Chapter 16345. The Attack

“Regretful?” Lu Lingguang looked at the family heads, his face expressionless and calm. The family heads, however, remained silent.

“Actually, there’s nothing to regret. Do you think I don’t know the consequences of believing in a god? But as long as we don’t openly establish a sect, there won’t be any problems. What’s the situation now? This great war won’t end in a day or two. If we don’t use this method to quickly improve our clansmen’s strength, do you think our family will still exist after the war? I’m doing this for the sake of the family.”

The family heads’ expressions changed again. Lu Lingguang’s words pointed out a very real situation: their current predicament. If they worried about the divine kingdom settling scores with them for joining a sect, they had to prepare for the annihilation of their families. In this great war, small families like theirs could be wiped out at any time. Therefore, they had to make a decision now: join a sect to improve the strength of their family members, but risk being purged after the war; or not join a sect and maintain the status quo, but with a high probability of being destroyed. They had to make a decision.

The expressions on their faces changed several times before one of the family heads finally spoke, “Won’t we be discovered?” His question attracted the attention of the other family heads, who understood his meaning. Improving their family disciples’ strength in a short time would easily be discovered, and once discovered, they would be finished.

Lu Lingguang shook his head and said, “It won’t be discovered. The omniscient and omnipotent god only enhances our potential, not our actual strength. It only speeds up our cultivation, not directly increases our power. Just like today, our family disciples broke through during battle, not when they arrived here already being that strong. Most importantly, their strength will continue to increase, not stop.”

Hearing Lu Lingguang’s words, the family heads’ eyes lit up. Lu Lingguang looked at them, then glanced outside, and continued, “Do you know when I became a believer in a god?”

The family heads were all stunned, then looked at Lu Lingguang. Lu Lingguang turned and glanced at them, then said, “When our entire family was transferred to a market town to guard it, it was only then that I began to believe in the gods. Because I knew very well that we were essentially abandoned people. If we didn’t do everything we could to save ourselves, then our entire family would be finished.” Upon

hearing this, the men were all stunned, and then their expressions changed. Their family’s situation was the same as Lu’s, so they deeply empathized with what Lu Lingguang was saying.

Lu Lingguang glanced at the group and then said, “Don’t think too much about it. Survival is the most important thing. We can worry about the future later. Right now, the most important thing is to survive.”

The family heads exchanged glances, then nodded simultaneously. One of them asked, “What should we do?”

Lu Lingguang moved his hand, and a statue appeared in his palm. He then said to the family heads, “Come with me to pay homage to the gods, and then you can return to your homes and have your families also convert to the gods.”

The family heads exchanged glances, then nodded simultaneously and knelt down before the statue with Lu Lingguang. Just as Lu Lingguang said, their most important thing now was to survive. As for the punishment they would receive for converting to the gods, that was a matter for later. Preserving their lives was paramount; if they lost their lives, everything would be over.

After the family heads met the God of Creation and became his followers, they left that space and returned directly to their families. Their families, of course, were to spread their teachings themselves; if Lu Lingguang were to go, he would be quickly discovered.

Meanwhile, the other divine kingdom received news of the attack on their base, making them even more anxious. However, as they had anticipated, many rogue cultivators, upon hearing that helping them in the attack would earn them membership in a sect, were indeed tempted and agreed to join the battle. They began to gather at the front lines. Soon

, the number of people at the base increased dramatically. The Lu family members, at this point, became less conspicuous; at least compared to the rogue cultivators, their status was much higher.

After the Blood Slaughter Sect’s initial attack on their base, they did not attack again, while the number of people at the front lines continued to grow, quickly exceeding five million. This number wasn’t actually that high, but it was significantly more than before.

With so many people, their current base was becoming insufficient. General Li summoned Fang Wuwei and Lü Xiaofang to him once again. After they arrived, General Li looked at them and said, “You should know about the Divine Kingdom’s plan, so I won’t go into details. Now that many rogue cultivators have arrived here, our base is no longer enough to house them. I think it’s time to launch an attack on the enemy. What do you think?”

