Bringing The Farm To Live In Another World - Chapter 15990
Chapter 15988: Exchange
Once that guy managed to escape underground, he could use the Earth Travel Talisman to travel in any direction at incredible speed. Catching him would be virtually impossible. Underground, visibility would be severely reduced, and even spiritual sense would be greatly affected. Under these circumstances, capturing him would be utterly impossible.
But then, an unexpected event occurred. The man landed on the ground, unable to escape underground. This surprised everyone. Before they could even process what had happened, their weapons were already upon him. The man clearly hadn’t expected to fail to escape underground. He was momentarily stunned, and in that brief moment, their weapons were already in front of him. Although he immediately raised his curved sword to defend himself, he was outnumbered. Several long swords pierced his body, and he coughed up blood. He looked around in disbelief, a resolute glint in his eyes.
Those who attacked him were all seasoned veterans. After plunging their weapons into the man’s body, they immediately withdrew them and retreated. Everyone else followed suit. Some, unaware of the reason for their retreat, simply followed suit. They didn’t know why they were retreating, but they soon realized what was happening when the man’s body suddenly swelled up and exploded with a loud bang.
Huo Lei, having retreated to the side, breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing the man explode. He muttered, “The Heavenly Demon Disintegration Technique. Almost all these demonic sect members know this move. Even if they seem about to die, you must get away immediately, or you’ll be in danger.”
Wu Lingfeng nodded with lingering fear. He truly hadn’t expected this. He had never dealt with demonic sect members before, and his reaction was a little slow. However, seeing Huo Lei and the others retreat, he immediately retreated as well, thankfully without revealing any opening.
After the explosion, the ground remained intact. A curved blade was embedded in the wall of a nearby house. At the epicenter of the explosion, there was a patch of radioactive blood radiating outwards, but the ground itself was unharmed.
Huo Lei and his group returned to the explosion’s epicenter. They first glanced at the ground with curiosity, then one of the cultivators turned to look at Wu Lingfeng, and then bowed to him, saying, “Fellow martial artist, you’ve used your skill! You saw he was going to escape and immediately used a Steel Earth Talisman. If it weren’t for that talisman, he might have really gotten away.”
The others then realized that the man hadn’t been able to escape underground because Wu Lingfeng had used a Steel Earth Talisman. This type of talisman is the nemesis of Earth Escape Talismans and can also be used to create temporary cave dwellings in the mountains or underground. Many independent cultivators carry several as spares.
Wu Lingfeng had used a Steel Earth Talisman to harden the ground like steel, preventing the man from escaping underground.
Upon hearing this, Wu Lingfeng laughed and said, “No, no, I was just worried he might use an earth-遁符 (earth-遁符 is a type of talisman used for escaping), so I prepared in advance. If he wanted to go through the air, we could still chase him, but if he went through the ground, we wouldn’t be able to catch him. So I prepared for this move, and I didn’t expect it to actually work.”
Everyone burst into laughter upon hearing this, and one cultivator even said, “Good, excellent! Fellow Daoist Wu’s move has rid us of a menace. I think we should give this magic weapon to Fellow Daoist Wu. What do you all think?” As he spoke, he pointed to the curved blade on the wall.
Although the scimitar was a demonic artifact, it was indeed a decent one, made of good materials. Even if Wu Lingfeng didn’t use it, it could fetch a good price. The cultivator, besides the scimitar, left nothing else behind. He might have had a spatial bag, but that was likely destroyed in the explosion. Therefore, the scimitar was the only thing he left behind. And since Wu Lingfeng had indeed performed a great service, that’s why the cultivator made this suggestion.
Everyone around nodded; no one objected. They all felt that giving the artifact to Wu Lingfeng was perfectly reasonable. They were independent cultivators, but independent cultivators were often the most disciplined.
Seeing that everyone around him agreed, Wu Lingfeng didn’t stand on ceremony. He clasped his hands in a fist salute and said, “Thank you all. However, I’m not skilled with a sword. My sword was damaged during my fight with that person. If any fellow Daoist who wields a sword takes a fancy to this magical artifact, you can take it. Just give me a decent sword.” Wu Lingfeng needed a sword right now; the sword was truly useless to him.
Upon hearing this, everyone’s hearts stirred. Some were genuinely interested in the curved sword. Although they hadn’t fought that person for long, the curved sword he wielded against Huo Lei and Wu Lingfeng had remained gleaming like new for so long. They knew the curved sword must be extraordinary, and having such a sword would certainly enhance their strength.
