Chapter 15972 Revenge

A moment later, the door opened, and Wu Lingfeng opened his eyes. The other person also opened his eyes. Wu Lingfeng remained seated, while the other person spoke first, looking at the cultivator who entered and asking, “What is it?”

The cultivator glanced at the two of them. Since the other person had spoken first, he walked up to him and said, “Register. I reached the ‘Power Level’ today.”

The other person nodded, then immediately asked the cultivator’s age, gave him a new identity card, and let him leave. Throughout the entire process, the other person didn’t speak to Wu Lingfeng.

Wu Lingfeng sat there quietly, watching. He understood the other person’s meaning. These people also had to consider performance. If someone registered many disciples each month, they would receive a certain reward. Although the reward wasn’t much, it wasn’t insignificant for them. That’s why the other person wasn’t giving him a friendly look—because his arrival had taken away the other person’s performance. That’s why the other person was behaving this way.

Although Wu Lingfeng was somewhat angry, there was nothing he could do. The other party had only given him a cold shoulder and was simply handling a normal transaction. He couldn’t do anything about it, since it was the other party who had greeted the disciple who came in first, and that disciple had chosen him. His anger was pointless.

Wu Lingfeng sulked, sitting quietly waiting for the next person to arrive. Unfortunately, their work sometimes only allowed them to serve a few people a month, as there were only so many outer disciples in the sect, and not every outer disciple could become a powerful cultivator.

So, apart from the person who came in that morning, no one else came in that day. Wu Lingfeng and the other person didn’t exchange a single word all day. It wasn’t until evening that Wu Lingfeng returned to his room, still increasingly angry, but there was nothing he could do.

The next day, Wu Lingfeng went to work as usual, but the other person still wouldn’t speak to him. They did receive two people that day, but those two people still went to the other person to register. Wu Lingfeng was puzzled; why, even though he had greeted the two disciples, did they still choose that person?

Five days passed like this. Wu Lingfeng went to work every day for those five days, but no one registered. This made Wu Lingfeng very angry. In those five days, more than a dozen disciples came to register, reaching the “power level,” but not a single one came to him. This puzzled Wu Lingfeng greatly, and he decided to investigate to see what was going on.

After returning to his room, Wu Lingfeng kept a close eye on the movements outside. Soon, no one was outside, so Wu Lingfeng used an invisibility spell on himself and carefully walked out of his room.

Once outside, Wu Lingfeng walked towards a small building. The cultivator who shared a room with him lived in this building. He carefully made his way upstairs. His invisibility technique worked quite well; he could move without being detected, but he couldn’t fight or use magic, otherwise the invisibility would disappear.

Wu Lingfeng quickly reached the cultivator’s door. He listened for any sounds from inside, but there was no movement. Wu Lingfeng stood there quietly, waiting to see if the cultivator would come out or if he could hear what the cultivator was doing.

A short while later, Wu Lingfeng saw the person from his office return from outside. This surprised Wu Lingfeng, but he stepped aside and watched the person enter the room. He then waited outside for about an hour, but the person didn’t come out again. Wu Lingfeng then returned to his own room.

The next day, Wu Lingfeng went to work again, but no one came to register. The two sat quietly in the office all day. When it was time for them to leave, Wu Lingfeng, as usual, left the room first. However, once outside, he immediately used an invisibility spell on himself and waited quietly.

A short while later, the cultivator came out of the office. Wu Lingfeng followed him, convinced that the man was up to something; otherwise, it was impossible for no disciples to register.

Wu Lingfeng followed the man until they arrived at a small tavern. The man went inside, and Wu Lingfeng followed. Seeing the man find a seat, Wu Lingfeng stood behind him. Because he was invisible and the spot was secluded, Wu Lingfeng wasn’t worried about being discovered. He stood there quietly, determined to follow this man and see what he was up to.

A moment later, two outer disciples walked in from outside. They quickly approached the man and said, “Brother Hao.”

Wu Lingfeng then realized that the person in his office was surnamed Hao. Brother Hao nodded and said, “Sit down, don’t be shy.” The two men responded and sat down.

Soon, the waiter brought the food and wine. Brother Hao said to the two men, “Eat up. I really need to thank you both these past few days. If it weren’t for your help, I wouldn’t have been able to get everyone to come and register with me.”

