1505. Chapter 1499 Competitors (Two Chapters Combined)

Time flew by.

A week later.

Hotel suite.

“Xunxun.”

Little Xunbao lay on the sofa, looking at the ceiling, and sighed heavily.

It was eliminated in the first round of the ice sculpture competition.

This was its third ice sculpture competition in recent times, and it hadn’t made it to the next round even once.

Qiao Sang lay beside it, looking at the ceiling, and also sighed:

“Why is there still no news about the Ice Crystal Fruit?”

“Ice Saint.”

Lu Bao called out considerately, indicating that it wasn’t in a hurry.

Qiao Sang was about to say something

when suddenly, a refreshing fragrance wafted into its nostrils, and an inexplicable power swept through its heart like a spring breeze. The slight anxiety in its heart instantly disappeared, leaving it feeling calm and peaceful, and its mood became exceptionally pleasant. Everything was so beautiful.

“It’s not in a hurry.” Qiao Sang sat up, feeling relaxed and comfortable. “Anyway, we have plenty of time.”

“Xunxun~”

Little Xunbao also floated up.

It called out with a good attitude, indicating that it had only participated in this kind of competition three times, and it was sure it could pass the preliminaries next time.

After saying that, she picked up her phone, preparing to re-register for the upcoming ice sculpture competition.

Three minutes later, the familiar feeling of irritability returned.

“Xunxun.”

Little Xunbao lay on the sofa, looking at the ceiling, and sighed heavily.

What was the point of participating in the ice sculpture competition again? It simply couldn’t compete with others.

Qiao Sang lay next to Little Xunbao, about to sigh as well, when suddenly, a familiar yet unfamiliar fragrance wafted into her nostrils. She keenly sensed something was wrong, sat up abruptly, and looked at Xia Lala, who was “sunbathing” next to Ya Bao, asking,

“Has the scent on you changed?”

“Xia Xia.”

Xia Lala was startled at first, then realized something and called out, indicating that it had just been trying to use a new skill.

Qiao Sang’s eyes lit up, and she quickly asked,

“You sensed a new skill again?”

She didn’t have a contract with Xia Bao, so she couldn’t see the relevant data in the Beast Taming Codex, and Xia Bao couldn’t use the skill awakened by evolution with 100% certainty from the start.

Since its last evolution, it had been trying to unleash its awakened skills through constant sensing and training.

It remembered that Xia Bao only gained the Venom skill in its battle form and had already successfully used four skills;

it didn’t expect another one now. For a pet, awakening skills was a bit too many.

You see, Ya Bao and the others basically awakened three skills per stage of evolution.

“Xia Xia.”

Xia Lala shook its head and called out, indicating that this skill wasn’t sensed, but learned.

Not awakened, but learned on its own? Qiao Sang was stunned:

“How did you learn it? Where did you learn the skill from?”

“Xia Xia.”

Xia Lala called out, indicating that it had some memories after its evolution and learned it from inherited memories.

“Qing Qing.”

Skills can be learned from inherited memories?

Qing Bao tried hard to recall the contents of the inherited memories, but found nothing about how to learn skills.

Ting Bao stood thoughtfully to the side.

Qiao Sang immediately became interested and asked, “You have memories about how to learn skills?”

“Xia Xia.”

Xia Lala nodded.

“Qingbao, Tingbao, do you have any?” Qiao Sang turned and asked.

“Qingqing.”

Qingbao shook its head.

“Tingting.”

Tingbao thought for a moment, then called out, indicating that the content of the memory inheritance was different at each stage, and perhaps it could awaken memories about how to learn skills in its next evolution.

“Qingqing.”

Why did you say all the good things? Qingbao glanced at Tingbao, then nodded in agreement, indicating that it felt it should be the same.

As soon as it finished speaking, Michaela came in from the room with milk and asked,

“Xiabao learned a new skill through memory inheritance?”

Qiao Sang hummed in agreement and said with emotion, “I never thought that you could learn skills from memory inheritance. Qingbao and Tingbao have never had this before.”

Michaela smiled and said, “Different races leave different content in their memory inheritance. Races that love to play leave behind memories of playing, while races that want to become stronger leave behind some content about how to learn skills.”

“Qingqing.”

Qingbao frowned.

