Chapter 15917. The Courtyard

For stewards like these, their cultivation level in this lifetime is probably limited to this point. Therefore, for them, working here now is merely earning enough to survive; naturally, they have no enthusiasm.

Chen Feng slightly raised his head, looking at the two men, casually raising his hand in a cupped-fist salute, and then said, “Greetings, stewards. I am Chen Feng. I just broke through to the Qi level yesterday and have comprehended the Mist Qi. I have come to report this.”

Upon hearing Chen Feng’s words, the two men were taken aback, their expressions changing immediately. They quickly stood up, clasped their fists at Chen Feng, and one of them said, “Greetings, Junior Brother Chen. We will register you immediately.” One of them immediately sat down to register Chen Feng, while the other simply walked out of the room. Chen Feng didn’t pay any attention, simply standing there quietly.

A few moments later, footsteps sounded outside, and two people entered. One was the same person who had been in the room earlier, while the other was a cultivator who appeared to be in his forties. However, this person’s strength was significantly greater than the two in the room, seemingly reaching the Throne level. He was likely one of the managing elders here; judging by his strength, he must have been an inner disciple before becoming a managing elder. As soon as

the elder entered the room, he sized up Chen Feng and then asked, “You’ve condensed a mist aura?”

Chen Feng nodded and cupped his hands in greeting to the elder, saying, “Yes, Elder.”

The elder didn’t seem to care about Chen Feng’s attitude and instead said, “Let’s see it.”

Chen Feng nodded, and the next moment, he was completely enveloped in a cloud of mist, which kept changing shape.

The elder’s eyes lit up at Chen Feng’s appearance, and he laughed heartily, “Good, hahaha, excellent!” He then said to the steward who had led him there, “Go and arrange for him to have a separate courtyard. Adjust his monthly allowance as well, making it the same as for a key disciple.”

The steward acknowledged, and the elder then looked at Chen Feng and said, “From today onwards, you are a key disciple being groomed by the outer sect. Your monthly allowance will increase. Also, if you have any questions about cultivation, you can go to the Transmission Hall and consult the elders there.”

Chen Feng responded, and the steward nodded, turning and leaving. There were quite a few key disciples being groomed by the outer sect; now it was up to Chen Feng. If he could reach the Throne level within ten years, he could enter the inner sect. If he couldn’t reach the Throne level within ten years, he would only be a steward.

After the elder in charge left, the previous manager immediately said to Chen Feng, “Junior brother, please come with me. I’ll show you your new house.” Chen Feng nodded and followed the manager out.

The two quickly left the small building and then flew down the mountain. Before they even reached the bottom, halfway down the mountain, they saw many courtyards. These courtyards weren’t very large; each one seemed to be at most three hundred square meters. Half of the courtyard was a house, and the other half was a small courtyard. These small courtyards weren’t big, but they were all protected by defensive formations, each a protective shield enveloping the small courtyard.

Some courtyards lacked protective shields. The steward explained to Chen Feng, “Those courtyards without shields are uninhabited. They have built-in defensive arrays; once someone lives inside, the arrays activate. Those without activated arrays are uninhabited. You can choose any one.”

Chen Feng nodded, glanced around, and pointed to a courtyard, saying, “That one will do.” Chen Feng wasn’t particularly picky about the courtyards. The locations were all fairly similar, though the spiritual energy concentration was higher in those areas. However, all the courtyards were on a similar level, so the concentration was roughly the same. Chen Feng randomly chose one. The steward

nodded, and he and Chen Feng landed in front of the courtyard. He then flipped his hand, producing an iron plaque, which he gave to Chen Feng, saying, “This iron plaque is the courtyard’s controller. Input a wisp of spiritual energy into it, then use this plaque to activate the courtyard’s defensive array. The courtyard will then be yours.”

Chen Feng took the iron plaque and immediately channeled a wisp of spiritual energy into it. He then sensed the control array within the plaque and activated it with his spiritual energy. In the next moment, a protective shield appeared, covering the courtyard. This shield was quite unique; one could see outwards from the inside, but from the outside inwards, everything was blurry and unclear. This was to protect the disciples’ privacy and prevent them from seeing what was happening inside the courtyard.

