Chapter 15940 Gluttony

An ordinary person might have mistaken the rustling sound for their own footsteps, but Ran Wen didn’t think so. He was certain that his own footsteps weren’t making that sound; it was coming from something else. Ran Wen’s expression changed, and then he took a deep breath. With a thought, he suddenly released his divine sense, scanning his surroundings.

Cultivators all possess divine sense, but if one’s strength is insufficient, while divine sense can be projected, it cannot extend very far or for very long. Therefore, Ran Wen hadn’t released his divine sense earlier. If he released it for too long, his head would throb with pain, and if that happened, he probably wouldn’t survive long in this Seven Emotions Forest.

Not long after he released his divine sense, he noticed a snake behind a large tree to his left. The rustling sound was likely coming from that snake, as it was closest to him.

Ran Wen immediately focused his divine sense on the snake, but he was stunned when he saw it. The snake’s appearance was extremely strange; it had a very large belly, which was very rare among snakes.

Normally, snakes are slender, although they can sometimes have large bellies when they’ve eaten something large. After swallowing it whole, their bellies become large, and snakes that have eaten a lot usually stay in one place to slowly digest their food, not moving around freely.

But the snake Ran Wen encountered this time was very different. This snake had a large belly, yet it was still moving, and Ran Wen also noticed that the snake seemed to be looking at him, as if it considered him prey.

This was even more abnormal. Normally, snakes only attack what they can swallow, and Ran Wen was a grown man, quite large. The snake was about the thickness of an arm, making it impossible for him to swallow him whole. Moreover, he didn’t seem to have trespassed on the snake’s territory. Under these circumstances, the snake usually wouldn’t attack him. But now, the snake seemed to have a strong desire to attack him. What was going on?

Thinking this, Ran Wen suddenly moved, leaping directly onto the tree. He grabbed a branch, flipped over, and landed on the other side of the tree. From this position, he could see the snake perfectly, and he was directly above it.

The snake was about two zhang long, about the thickness of an arm, but its belly was enormous, completely disproportionate to its size.

Just as Ran Wen was looking at the giant snake, the snake seemed to see him too. It raised its head and stared at Ran Wen. For some reason, Ran Wen saw a greedy glint in the snake’s eyes. The next moment, the snake lunged at Ran Wen.

Ran Wen was taken aback, then immediately swung his sword. His swordsmanship was actually quite good; among the outer disciples, his strength was considered considerable. The reason he had been injured before was because those who challenged him were all stronger than him, which was why he was injured. His injury did not mean his strength was weak.

Ran Wen’s sword was extremely fast. The snake’s head was just in front of the sword, and Ran Wen severed the snake’s head in one stroke.

The snake’s head flew off, while its body fell to the ground, writhing and twisting in a very strange way. Ran Wen stood on the tree, watching the giant snake’s body below. After a while, the snake finally stopped moving. Ran Wen walked directly to the snake’s corpse and slashed it open with his sword. What he revealed inside made Ran Wen pause in surprise: inside the snake’s seemingly large belly was a statue. Ran

Wen was stunned. The snake wasn’t stupid; why would it swallow a statue? Statues aren’t edible, and ordinary snakes wouldn’t swallow them. This was quite strange.

Ran Wen glanced around and then saw the snake’s head. He walked over and severed the snake’s head, but its mouth remained open, looking rather frightening.

Ran Wen flicked his sword, striking the giant snake’s head. The snake’s mouth snapped shut instantly—a snake’s ability to keep its mouth closed for a considerable time after its head is severed. Anyone unaware of this and approaching the snake’s head immediately afterward risked being bitten.

Now that the snake’s mouth was closed, Ran Wen ignored it and returned to the snake’s corpse. He had just examined it; there were no wounds on the snake’s mouth, and its teeth were intact. It didn’t seem like someone had stuffed the statue into its mouth; the snake had swallowed it itself. Ran

Wen was now even more curious. He wanted to know why the snake had swallowed the statue. He carefully moved the statue aside with his sword, then cast a cleansing spell, instantly cleaning the statue. Ran Wen then approached the statue and examined it closely.

