Chapter 16005: Encountering Danger

Yang Qingyu emerged from his room. He didn’t linger at the outer gate but headed straight for the market. Soon he arrived and went inside a grain shop called Yangji Grain Shop.

The shop sold two types of grain: ordinary grain, for independent cultivators and commoners, and spirit rice, usually for large families. Ordinary grain was on the first floor, while spirit rice was on the second. As

soon as Yang Qingyu entered, the shopkeepers saw him. One of the shop assistants, who looked to be in his twenties, smiled and said, “Qingyu’s here. Your father’s in the backyard.”

The speaker was Yang Qinghe, of the same generation as Yang Qingyu. He had failed to reach the required level a few years ago and had come here as a shop assistant. If Yang Qingyu also failed to reach the required level in a few days, he would likely end up like him; they were both members of the Yang family.

Yang Qingyu’s father, Yang Yonggang, was a manager at the grain store. He was in charge of ordinary grain, so there wasn’t much profit to be made, and his earnings were just enough for his family to live on.

Yang Qingyu had been a frequent customer there before, so Yang Qinghe already knew him. After thanking him, Yang Qingyu went to the backyard, which was a large courtyard with several sheds. Inside the sheds were some grain sacks, and a middle-aged man in his forties was counting them, holding a pen and a notebook, constantly making notes.

Upon seeing the middle-aged man, Yang Qingyu immediately greeted him, “Father.”

The middle-aged man turned and looked at him. Seeing Yang Qingyu, a smile immediately appeared on his face. He then said, “Qingyu, what brings you here?”

Yang Qingyu quickly replied, “

I had nothing to do today, so I came to see you.” “What’s there to see? Just focus on your cultivation and strive to reach the Qi level. Then your father can finally hold his head high with you.”

“I know, Father. I will definitely reach the Qi level.” In the past, Yang Qingyu might have felt a little hesitant saying this, but now he felt no hesitation at all.

Hearing Yang Qingyu’s words, Yang Yonggang couldn’t help but smile as well. He then said with a smile, “Good, cultivate diligently. Here, I have a few spirit stones here; take them.” Yang Yonggang knew that Yang Qingyu’s talent wasn’t particularly outstanding, but he still hoped that Yang Qingyu would cultivate diligently; this was his hope.

Yang Qingyu immediately waved his hand and said, “No need, Father. As long as you’re alright, I’ll be going now. I need to go back to cultivate.” He then walked out. Yang Yonggang called him once, but he didn’t turn around. Yang Yonggang stopped calling him, glanced at his retreating figure, a slight smile appearing on his face, and then turned back to count the grain.

Yang Qingyu didn’t return to his room but headed towards the Yang family’s territory.

The Yang family owned a small town in the Shangyang Sect, almost entirely inhabited by members of the Yang family. This was the Yang family’s ancestral home, and as the family’s population grew, it became a small town.

Yang Qingyu stood outside the Yang family’s small town, staring at the city walls for a long time without moving. Then he turned and returned to his room. Once inside, he went straight to his meditation room. He sat there, quietly thinking about the Yang family’s small town, and also about Yang Dingtian. His jealousy grew stronger and stronger. He remained in the meditation room until nightfall before finally returning to his room to rest.

The next morning, he continued his cultivation, and once again received a reward. He chose to improve his talent again, and while cultivating, he discovered that one day of cultivation now was equivalent to twenty days of cultivation before. This made Yang Qingyu even happier; he knew he had chosen the right method.

Then he began practicing his sword. After finishing his cultivation, he came out of his room and headed to the outer sect disciple management office. He needed to go there to accept a mission. Although he was a member of the Yang family, and the family gave him a certain allowance every year, that amount of spirit stones was far from enough for him. Therefore, he had to do sect missions. This was the reality of some large families. When a family became too large, they would concentrate most of their resources on a few talented disciples, while ordinary family disciples like Yang Qingyu received very little.

Yang Qingyu usually accepts short-term tasks, ideally completed within a day or two, such as searching for herbs in the wild. Although large sects like Shangyang Sect have their own medicinal herb fields, some herbs have high environmental requirements and can only be collected wild. The alchemists might not personally collect them, so they assign these tasks to outer disciples. These tasks are less dangerous, can be completed quickly without affecting the outer disciples’ cultivation, and allow them to earn spirit stones, so many outer disciples accept such tasks.

