Chapter 15858 The Vengeful Ghost

Ghost As for Bai Yan and the others dealing with those sects, there’s not much to say. They had already made thorough preparations, making the task much easier. However, things were surprisingly progressing quickly with the two tasks the Divine Mechanism Hall needed to complete.

Originally, Wen Yuming thought the software for crafting magical artifacts would be finished first, as it wasn’t difficult and should be completed quickly. But to Wen Yuming’s surprise, the vengeful ghost was the first thing to be finished, while the software was still unfinished.

When Wen Yuming heard Zhang Hongliang say that the vengeful ghost had been created, he was genuinely astonished. He immediately went to Zhang Hongliang’s laboratory. Upon entering, he saw a vengeful ghost, currently imprisoned in a magic array, appearing quite docile. Although it looked

docile, it was indeed a vengeful ghost. This ghost was entirely black, with blood-red eyes, a chilling aura emanating from it, and its hands were like sharp claws.

Wen Yuming hurried over and carefully examined the vengeful ghost. After a while, he finally spoke, “It is indeed a vengeful ghost. I really didn’t expect it to be so.”

Zhang Hongliang smiled slightly and said, “It is indeed a vengeful ghost. I fused five soul flames together and then fused them with a mutated magic array. I didn’t expect that this mutated law would be so suitable for soul flames. After they were fused, it already had a bit of a vengeful ghost’s shadow. Then I let it absorb yin energy. I originally thought it would take a long time for it to become a vengeful ghost, but I didn’t expect it to absorb yin energy so quickly. It quickly became a vengeful ghost, and now it can still absorb yin energy, but it doesn’t need to, so I didn’t…” “We’ve been letting him absorb yin energy, and now we need to conduct other experiments.”

Upon hearing this, Wen Yuming immediately asked, “What experiments are you conducting?”

Zhang Hongliang replied, “I’ve discovered that this vengeful ghost can indeed mutate; it can transform into other things. This is quite strange, so I want to test it and see what other changes it can undergo.”

Wen Yuming nodded and then said, “Okay, then let’s conduct the experiments as soon as possible. By the way, can this kind of vengeful ghost be placed in a real illusion?”

Zhang Hongliang said in a deep voice, “We haven’t conducted any experiments in that area yet.”

Wen Yuming nodded and said, “Alright, then you can continue your experiments. I’ll go check on Old Niu.” Zhang Hongliang nodded, and Wen Yuming left immediately.

Wen Yuming quickly arrived at Elder Niu’s laboratory. People of their status all had their own private laboratories, and they weren’t alone in them. Their first laboratory was essentially a small, independently operating organization with quite a few people inside. For example, Zhang Hongliang’s laboratory, although called a laboratory, actually had over a hundred direct subordinates working for him. And these were just his direct subordinates; he also had to manage other people. So, the number of people truly under Zhang Hongliang’s supervision in his laboratory was probably no less than a thousand. Elder Niu’s laboratory

was no smaller than Zhang Hongliang’s. When Wen Yuming arrived at Elder Niu’s laboratory, everyone was busy, but everything was relatively well-organized.

Elder Niu also saw Wen Yuming and immediately came forward, bowing and saying, “Hall Master.”

Wen Yuming nodded and asked, “How’s the progress?”

Elder Niu smiled wryly and said, “The software was completed a long time ago, but it’s not usable yet because we’re still refining the data on magical artifacts within the software. For example, the weight of a magical artifact, its shape, the type of magic array to use, the number of magic arrays that can be added, which magic arrays can be replaced, and what materials are needed after replacing the magic array. All of these need to be added to the software; missing even one will prevent us from designing magical artifacts. We’ve been busy with this for days. You know, there are so many different kinds of magical artifacts in our sect. Inputting all the data of these artifacts into the software is not something that can be done in a day or two, and we need more manpower, the more the better.”

Hearing Elder Niu’s words, Wen Yuming couldn’t help but smile and say, “So that’s why. That’s simple. When I get back, I’ll immediately allocate manpower and transfer all the less busy people in the hall to you. We must complete this software as soon as possible. You just need to coordinate.”

Elder Niu quickly agreed, and Wen Yuming turned and left. He then immediately allocated a large number of people to help Elder Niu. Of course, those people didn’t need to work in Elder Niu’s laboratory; otherwise, his laboratory wouldn’t be able to accommodate so many people. He only needed to assign the tasks to them and tell them how to do it. Then, those people could go back to their own rooms to do this. This task wasn’t actually difficult; it was just that the quantity was relatively large, so more manpower was needed.