Once Chen Feng finished, the manager said, “Junior Brother, if you need anything, you can come to the management office to find me. I’ll be leaving now.” Chen Feng nodded, and the manager clasped his hands in a fist salute before turning and leaving. Although he felt Chen Feng was somewhat arrogant, he wasn’t angry. Chen Feng was likely to become an inner disciple soon, and an inner disciple’s status was higher than his. If he offended Chen Feng now, Chen Feng might cause him trouble later. He was counting on this job to support himself, so he wouldn’t be angry because of Chen Feng’s attitude.

Chen Feng watched the disciple leave before entering the courtyard. The courtyard wasn’t large, with a bluestone floor and stone tables and benches. He then walked towards the house. It consisted of three main rooms and two side rooms. The side rooms were small and could be used as guest rooms, dining rooms, or storage rooms. The three main rooms included a living room, a bedroom, and a meditation room. The house was larger than Chen Feng’s original house.

Chen Feng was quite satisfied with the place. The house was furnished, and he could move in with his own belongings. After looking around, he left the courtyard and went straight back to his room. Once there, he packed all his things into his spatial storage, including the statue. He also used magic to repair the large hole in the wall where the cabinet holding the statue had been hidden. Then he went to the management office. His room was provided by the sect, and while he had the right to use it, the ownership belonged to the sect. This meant that if he wanted to move out of the room, he had to report to the sect so that they could arrange for another disciple to move in. The same applied to his current courtyard. As long as he was alive or hadn’t moved out, the courtyard would remain his. However, if he died or was no longer an outer disciple and moved out, he would have to return the courtyard to the sect.

Chen Feng went to the management office and reported the situation in the room. He then returned to the courtyard. Upon arriving, he first hid the statue in the meditation room and then placed some of his personal belongings there, finally letting out a sigh of relief.

He then returned to the meditation room and moved the cabinet behind it. There was a hole in the wall behind the cabinet, and the statue was placed inside. This time, he didn’t make a large hole; it was only slightly larger than the statue, making it more concealed. He then knelt before the statue, and in the next moment, he entered the space again. The statue still asked him what he wanted, and Chen Feng said he still wanted to improve his talent. The statue agreed.

When he regained consciousness, that burning sensation surged through his body again. Chen Feng endured it, and some black substance appeared on his body again, though less than the previous two times. His cultivation speed also increased.

In the following days, Chen Feng continued his daily morning cultivation routine, venturing outside with his usual arrogant demeanor. However, this time, few in the outer sect dared to provoke him. Chen Feng improved daily, stabilizing his realm in just five days. His cultivation progressed rapidly, leaving the outer sect disciples bewildered. They were all curious: why had Chen Feng become so powerful? He was known for his slow cultivation, but now he had reached the Qi level and stabilized his realm. When did his cultivation speed become so fast? Wasn’t his talent lacking? When did it become so exceptional?

Rumors about Chen Feng quickly spread throughout the outer sect. Unbeknownst to Chen Feng, a pair of venomous eyes were watching him intently. The owner of those eyes was none other than Zhang Cheng.

Zhang Cheng’s injuries had healed, but he harbored a deep hatred for Chen Feng. The last time Chen Feng defeated him, he was utterly humiliated, his face swollen like a pig’s head. He now had a nickname in the outer sect: “Pig-Head Cheng,” and he felt too ashamed to even go out.

If before Zhang Cheng was merely jealous of Chen Feng and only wanted to teach him a lesson, now he hated him and wanted to kill him. However, he knew his current strength was inferior to Chen Feng’s, so he had no way to seek revenge. He could only wait for an opportunity while simultaneously improving his own strength. Chen Feng,

on the other hand, paid no attention to Zhang Cheng’s affairs. His cultivation was progressing rapidly, and he was completely immersed in this feeling. He discovered that the gods were giving him far too much; he only needed to act arrogantly and go out for a stroll every day, and the gods would enhance his talent, making his cultivation speed even faster. Moreover, this improvement seemed endless, which excited Chen Feng greatly, and he cultivated even more diligently.

However, human desires are never satisfied, and Chen Feng is no exception. Although his cultivation speed is currently very fast, he still wants to be even faster. To cultivate even faster, he needs to show his arrogance to more people. But since he can’t just wander around aimlessly, there’s only one way for him to show his arrogance to others: doing quests. It just so happens that he hasn’t done any quests for a while, so he wants to do one, preferably in a crowded place, so that more people can see his arrogance.