Both men nodded; they didn’t object to the attack. Fang Wuwei said, “We really should expand our territory. When should we attack?”

General Li thought for a moment and then said, “Let’s attack the day after tomorrow. These two days are a good time to reorganize those rogue cultivators. We need to let them know what their next task is. When you go back, you need to make it clear to those rogue cultivators that their task is not to kill a certain number of enemies, but to destroy the enemy’s underground fortifications. As long as they can destroy the enemy’s underground fortifications, they will have made a great contribution.”

The two men responded again. They also knew what the rogue cultivators’ task was. To be honest, they still attached great importance to the task of those rogue cultivators, because what troubled them the most right now was the enemy’s underground fortifications.

General Li began, “Of the five million people on the front lines, more than half are independent cultivators. How many will survive this attack is uncertain. However, one thing is crucial: these independent cultivators absolutely cannot all die. A few must be spared as cannon fodder.”

Upon hearing this, Fang Wuwei and Lü Xiaofang immediately understood General Li’s meaning. These independent cultivators were essentially cannon fodder. Moreover, the various sects and families hadn’t offered them any substantial benefits; they’d only offered empty promises. It’s like the Americans telling some people, “Join our army! After a few years of fighting, you can get a green card and even become a real American.” It’s all empty promises, yet many still join the American army.

These independent cultivators are the same. The sects and families have offered them a promise: help them attack the enemy. If they can destroy the enemy’s underground fortifications, they can join a sect or family.

Those rogue cultivators were so eager to join sects or aristocratic families that they came here, completely unaware that few of them would return alive. Perhaps they knew, but they all harbored wishful thinking, believing themselves to be the lucky one.

General Li and his men finished discussing the attack and then dispersed. They began preparations, and over the next two days, people continued to arrive at the front lines, mostly rogue cultivators, making the camp increasingly chaotic.

Unlike sect or aristocratic disciples, rogue cultivators were not disciplined. When they gathered, they would cause trouble, and the cramped living conditions only exacerbated their irritability, leading to a surge in conflicts at the base recently.

However, the rogue cultivators received notice that their attack would begin soon, and General Li and his men formed patrol teams. These patrols consisted entirely of members from various sects, aristocratic families, or the military. Anyone caught causing trouble was killed on sight, and after several such incidents, the rogue cultivators calmed down.

Two days later, the time for the attack finally arrived. General Li stood in the command hall of his massive magical artifact, glanced at his generals, then at the map, and said, “Remember, today’s target is Qingyuan City. Move out.”

Everyone responded, and the army set off immediately, charging straight towards Qingyuan City. The reason they chose Qingyuan City was because it was a large city, capable of housing over a million people. Moreover, its geographical location was extremely important. Controlling this city would allow them to suppress, or even control, the dozen or so smaller cities and dozens of sects of varying sizes surrounding it. Therefore, if they could capture it… Qingyuan City would not only be a stronghold for them, but a crucial one. In fact, capturing Qingyuan City would give them a de facto strategic advantage in the region, making them more proactive while putting the enemy more passive. Therefore, after discussion, General Li and his team decided to target Qingyuan City. They were willing to pay any price to take it. Once they captured Qingyuan City, things would be much easier. They could use it as a crucial base, allowing them to launch attacks on the surrounding dozen or so small cities and dozens of sects at any time. Therefore, Qingyuan City was extremely important.

Although General Li was now a disciple of the Blood Slaughter Sect, Chang Jun had told him to consider himself a general of the Divine Kingdom, not a disciple of the Blood Slaughter Sect. Therefore, General Li didn’t consider the Blood Slaughter Sect’s interests; he genuinely saw himself as a frontline commander formulating the battle plan.

Of course, after they made their decision, General Li told Gongliang Juewen directly about it, and Gongliang Juewen told Chang Jun about their plan. As for how Chang Jun would arrange things, that was none of their business. However, they believed that Chang Jun and his team would make the arrangements. As for what those arrangements would be, Gongliang Juewen and his team did not know.