Five days passed in the blink of an eye. Everything was going smoothly for Bai Yan and his team; they had already begun their third operation. Zhang Hongliang’s progress was also excellent. He discovered that the vengeful spirits produced using the mutation law possessed a unique energy: the ability to learn. This learning wasn’t literal; rather, these vengeful spirits could learn another law of power, but only one at a time. After learning this new law, the spirit’s attack power would lean towards that newly learned law, and its attack strength would increase.

Zhang Hongliang was extremely excited about this. They had now reached the final stage of their experiment: seeing if they could place these vengeful spirits into the real illusion.

There’s a problem here: are these vengeful spirits considered living beings? You could say they aren’t, since they have souls, albeit incomplete ones. But you could also say they are living beings. To be precise, they’re a different kind of undead race—a race without souls, possessing only the instinct for battle. So, you could call them living beings.

However, living beings can’t be placed in the Real Illusion, so directly introducing these vengeful spirits into it is impossible. This is giving Zhang Hongliang a headache. If these vengeful spirits can’t be placed in the Real Illusion, then they’ll have to keep creating them themselves, which is a huge waste of time, and Zhang Hongliang is unwilling to do that.

It was precisely for this reason that Zhang Hongliang began to conduct experiments in this area. After several experiments, he actually found a way: first, he would refine these vengeful spirits into a magical artifact. However, this artifact could only be considered a container, not a true artifact. In other words, it was like a bottle containing vengeful spirits, but the bottle itself couldn’t control the spirits. However, once the spirits were placed inside, the Real Illusion would recognize the bottle as an inanimate object and allow it to be placed within the Real Illusion.

After discovering this, Zhang Hongliang and his team began further experiments. Simply putting the spirits inside wouldn’t work, so they needed a better method. Finally, they came up with a solution: they used Soul-Nourishing Wood to create a Soul-Nourishing Bead. This bead could store vengeful spirits within it, or even refine them directly into the bead, making them one with it. This not only nourished the spirits inside but also allowed them to place the bead directly into the Real Illusion—a double benefit.

Zhang Hongliang and his group had tried many things to contain vengeful spirits before. Although placing the spirit inside a magical artifact could directly input it into the real illusion and turn it into a rune, when the rune was deactivated and the artifact was restored, the spirit inside would disappear. Even if the spirit didn’t disappear, it seemed to have suffered a huge blow, with wounds on its body—the kind of wounds that couldn’t heal, which was very dangerous.

Because of this, after many experiments, Zhang Hongliang and his group created the Soul-Nourishing Bead. A Soul-Nourishing Bead is only the size of a longan, but it can contain a vengeful spirit. Moreover, after the Soul-Nourishing Bead is inputted into the real illusion and turns into a rune, if you take it out and crush it, the vengeful spirit inside will appear without any injury. It’s exactly as it was when you put it in—absolutely no problem. Therefore, Zhang Hongliang and his group ultimately chose the Soul-Nourishing Bead.

This gave them an endless supply of vengeful spirits, each with different attributes. They could have any kind of spirit they wanted; the variety was complete. Zhang Hongliang and his group were constantly experimenting, continuously creating vengeful spirits with different attributes. After all, the Blood Slaughter Sect had too many laws; when mutated laws merged with those laws, they would create vengeful spirits with new attributes, resulting in a vast array of vengeful spirits.

What truly surprised Zhang Hongliang and his group was that, with the enhancement of mutated laws, some special energies could also create vengeful spirits, such as Buddhist-powered vengeful spirits. These were originally two opposing forces, yet they could be combined to create a vengeful spirit.

For example, even a strange fire like the True Fire of the Sun, which has a strong restraining effect on ghosts, can actually turn into a vengeful ghost. This is quite astonishing. Zhang Hongliang and his group had never initially thought of using these energies to create vengeful ghosts. It was only after a disciple accidentally conducted an experiment that they created one. The reason they were able to create such a vengeful ghost with opposing attributes was due to the blessing of the Mutation Law. This Mutation Law actually had such an ability, which was something Zhang Hongliang and his group had not expected. But in any case, their experiment was successful, and they created all sorts of vengeful ghosts with different attributes. However, Zhang Hongliang eventually distinguished these vengeful ghosts. They no longer called the vengeful ghosts created with opposing attributes “vengeful ghosts,” but rather “different ghosts,” meaning ghosts with special attributes. Although this name is very straightforward, it distinguishes vengeful ghosts from different ghosts. Zhang Hongliang did this for a reason.
