tomb, if they don’t want anyone to rob their grave, they will usually set up an Illusion Killing Array within their tomb. This way, anyone attempting to rob the tomb will die within the array.

In bases like the first line of defense, it’s best to set up illusion arrays, with cultivators cooperating to kill enemies using these arrays, rather than setting up illusion-killing arrays. You can’t have all the cultivators active in the safe zone; if they leave the safe zone, they’ll be attacked by their own arrays. That’s absolutely unsuitable for use in bases.

To set up these illusion arrays in the bases as quickly as possible, the Zhenyu Sect has mobilized all its experts this time. Because the Zhenyu Sect originated from arrays, everyone in the sect must learn arrays and how to set them up. The sect’s experts are all extremely proficient in arrays. So this time, the Zhenyu Sect has sent out all its experts with the aim of completing all the arrays as quickly as possible.

While Chang Jun and his group were building their magic arrays, the Divine Kingdom was also constructing its own. This unexpected period of peace lasted for a month. During this time, Chang Jun and his group completed all the magic arrays at Thousand Lotus Mountain. Meanwhile, the Prison Suppression Sect also completed the Illusion Stone Arrays in all its bases along the first line of defense. For these arrays, all the sects, aristocratic families, and royal families in the Divine Kingdom were refining array runes—all sorts of runes. Their efforts paid off; after a month, they had finally set up all the magic arrays.

Upon hearing that all the magic arrays were complete, Gongliang Juewen and his group breathed a sigh of relief. The various families and sects also breathed a sigh of relief. While they couldn’t compare to the Blood Slaughter Sect in terms of large-scale magical artifacts, and perhaps even in the art of magic arrays, building these arrays in their bases would at least strengthen their defenses and give them a better chance of dealing with the Blood Slaughter Sect.

Of course, the Divine Kingdom has considered dealing with the Blood Slaughter Sect’s Creation Golden Wheel, but if they really want to forge a large-scale magical artifact, it will take too long. Although some of them know water-based forging techniques, these techniques also require a long preparation time. Therefore, forging a large-scale magical artifact is not an easy task.

So these days, all the sects and families are trying to find a solution. They are rummaging through old documents because they remember that there used to be a type of large-scale magical artifact that was relatively simple to forge, but it was gradually abandoned. They want to find this type of large-scale magical artifact to see if it still exists.

That day, Qingxuan was processing documents when he suddenly heard a knock at the door. He said, “Come in.”

A disciple entered, bowed, and said, “Sect Master, Elder Qingshu requests an audience.” Qingxuan

was startled, then put down his pen and immediately said, “Please let him in.” The disciple responded, bowed again, and left. Qingxuan, however, was somewhat excited. Elder Qingshu was the managing elder of their Scripture Pavilion, and Qingxuan had previously given him an order to find something capable of dealing with large magical artifacts. Now that Elder Qingshu was coming to him, did that mean he had found it? A

moment later, an elderly Taoist priest, with completely white hair and beard, entered. He wore a black Taoist robe, now covered in dust. His eyes were red, and he had large bags under his eyes, clearly indicating he hadn’t rested for many days. Yet, his eyes were bright, and his face was filled with excitement.

Upon seeing his expression, Qingxuan immediately smiled and said, “Senior Brother Qingshu, is there some good news?”

Qingshu nodded and said, “Yes, Sect Leader, I have some good news. Look, I found something.”

He then placed a book directly in front of Qingxuan. The book looked old and yellowed. Qingshu then opened the book, pointed to a page, and said to Qingxuan, “Sect Leader, look at this.” (End of Chapter)