Unfortunately, most people didn’t know how to use a curved sword. The use of a curved sword is different from that of a regular sword, so although they wanted it, they hesitated because they didn’t know how.
Just then, a voice rang out, “I have a longsword for you to examine, fellow martial artist. If you like it, I’ll take it.” With that, a somewhat thin cultivator in his forties stepped forward. With a flick of his wrist, a longsword appeared in his hand. This longsword was strange; it was entirely green and resembled a bamboo shoot. The man drew the sword, and its blade, like autumn water, gleamed coldly under the illumination of the spell.
Wu Lingfeng didn’t stand on ceremony, accepting the longsword from the man with both hands. He drew it and examined it closely. He noticed that the blade wasn’t very thick or heavy, but when he held it and gave it a slight shake, it trembled like a serpent. A bright light danced along the blade with each movement, a beautiful sight.
Wu Lingfeng couldn’t help but praise, “A fine sword! Excellent! Thank you, fellow Daoist.” He then sheathed the sword. The man laughed heartily, “You’re welcome, you’re welcome.” With a flick of his wrist, he took the curved sword from the wall, gently stroking its blade with a satisfied expression before sheathing it.
The surrounding people, seeing this, didn’t say anything, but everyone was in good spirits. After all, the sword hanging over their heads had disappeared, and they could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Huo Lei then laughed heartily, “Everyone, our cooperation this time has been a great success. We’ve finally rid this scourge of our lives. How about we go to that tavern for a drink? Although I, Old Huo, don’t have many spirit stones, I can still afford to treat each table to a pot of wine.”
Hearing this, everyone burst into laughter, and then one shouted, “Great! Old Huo is so generous! We’ll take advantage of him this time!” With that, they flew straight to the tavern, and soon they were all inside. The tavern was instantly packed with people, bustling with activity.
The tavern owner was overjoyed. Upon hearing that Huo Lei was going to treat everyone at each table to a pot of wine, he immediately smiled and said, “Alright, it’s rare for Old Huo to be so generous, so I’ll be generous too. Old Huo, I’ll give each table a 40% discount on the wine you bring, and also a small dish for each table. That’s my small token of appreciation.”
The crowd cheered again. Then the tavern staff began serving wine and dishes, and everyone laughed and talked loudly. Getting rid of that guy had made everyone very happy, and since they had just fought together, they felt their relationship had improved even more. So everyone laughed and talked loudly, showing their closer bond.
Huo Lei didn’t stay at his own table, but instead picked up his wine glass and frequently went to other tables, chatting and laughing with the people there. Clearly, through this incident, he had become very familiar with those people.
Wu Lingfeng and Li Tong were drinking there. The rest of the Green Wolf Gang members had already gone home. The tavern wasn’t very big and couldn’t hold everyone, so those who came this time were all gang leaders and their confidants; the others had naturally all gone home.
Wu Lingfeng and Li Tong chatted as they drank, when the tavern owner came over with a glass of wine. He raised his glass to Wu Lingfeng and said, “Fellow Daoist Wu, I’ve heard everything about your situation. You deserve the most credit for dealing with that scourge. Here, let me toast you.” Wu Lingfeng quickly stood up,
picked up his glass, and smiled, “You’re too kind, sir.” He clinked glasses with the owner, drank his wine in one gulp, and then the two of them toasted each other, laughing heartily. Then the owner said to Wu Lingfeng, “Fellow Daoist Wu, please enjoy your drink. I’ll go get the others.” “Let’s have a drink over there.” After saying that, he clasped his hands in a fist salute to Wu Lingfeng, who immediately returned the salute. However, in the instant the shop owner turned around, Wu Lingfeng noticed a mark on the shop owner’s wrist. His eyes narrowed for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure and sat down to talk to Li Tong. His change in expression was so brief that no one noticed. The shop owner then went to other tables to offer drinks. The people in the tavern got to know each other for more than an hour before the gathering ended, and everyone left the tavern.
After everyone left the tavern, Huo Lei let out a long sigh as he walked towards the courtyard, saying, “Finally, we’ve dealt with that guy. Now I can finally get a good night’s sleep.”
Wu Lingfeng said, “Boss Huo, I think we should still assign someone to keep watch at night from now on. Even though we’re removing one person, we should still keep some. Otherwise, if something really happens in the future, we’ll end up like the Iron Fist Gang. So we should be careful.”
Huo Lei thought for a moment, then nodded and said, “Okay, then we’ll keep one person on watch at night.”