One of the two disciples spoke up, “Brother Hao, is it worth it? Even if they all register with you, you won’t have much prize money by the end of the month, right?”

Brother Hao snorted and said, “Worth it, of course it’s worth it. If it weren’t for him, all the prize money would be mine every month, adding up to quite a lot. As long as I can get rid of him, all the future prize money will be mine, right? Besides, we didn’t do anything special, just gave those disciples a heads-up beforehand, it’s nothing.”

Both disciples nodded, and then one of them asked, “Brother Hao, can we really get rid of that guy?”

Brother Hao snorted and said, “Definitely. That guy’s appearance is very strange. How did he suddenly appear? I’m sure he’s not from this area. If he were from our area…” “If he were a powerful expert from this area, I would know it. And just by looking at his age, I knew he couldn’t be from here. He has that old-timer vibe too strong. He must have been a powerful cultivator long ago, but because he couldn’t advance further, he became a manager. But in that case, he couldn’t be from this area. You two, when you get back, find out if any powerful cultivators from other areas have left recently. If you find out, come and tell me immediately.”

The two men quickly agreed. Brother Hao then said, “Come on, eat something. Don’t worry, as long as we can get rid of him, you’ll get your share of the benefits.”

The two men agreed and started eating. Brother Hao only drank a few cups of wine. The three chatted for a while before finishing their meal and leaving.

Wu Lingfeng stood there listening to them, but his eyes were filled with rage. He was determined to get revenge on this guy.

Thinking of this, Wu Lingfeng went outside. After looking around, he walked into the nearby woods, cut down a branch, and made it into a stick. Then he went to the street and bought a cloth bag—a common cloth bag suitable for carrying food and other small items. After preparing these, Wu Lingfeng quickly went to Hao Ge’s small building, then became invisible again. He waited there. Hao Ge and the others hadn’t been gone for long, and he moved quickly, figuring Hao Ge might not have returned to his room yet.

So he waited for him in front of Hao Ge’s door. Sure enough, he had only waited a short while when Hao Ge leisurely returned. Qingyang Sect was generally quite safe, so they hadn’t been on guard.

Hao Ge slowly walked to his door, opened it, and was about to enter when he suddenly felt a sharp pain all over his body. He found himself unable to move; even his spiritual energy had been sealed. Then everything went black as a cloth bag was placed over his head, and he was pushed into the room and collapsed to the ground.

He couldn’t see what was happening; everything was pitch black. Just then, Hao Ge felt a sharp pain, as if someone was hitting him with a wooden stick. He felt the stick raining down on him, but he couldn’t make a sound; he could only endure it.

After a while, he heard a cracking sound; his arm seemed to break, and the stick seemed to break as well. Only then did the assailant stop, tossing the stick aside before leaving the room and closing the door behind them.

Hao Ge lay on the ground, enduring excruciating pain, his teeth clenched in fury. He was certain that Wu Lingfeng was the one who had attacked him. He had no grudges against anyone else except Wu Lingfeng, so it had to be Wu Lingfeng who had attacked him this time.

He truly hadn’t expected Wu Lingfeng to do this to him. He was so angry his teeth itched, but he was powerless to do anything but wait quietly. He knew that the other party had only sealed his cultivation, and he would recover soon.

Sure enough, an hour later, he recovered. Once he recovered, he immediately used his other arm, which wasn’t hurting as much, to remove the cloth bag from his head. Then he glanced around the room and found that nothing had changed. Still a little uneasy, he checked again with his divine sense. After confirming that there was no one else around, he breathed a sigh of relief. Then he struggled to his feet, his eyes seemingly spitting fire. He glanced at the broken wooden stick lying to the side and the ordinary cloth bag… He was even angrier. Gritting his teeth, he muttered, “You just wait, Wu Lingfeng, I’ll make you pay.”

He really hadn’t expected Wu Lingfeng to retaliate like this. Wu Lingfeng hadn’t argued with him, but instead retaliated in this way. He understood why Wu Lingfeng did this, because the sect usually wouldn’t investigate too much if they did it this way. First, he hadn’t lost anything, and second, his injuries weren’t serious. Under these circumstances, the sect wouldn’t care who beat him up unless the two of them made a big fuss. Otherwise, the matter would most likely just fade away.