“Wait a minute,” it thought. “It feels like everyone in its race wants to become stronger, that’s why

you think you know so much.” Tingbao closed its eyes, unwilling to listen to this annoying human.

Qiao Sang was taken aback. “So the Sharara race wants to become stronger?”

She had always thought the Sharara race was easygoing, loved nature, and didn’t like things like fighting.

Michaela pondered and said,

“The Sharara is a mythical beast, there might only be one from ancient times to the present, so the content of its inherited memories is definitely richer than that of other races’ pets. As long as you’ve experienced it, you should be able to inherit some of everything.”

“Qingqing.”

Qingbao showed an “I see” expression.

It knew that everyone in its race wanted to become stronger. It was impossible for the seventh brother to inherit skills related to learning skills while it couldn’t.

Upon hearing this, Qiao Sang’s first reaction was surprise, but then she thought of something and said with some worry,

“If there’s too much content inherited in terms of memories, will the personality change a lot later?”

She thought of Qingbao, and then she thought of Tingbao.

Michaela paused for a moment, then said, “Possibly, but Sharara has probably always been the same one, so even if a lot of memories are passed down, her personality won’t change much.”

“That’s good.” Josang breathed a sigh of relief.

“What skill did Xia Bao learn this time?” Michaela asked.

Xia Lala opened her mouth, about to answer, when Qiao Sang spoke first:

“It should be the Scent of Carefree.”

The Scent of Carefree is a mid-tier Grass-type skill that allows the target to temporarily clear their mind of troubling matters, becoming carefree. It’s somewhat similar to Lu Bao’s Healing Sound Wave, but the former’s power is gentler, preventing the target from forcibly becoming peaceful and potentially causing double the anger afterward.

If the target is resistant or in a state of excitement or high energy, it won’t have any effect.

In short, it’s useless in battle.

“Xia Xia.”

Sharara nodded and meowed, indicating that this was the skill.

Michaela exclaimed,

“Truly worthy of Sharara! Even the skills seen in the inherited memories are auxiliary skills that help everyone process their emotions.”

“Xiaxia,”

Sharara meowed shyly, indicating that it had seen some other skills, but only the “Carefree Fragrance” was simple, so it had only learned that one.

Hearing this, Qiao Sang seemed to remember something and instructed,

“Don’t spend time learning the other skills that appeared in the memories yet. Our most important task now is to train the ‘Flying Leaf Blade’ skill to the ultimate level.”

Only when the skill reaches the ultimate level can she confidently let Sharara evolve.

“Xiaxia,”

Sharara nodded obediently.

“Actually, learning other skills isn’t a problem,” Michaela disagreed, saying, “The more skills Xia Bao knows, the better we can know which skills Xia Bao is suitable to use in battle, and then focus on learning those.”

Josang said, “Xia Bao’s energy has already reached the late intermediate level. If it gets the Everstone, it could evolve at any time. I still want it to evolve in perfect condition as soon as possible. It’s not too late to learn other skills then.”

“Xia Xia.”

Sharala nodded and called out, indicating that it would listen to Josang.

Michaela didn’t understand and said,

“You don’t need to be in such a hurry. Your brain hasn’t broken through yet, and you haven’t awakened a new contract page. You can wait until you form a contract with Xia Bao before thinking about evolving it. That way, you’ll receive more feedback.”

“But it will definitely take a long time for my brain to break through,” Josang said. “I can’t delay Xia Bao because of my own slow progress.”

“Xia Xia!”

Sharala first showed a touched expression, and then quickly called out, indicating that it wasn’t afraid of being delayed.

Josang looked at it and said gently, “Just train at the current pace. Don’t think about anything else. I’ll develop its brain as soon as possible.”

“Xiaxia!”

Xia Lala nodded vigorously.

Michaela watched this scene and was about to interject when she suddenly heard something and looked out the French windows.

Josang and Ya Bao did the same.

A bird-like pet, about three meters tall and mostly ice-blue, wearing steel-like objects, flew leisurely between the buildings.

The virtual screen on the objects was playing an advertisement:

“Yi Yi, Yi Yi Yi Yi, Yi Yi Yi.”

Josang was used to this; 80% of the advertisements or news broadcast on the television screens in the pet country were broadcast by pets.

Michaela didn’t understand the language, but she could understand the images on the screen and asked,

“Is this going to be a cold resistance competition?”