The statue was quite peculiar. It depicted a very large, obese man sitting in a chair, holding a piece of meat and putting it into his mouth, which was wide open as if it were a bottomless pit.

The statue wasn’t complex, but strangely, it deeply attracted Ran Wen’s attention. Ran Wen seemed to be frozen in place, staring intently at the statue.

After a while, Ran Wen’s eyes flickered, as if he had suddenly come to his senses. He glanced around, then at the statue in his hand. With a flick of his wrist, he stored the statue in his spatial storage. The next moment, his gaze fell on the snake carcass beside him. He hadn’t liked the snake carcass before, finding it somewhat disgusting, but now, seeing it, his mouth involuntarily began to salivate. What had previously seemed repulsive now appeared incredibly delicious to him. A voice slowly rose in his mind, saying, “Eat it, eat it, eat it.”

This voice slowly devoured Ran Wen’s reason. Greed gleamed in Ran Wen’s eyes, and then, like a wild dog, he pounced on the snake’s corpse. He picked it up and shoved it into his mouth, ignoring the fact that the snake was covered in blood and still alive, and kept biting and chewing on it like a starving beast.

He ate very quickly, as if the snake carcass were a delicacy. Although his face was covered in blood, he didn’t care at all. He didn’t even leave the snake’s bones behind, chewing them up and swallowing them whole.

In less than an hour, Ran Wen had eaten the entire snake carcass, including its head. The strange thing was that although Ran Wen had eaten the whole snake, his stomach didn’t swell at all. It was as if it had turned into a spatial bag; the snake was inside his stomach, and he didn’t react at all.

After eating the snake’s carcass, Ran Wen even licked his hands, which were still stained with blood. The blood seemed to be a delicacy to him, making him reluctant to give it up.

The next moment, Ran Wen suddenly woke up. As soon as he woke up, he looked down at his hands. When he saw the blood on his hands and the snake carcass that had completely disappeared, he was shocked. Then he muttered, “What happened?”

Just then, he suddenly felt an itch on his chest. He pulled up his clothes and saw that the wound on his chest was disappearing rapidly. In a short while, the wound on his chest had completely disappeared without even a scab forming. Ran Wen was stunned. Then he immediately checked his other wounds and found that they had also disappeared. All his new and old wounds had disappeared.

Upon seeing this, Ran Wen was stunned. He murmured, “What’s going on?”

The next moment, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted. He then felt himself in a new space, where he saw the strange statue again. As he looked around warily, he heard the statue speak: “Those who believe in me will gain endless power.”

Ran Wen was stunned for a moment, then his expression changed. He looked at the statue warily, and the next moment, a golden light shot out from the statue and struck him. Ran Wen was frozen in place. His mind was filled with many things, which he couldn’t process for a while.

After a long while, he finally digested everything in his mind. Once digested, Ran Wen let out a long breath. He understood his current situation. The statue he saw was called the God of Gluttony, and he had now received the God of Gluttony’s blessing. The God of Gluttony had only one divinity: gluttony. He could eat anything with energy and then convert it into the energy he needed. For example, if he was injured, and he ate something high in energy, like a crystal, the crystal could be converted into energy in the shortest time to heal his injuries.

Ordinary cultivators might not be able to eat crystals, since crystals are stones that cultivators cannot directly digest. But the God of Gluttony was different. He could eat anything, and crystals, containing enormous energy, were his favorite. He could absorb all the energy from crystals, and this absorbed energy could be converted into any kind of energy within his body, such as spiritual energy, healing energy, martial arts techniques, or a sense of the laws.

Cultivators need energy to do anything, and this God of Gluttony can convert the energy they eat into any kind of energy. In other words, as long as Ran Wen keeps eating, his strength will increase by leaps and bounds, especially with foods that contain a lot of energy, his strength will improve even faster. This made Ran Wen overjoyed.
