Chapter 15860 Inner Demons

Zhao Hai knew everything that had happened in the Blood Slaughter Sect, including what Wen Wenhai had said to the sect members. He was perfectly aware that Wen Wenhai was right. He didn’t know what would happen after his ascension, but one thing was certain: the Blood Slaughter Sect was extremely important to him. He didn’t know why, but he had this feeling, and he trusted it because it had never been wrong. Therefore, he knew he had to strengthen the Blood Slaughter Sect; the stronger it was, the more beneficial it would be for him. So he didn’t object to Wen Wenhai’s actions.

Furthermore, there was something Zhao Hai hadn’t told Wen Wenhai: initially, he had seen some white hair at the Nine Yang Immortal Palace. This white hair was entwined around some of the genius disciples of the Nine Yang Immortal Palace and other sects. However, after they went to war with the Nine Yang Immortal Palace, the white hair disappeared. Later, when they fought against other sects, the white hair on the disciples of those other sects also disappeared.

This wasn’t the end of it. When the people from Hell’s Gate were dealing with them, he also saw some white hair on those members of Hell’s Gate. However, when they fought against Hell’s Gate, that white hair disappeared. This was all too strange. Zhao Hai really didn’t know what was going on. However, he had a feeling that once he ascended, all these mysteries would be solved.

But he needed to have the ability to protect himself before ascending. Although he didn’t know under what circumstances he would have the ability to protect himself, he could only try his best to become stronger.

Although he didn’t know the origin of the white hair, he knew its formidable power. A single strand of white hair had saved his life years ago when he was nearly strangled by spatial forces. Without that white hair, he would have been dead. A single white hair could withstand the crushing power of spatial forces, and it was even a broken strand! One could imagine how strong the owner of that white hair was. Even now, Zhao Hai couldn’t guarantee that a single hair of his could withstand the crushing power of spatial forces. He simply couldn’t. Because he couldn’t, he was even more certain that the owner of the white hair was incredibly powerful, at least stronger than himself.

But what was even more terrifying was that the owner of the white hair seemed to be imprisoned. Through the white hair, Zhao Hai could see some blurry images; the owner seemed to be locked in a cage-like place. How could someone so powerful be safe if locked in a cage? This is precisely why Zhao Hai hasn’t been in a hurry to ascend. He wants to first improve his strength, at least to the point where he’s stronger than his white-haired master.

Having reached his level, further improvement isn’t through cultivation, but through comprehension. He must comprehend his own laws, making them even more powerful, to have any chance of surpassing his white-haired master.

Therefore, Zhao Hai isn’t in a rush. He’s simultaneously improving his own strength and that of his disciples. He’s aware of what the Blood Slaughter Sect has been doing lately. He doesn’t know if it’s just his imagination, but he’s noticed that the more arrays and runes the Blood Slaughter Sect disciples use, the greater the impact on him. Like this time, when Zhang Hongliang and his group created those vengeful ghosts and otherworldly spirits, then transformed them into Soul-Nourishing Pearls and placed them in the Real Illusion, his strength increased somewhat. And when Elder Niu and his group created the weapon-refining software, his strength increased again. His strength had increased slightly, but not by much. Zhao Hai hadn’t initially noticed this; he only felt that his strength had increased twice, but he didn’t know why. Later, after carefully recalling the time of his strength increase, calculating the time it took for the Soul-Nourishing Pearl to enter the Real Illusionary Realm, and adding the software’s completion time, he realized that his strength increase might be related to this matter. If his strength increase was indeed related to this matter, then that would be very interesting. Therefore, Zhao Hai planned to investigate further to see what was going on.

However, Zhao Hai had also been paying attention to another matter: Ding Chunming’s seclusion. Ding Chunming was going into seclusion to try and break through to the Kingdom-level realm. Zhao Hai was very clear about Ding Chunming’s talent. It was fine before he became a Kingdom-level expert, but if he did, his strength would be among the strongest in the Kingdom-level world. Therefore, Zhao Hai attached great importance to this matter.

Although Zhao Hai wasn’t worried about those who joined the Blood Slaughter Sect later betraying him, people still had their degrees of closeness and distance. Ding Chunming and the others had followed him for many years and were his true confidants. Naturally, he hoped that Ding Chunming and his group would become stronger. Only when Ding Chunming and his group became stronger could they keep the later members in check. Otherwise, some of the later members would always be resentful.