On the virtual screen, the image, accompanied by subtitles, showed a white fox-like pet opening its mouth and shooting out a beam of extremely cold light at a brown bear-like pet in front of it.

The brown bear-like pet neither dodged nor flinched, letting the extreme cold light freeze its entire body.

Then, the sun and moon rotated in the background, changing from day to night and then back to day again, before the brown bear’s icy shell cracked open with a “crack.”

The brown bear-like pet smiled and gave a thumbs-up to the camera.

Qiao Sang hummed in agreement and helped translate:

“They said the last registration period is in three days, and they encourage everyone to sign up.”

The Frost Resistance Competition is the only competition in the Ice Kingdom that doesn’t allow ice-type pets. Participants can be humans or pets, but not ice-type pets.

All participants are frozen by ice-type pets using ice-type skills, and cannot use any skills to break the freeze. Whoever survives the frozen state the longest wins.

During the competition, participants will wear devices that detect vital signs in case of unforeseen circumstances.

This competition had been advertised beforehand.

No skill level is required; anyone who isn’t an ice-type pet can participate, so Qiao Sang had already registered Little Treasure Hunter.

“Did Little Treasure Hunter sign up?” Michaela asked.

“Xunxun~”

Little Treasure Hunter nodded.

It knew its Beastmaster had signed it up for the competition.

During the conversation, items flashed across the virtual screen, finally settling on a map.

Michaela looked at the map, seemed to realize something, and paused.

The map quickly disappeared, and the advertisement ended.

“Are these prizes for the Ice Resistance Competition?” Michaela realized and quickly asked.

Qiao Sang hummed in agreement and sighed, “I’ve checked all these things. Although most are ice-type materials, they’re only suitable for King-level pets at best. There’s nothing that Lu Bao needs.” “Was the

last prize shown a map of Qi Kingdom?” Michaela asked again.

“It seems to be a spot to enter Qi Kingdom,” Qiao Sang replied.

Qi Kingdom is one of the ten most mysterious countries on Tianyuan Star. These countries are either impossible to locate because of the skills of their pets, or they have extremely strict national management, making it difficult for internal information to leak out. Only a very small number of people and pets are allowed to enter each year. Qi Kingdom is the latter.

Anyone or any pet entering without permission will be thrown out, and may even lose all memories of their time in the Qi Kingdom, without exception.

Michaela pondered for a moment, then said,

“You’d better get your spot in the Qi Kingdom.”

“Why?” Qiao Sang asked.

“The Qi Kingdom has many rare pets and materials; things you don’t find elsewhere are very likely to be there,” Michaela said. “If you didn’t find the Ice Crystal Fruit in the Ice Kingdom, perhaps you can find it in the Qi Kingdom.”

Qiao Sang smiled wryly,

“But this is the prize for the Ice Resistance Competition, and there’s only one spot. It’s said that if a pet that has a contract with a Beastmaster gets this prize, only that pet can get the spot and go to the Qi Kingdom.”

The Ice Resistance Competition’s prize is somewhat special; she was curious when she registered Little Treasure Hunter, so she looked it up.

“Xunxun!”

Little Treasure Hunter made a promise, calling out, indicating that if it went to the Qi Kingdom and found the Ice Crystal Fruit, it would definitely bring it back!

“Qingqing,”

Qingbao rolled its eyes at it, calling out, indicating that this is the prize, and you haven’t won yet.

Little Treasure Hunter: “.”

Michaela looked at her and slowly said, “If a pet that has a contract with a Beastmaster wins the championship, only the pet can enter. But if the Beastmaster wins the championship, the contracted pet should be able to go with them.”

Qiao Sang was taken aback: “You want me to sign up too?”

Michaela nodded slightly: “The opportunity to enter the Qi Kingdom is rare; you should seize it if you have the chance.”

That makes sense. I’ve received many acts of kindness from Lu Bao, so enduring being frozen for a while shouldn’t be a problem. Thinking this, Qiao Sang took out her phone and said,

“I’ll sign up first, but I feel the chances of winning aren’t high.”

Saying this, she searched for the competition registration website and started registering.

“Xun Xun.”

Little Xun Bao looked at its Beastmaster, four words flashing through its mind:

competitor. (End of Chapter)