Yang Qingyu arrived at the outer disciple management office and went directly to the task board. He found a very simple task: go to Shouyang Mountain and find Rejuvenating Grass. Rejuvenating

Grass isn’t a particularly rare herb; it’s plentiful on Shouyang Mountain. However, this herb has a very high soil requirement, making it difficult to cultivate. Furthermore, it’s not abundant, so Shangyang Sect doesn’t cultivate it themselves; they simply go up the mountain to collect it when needed.

Yang Qingyu immediately accepted the mission. After registering it at the mission desk, he went directly to Shouyang Mountain. Shouyang Mountain wasn’t far from their area, only a little over a hundred li away. Although Yang Qingyu didn’t fly there, he used his lightness technique and arrived at Shouyang Mountain in no time.

The reason Yang Qingyu accepted the mission was because he knew Shouyang Mountain and knew exactly where the Rejuvenating Herb was, making the mission very simple for him.

Upon arriving at the foot of Shouyang Mountain, Yang Qingyu let out a long breath, glanced at the mountain, and then found a rock to sit on. While resting, he thought about the small town of the Yang family and Yang Dingtian. Yang Dingtian had never done any of this. From the moment he was born, he had been the focus of the Yang family’s attention; he could never have done such work. Yet, he was also a member of the Yang family, and he had to do this kind of work. How unfair fate was!

After resting for half an hour, Yang Qingyu began his ascent. Upon reaching the top, he reaffirmed his direction and headed straight there. After another hour or so, he arrived at a small valley. The valley wasn’t large, but it appeared quite deep, dark and impenetrable.

Yang Qingyu entered the valley directly. It wasn’t dangerous, as it wasn’t considered a deep mountain, and there were no demonic beasts.

In the valley, there was a small pool of water, with a layer of white mist that lingered above it for years. Yang Qingyu knew the water was extremely cold; putting your hand in it would freeze, yet it never actually froze—a very strange phenomenon.

Yang Qingyu had initially thought there was something special or a treasure in the pool, but after inquiring, he learned it was just an ordinary cold pool with no treasures. Many people in the Shangyang Sect knew about this cold pool, and some had even tried to fish in it, but to no avail. So, gradually, no one paid any attention to it anymore. However, Yang Qingyu knew that there was a large patch of Rejuvenating Grass around the pool, and that’s why he came.

He quickly arrived at the pool and glanced at it. The pool was still the same as before. He then immediately looked around and indeed found a large amount of Rejuvenating Grass. Without hesitation, he immediately went to collect the grass. This time, his task wasn’t just one or two pieces of Rejuvenating Grass, but a full hundred catties, which was why he was collecting it.

Just as he was gathering the Rejuvenating Herb, a flash of green light suddenly appeared from the grass, shooting straight towards Yang Qingyu. Completely unaware that something alive was in the grass, Yang Qingyu couldn’t dodge the green light, which struck his shoulder directly. He felt a numbness in his shoulder and turned to see a small green snake biting his shoulder. Startled, he was about to swat it away when the snake darted back into the grass and disappeared.

Yang Qingyu immediately checked his shoulder, and his expression changed drastically. He saw two clear teeth marks on his shoulder, surrounded by a bluish-green tinge.

Yang Qingyu immediately realized that the snake was venomous. He quickly took out a porcelain bottle, opened it, poured out a pill, and prepared to put it in his mouth. However, he soon discovered that the arm where the snake had bitten him was completely numb and unresponsive. He was shocked; he hadn’t expected the snake’s venom to be so potent. He quickly used his other hand to throw the pill into his mouth. He then poured out another pill and put it in his mouth as well. He realized that the medicine was very strong, so he couldn’t just take one pill. The pills he was using were just ordinary antidotes; while they could neutralize many poisons, they weren’t very effective against particularly potent ones. That’s why he took two.

Even so, he still felt half of his body begin to go numb, causing Yang Qingyu’s expression to change drastically. He knew very well that he could no longer return to his sect to seek help, and the antidote didn’t seem to be very effective against this poison. This discovery filled Yang Qingyu with despair. He was truly unwilling to accept it; was he going to die here? He had just had a fortuitous encounter and was about to soar to great heights; was he really going to die here? He was unwilling, he was truly unwilling.

Just then, he suddenly thought, “That’s right, I had a fortuitous encounter, so could I ask the God of Jealousy to help me detoxify?” With this thought, he immediately sat down with difficulty, closed his eyes, and entered that space.