Ding Chunming was indeed in seclusion at this time, and he was truly contemplating his insights. He had been studying the Law of Power. Previously, he had only thought about how to increase his own power, but now he understood that power wasn’t necessarily better the stronger it was. How to control one’s power optimally, and how to convert the enemy’s power into one’s own, were crucial.

Ding Chunming was now comprehending power—all kinds of power—and the more he comprehended, the more he felt that the Way of Power was profound and complex. He realized that he had previously underestimated power.

For a moment, Ding Chunming was lost in confusion. He originally thought he was doing an elementary school problem, but who would have thought that as he continued to solve it, he would realize that what he was doing was not an elementary school problem at all, but actually advanced mathematics. This left him confused and unsure of where to begin.

Ding Chunming sat there, drenched in sweat, his brows furrowed, his face flushed, seemingly in excruciating pain. Even more so, faint white smoke began to rise from his body, as if he were about to burst into flames.

Zhao Hai’s expression changed drastically upon seeing this. He knew perfectly well what was wrong with Ding Chunming; he was about to suffer a qi deviation. Although the Blood Slaughter Sect had a special cultivation method for demonic possession, preventing the formation of demonic possessions, Ding Chunming’s demonic possession was clearly generated during cultivation. He was now trapped within it, unable to circulate his demonic possession techniques. If he couldn’t escape this demonic possession, he would be in grave danger. The stronger a person, the more powerful their demonic possessions. Once a person reached a certain level, the activation of their demonic possessions would become even more dangerous.

Inner demons are things that come without a trace and go without a trace. Sometimes you will fall into their trap without even realizing it. That is why all the disciples of the Blood Slaughter Sect have a reminder device. This reminder device will remind the disciples of the Blood Slaughter Sect every few days that they must practice the Inner Demon Technique once. Whether or not they have an inner demon, they must practice the Inner Demon Technique once. Because sometimes, even if you have an inner demon, you will not realize it yourself. Therefore, the Inner Demon Technique must be practiced regularly.

Ding Chunming and his companions were required to regularly cultivate the Inner Demon Technique, but this time was different. Ding Chunming was currently in seclusion, deeply studying the cultivation method, and had no time to practice the Inner Demon Technique. Furthermore, this time the Inner Demon appeared extremely suddenly; Ding Chunming had no time to react before being directly affected. The Inner Demon had now ignited the demonic fire within Ding Chunming’s heart. Once this demonic fire erupted, Ding Chunming would be finished. This demonic fire burned from the inside out, completely incinerating him, not only destroying his physical body but also his soul.

It could be said that Ding Chunming was facing the greatest crisis since he began cultivating. If he couldn’t overcome this crisis, he would truly be finished.

Zhao Hai frowned as he looked at Ding Chunming’s condition, utterly helpless. He knew perfectly well that if he tried to call Ding Chunming’s name now, Ding Chunming would die instantly, or even the slightest provocation would kill him. The demonic fire within him would burn him to death. Therefore, Zhao Hai was truly powerless to help.

Because of this, Zhao Hai could only watch anxiously. He had prepared himself for the worst. If things truly became hopeless, he would forcefully intervene to preserve Ding Chunming’s soul. At worst, Ding Chunming would live in the body formed from the life seed, even though it would affect his strength. It was better than death. Zhao Hai had prepared for the worst.

Ding Chunming was indeed trapped in his inner demons, but he didn’t realize that he was simply obsessing over the smallest details. He was preoccupied with what the Law of Power he cultivated truly was. He used to think it was simple, but now it was different. He felt his understanding of the Law of Power was far from complete; it was like a vast ocean, and his comprehension was merely a grain of sand on its shore. This mindset was what trapped him, preventing him from escaping.

“What is the Law of Power? What is it? What was the Law of Power I cultivated before? Was that really the Law of Power? No, it wasn’t the Law of Power at all.”

This question echoed in Ding Chunming’s mind. The white smoke around him grew thicker, as if his body was burning, the flames about to burst through his skin, turning him into a human torch.

Upon seeing this, Zhao Hai frowned even more deeply. He slowly raised his hand, ready to make his move. The best way to save Ding Chunming was to kill him outright, interrupting his comprehension of the cultivation technique. Inner demons are useless against a dead man, and in this way, Zhao Hai could preserve Ding Chunming’s soul.
